Recorded live in concert at various venues in Norway.

The third album from these two excellent musicians was recorded live at various
European venues, although the high level of musicianship, focus on detail and high
recording quality could easily lead you to think it would be a meticulously
assembled studio recording. With Rest At Worlds End the duo continue their
adventurous explorations of abstract grooves and atmospheric moods. But don't
expect any live versions of previous studio tracks, these are all brand new tracks,
11 on the CD and 18 on the limited double LP edition.
Drummer and composer Thomas Stronen is a regular member of Food, Maria Kannegaard
Trio and Parish, his quartet with the superb Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson.

"Rest At Worlds End" is a live album, though it's not exactly dominated by the roar
of wild, cheering throngs. Instead, it's largely a quiet effort. The few bursts of
noise, like "Creak" and album opener "Stream", are aggressive without being
assaultive; Humcrush's brand of crunch is warm and human. The quietest moments of
all, like the title track and "Audio Hydraulic", spread the warmth in a manner
reminiscent of early 70s Tangerine Dream, before they got sequencer-happy and back
when they were still drifting, in Lester Bang's words, "like silt seeping on the
ocean floor". When the pair kick into gear, their funk is ascetic and cybernetic,
emulating the crisp Swiss perfection of Nik Bartsch's Ronin. Ultimately, Humcrush
make unique and uncannily compelling music.
The Wire (UK)
Norwegians Thomas Stronen and Stale Storlokken are here to give us a glimpse into
their world of free form, experimental electronic jazz. Have a good listen to this
incredible piece of work and don't forget that every tune was recorded live at
numerous shows throughout Europe. Impressive and thoroughly enjoyable.
BPM (US)
Humcrush inhabit the corner of ambient jazz that would appeal to Burial and Epic45
fans alike.
The Word (UK)
Jazzthetik (DE)
Power to the people and the beats!
File under: lustvoll,
geistreich, mit viel Soul. Platte des Monats.
