channeled platform for attaching the brooch: Bottom layer: Use 8' of thread to string 4C, leaving a 6" tail. Tie a knot to form a tight circle. Work right-angle weave using C in each unit to form a rectangle 5 units wide and 9 rows long. Weave through beads to exit from the right side bead of the second unit from the left in Row 1. Middle layer: Use the side beads of each unit in the seventh through second rows to work 6 rows of right-angle weave that will sit perpendicular to the bottom layer. Exit from the top C of the final unit added over the bottom layers Row 2 (Fig. 1red dot).

Roll Row 1 so its perpendicular to the bottom layer. String 1C and pass into the side bead of the middle layers Row 6. String 1C and pass back through the last top C exited in this layer (Fig. 2). Continue working rightangle weave, adding 1C per stitch, closing up and forming a top layer (Fig. 3). Note: Roll Row 9 as with Row 1 to complete the layer. The strip is now 7 rows long, 5 units wide, and 1 cubic unit deep. Sides: Without adding beads, work a right-angle-weave thread path down the long edges to secure the layering. Exit 2 units in from the end, out of the bottom C (Fig. 4).

String 1C and pass through the side bead of the end unit in the next row; repeat twice. Continue working in peyote stitch to form a tab 7C wide and 9 rows long (Fig. 5). Fold the tab so it touches the top layer and the beads interlock. Zip these beads together to form a channel. Secure the thread and trim. Note: This channel is off-center, but the brooch will be centered when hung. Inner pearl channel: Start a new 2' thread that exits the bottom C of the first

Continue working odd-count peyote stitch to form a tab 9C wide and 9 rows long (Fig. 6). Fold the tab so the beads of Row 9 interlock with the nearest beads in the top layer; zip these beads together to form a tube (Fig. 7). Weave through beads to exit from the second C in Row 5. Repeat the inner and outer pearl channels on the other end of the rectangle. Pin riser: Start a new 2' thread that exits from the first side bead of the second unit in the top layer. beads of the second unit of each row. Weave through beads to form another perpendicular right-angle-weave row that connects the first side bead of the third unit of each top-layer row. Exit from the top C of the final unit. Work right-angle weave to connect the 2 rows just added (Fig. 9). Note: This riser helps the pin sit straight while hanging on the necklace.
2) PEARLS. Center a needle on 8' of thread, doubling the thread. String a tension bead, leaving an 8" tail. String {1 gold pearl and 1A} ninety times, then string 1 gold pearl. Remove the tension bead and pass both tail threads through one needle. Lay the pin base on the work surface so the pin channel points up. Pass the tail needle down through the right inner channel. String {1 gold pearl and 1A} nine times, then string 1 gold pearl; pass up through the left inner channel and through about 10 pearls and seed beads on the other end of the strand. Pass the working thread needle through the strand of beads in the opposite direction. Pull on the threads in opposite directions to tighten all the beads. Secure the threads and trim. Repeat, this time stringing {1 cream pearl and 1B} sixty-four times, then 1 cream pearl. Pass down through the right outer channel, string {1 cream pearl and 1B} nine times, then string 1 cream pearl and pass up through the left outer channel.
