REVIEW
Finding the equation of the
quadratic function given the
zeros
Example 1:
Find the equation of the quadratic
function with the zeros 3 and 5.

3+5 = 8 3(5) = 15
Change the sign Just copy

f(x) = a(x 2 ___x ___)

- 8 +15
Equation
f(x) = a(x 2 -8x+15)
Example 2:
Find the equation of the quadratic
function with the zeros -3 and 5.

-3+5 = 2 (-3)(5)=-15
Change the sign Just copy

f(x) = a(x 2 ___x ___)

- 2 -15
Equation
f(x) = a(x 2 -2x-15)
Example 3:
Find the equation of the quadratic
function with the zeros 3 and -5.

3+(-5) = -2 (3)(-5)=-15
Change the sign Just copy

f(x) = a(x 2 ___x ___)

2 -15
Equation
f(x) = a(x 2 +2x-15)
Example 4:
Find the equation of the quadratic
function with the zeros -3 and -5.
(-3)+(-5) = -8 (-3)(-5)=15
Change the sign Just copy

f(x) = a(x 2 ___x ___)

+8 +15
Equation
f(x) = a(x 2 +8x+15)
Finding the equation of the
quadratic function given the
graph

Finding the equation of the
quadratic function given the
table of values
Given the table of values, find the quadratic function.

A. y = x2 C. y = x2 + 2 y 3 2 3
B. y = x2 – 3 D. y = x2 + 4 x -1 0 1
A. y = x2 B. y = x -3
2 C. y = x +2

2 = -3 2=2
Solving Word Problems
Example 1:
A student drops a pen from the top of BEFF building that is 200 feet
tall. What is the height of the pen 2 seconds after it was dropped? The
situation is modeled by the quadratic function h = -16t2 + 200 where t
is the time in seconds, and h is the height in feet.

Solution:

h = -16t2 + 200
h = -16(4) + 200
h = -64 + 200
h =136

The height of the pen 2 seconds after it was dropped is 136 ft

1. Find a quadratic function 3. Given the table of values,
whose zeros is -1 and 4. find the quadratic function.
A. y = x2 C. y = x2 + 2 y 2 5 10
2. Find the quadratic function B. y = x2 + 1 D. y = x2 + 3 x 1 2 3
of the given graph 4. Daniel drops a pen from the top of
BEFF building that is 100 feet tall. What
is the height of the pen 5 seconds after it
was dropped? The situation is modeled by
the quadratic function h = -16t2 + 100
where t is the time in seconds, and h is
the height in feet.
