COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TWO SIMPLE MARINE ENGINE BSFC ESTIMATION METHODS Article
Fulltext available Sep 2020 Roland Zalacko Mate Zoldy Gyozo Simongati Due to increasingly strict
environmental regulations and dwindling oil reserves, fuel consumption and its minimisation play a
more and more important role in shipping as well. Other option is the use of alternative fuels, which
are increasingly present in shipping with more and more variations. In inland navigation, the above
mentioned solutions are also functional, but less achievable. On the one hand, the slower delivery
reduces the competitive position of inland navigation in the market, and on the other hand, the
number of propulsion systems with alternative fuels are very small in this area. Therefore, the
greatest innovation potential can be found in optimising the drive system for minimise the fuel
consumption. Many methods have been published in the past decade to determine the latter
component.http://e-hematologica.com/users/elementary-hydraulics-solution-manual.xml
In this research, the authors review the factors influencing fuel consumption of inland navigation,
the measurement of fuel consumption and the estimation procedures by any means of transportation
based on the literature. They present their modeling results, which are transplanted from several
areas into water transport. For this purpose, a Multilayer perceptron MLP regressor ANN is used,
with the grid search technique being applied to determine the appropriate properties of the model.
After the model training, its quality is determined using R2 value and a BlandAltman BA graph which
shows a majority of values predicted falling within the 95% confidence interval. Evolutionary

Traveling Salesman Problem in Nautical Environments an Evolutionary Computing Approach to
Optimization of Tourist Route Paths in Medulin, Croatia Article Fulltext available Jan 2020 Sandi
Baressi Segota Ivan Lorencin Kazuhiro Ohkura Zlatan Car The Traveling salesman problem TSP
defines the problem of finding the optimal path between multiple points, connected by paths of a
certain cost. This paper applies that problem formulation in the maritime environment, specifically a
path planning problem for a tour boat visiting popular tourist locations in Medulin, Croatia. The
problem is solved using two evolutionary computing methodsthe genetic algorithm GA and the
simulated annealing SAand comparing the results are compared by an extensive search of the
solution space. The results show that evolutionary computing algorithms provide comparable results
to an extensive search in a shorter amount of time, with SA providing better results of the two. View.
Concretely, for engines, it can be used for exhaust emission prediction, but also for engine control,
for reduction of fuel consumption, as well as for reduction of the cylinder temperature, with the
purpose of NOx reduction.

The main purpose of the vehicles is to transport the goods and the passengers. The road traffic has
the largest share in transport. Majority of the transport vehicles use the IC engine as a power unit.
The application of engines driven by fossil fuels has caused the road traffic to exhibit its poor side in
terms of harmful effect on environment and human health. The constant tightening of the legal
regulations has led the engine manufacturers to continuously improve the IC engines. Determination
of the exhaust emission parameters usually requires an experiment. The possibility of neural
network application for pollutants concentration prediction in the exhaust gases from diesel engines
based on experimental data is considered in this paper. Some inputs, not previously considered in
the reviewed literature, are introduced into the developed model of the neural network. Then, the
remaining models are evaluated using MAE, with those that have a lower MAE being considered the
higher quality models.. Use of Artificial Neural Network for Estimation of Propeller Torque Values in
a CODLAG Propulsion System Article Fulltext available Jan 2020 Sandi Baressi Segota Daniel
Stifanic Kazuhiro Ohkura Zlatan Car An artificial neural network ANN approach is proposed to the
problem of estimating the propeller torques of a frigate using combined diesel, electric and gas
CODLAG propulsion system. The authors use a multilayer perceptron MLP feedforward ANN trained
with data from a dataset which describes the decay state coefficients as outputs and system
parameters as inputswith a goal of determining the propeller torques, removing the decay state
coefficients and using the torque values of the starboard and port propellers as outputs. A total of
53760 ANNs are trained26880 for each of the propellers, with a total 8960 parameter combinations.
The results are evaluated using mean absolute error MAE and coefficient of determination R2.

By using data available in UCI, online machine learning repository, MLPs for prediction of gas
turbine GT and GT compressor decay state coefficients are designed. Aforementioned MLPs are
trained and tested by using 11 934 samples, of which 9 548 samples are used for training and 2 386
samples are used testing. In the case of GT decay state coefficient prediction, the lowest mean
relative error of 0.622 % is achieved if MLP with one hidden layer of 50 artificial neurons AN
designed with Tanh activation function is utilized. This configuration achieves the best results if it is
trained by using LBFGS solver. In the case of GT compressor decay state coefficient, the best results
are achieved if MLP is designed with four hidden layers of 100, 50, 50 and 20 ANs, respectively. This
configuration is designed by using Logistic sigmoid activation function. This can be achieved by
utilizing a Convolutional Neural Network CNN based algorithm. For purposes of these research a
dataset of 5608 marine object images is collected by using Google satellite imagery and Google
Image Search. For recognition of marine objects, an algorithm constructed with three CNNs is
proposed. The first CNN for classification on the main classes achieves accuracy of 92.37 %. The
CNN used for vessels recognition achieves accuracies of 94.12 % for cargo ships recognition, 98.82
% for cruise ships recognition, 97.64 % for war ships recognition and 95.29 % for boats recognition.
The CNN used for recognition of other objects achieves accuracies of 88.56 % for waves and marine
animals recognition, 96.92 % for garbage patches recognition and 89.21 % for oil spills recognition.
The relevant facts were gathered while analysing the performance of the slowspeed Wartsila RTA
engine on an Aframax tanker. The analysis comprised fuel properties, regular and extraordinary
examinations of the engine, including the control and replacement of piston rings and the
measurement of the liner wear rate.

http://hermandadtropasnomadas.com/images/canon-7d-manual-mode.pdf
The research particularly focused on the top compression ring as it withstands highest loads and
fastest wear. On the other side, the research involved a chemical analysis of the piston rings with the
purpose of establishing their chemical properties, structure, coating thickness and microhardness.
In addition to a number of preventive measures that can be taken on board before injecting the fuel
into the combustion chamber, the selection of a piston ring’s material quality affects its wear rate to
a large extent. The wear rate also depends on the catalyst fines in fuel. In practice, the piston ring of
GGV type proved to be resistant to abrasive wear and its chemical properties were established
through laboratory material testing. View. The concept of Industry 4.0 involves many different
elements and problems which can occur in manufacturing technologies. Both methods give the same
results, but they dont use the same parameters in developed power calculation. Steam turbine
developed power depends on steam specific enthalpies, but the major influence on any steam
turbine developed power has steam mass flow rate. View. The basic idea is to replace the traditional
thermodynamic equations of the cylinder with appropriate multidimensional numerical maps, in
order to simplify the calculation process during the simulation, but still creating a dynamic model for
the prediction over time of the main characteristics of the engine. In this regard, the proposed
method, based on numerical tables and physical equations especially for turbocharger dynamics can
avoid the use of ANN together with its long training procedure.. A Diesel Engine Modelling
Approach for Ship Propulsion RealTime Simulators Article Fulltext available May 2019 Marco
Altosole Ugo Campora Massimo Figari Michele Laviola Michele Martelli A turbocharged diesel
engine numerical model, suitable for realtime ship manoeuvre simulation, is presented in this paper.

http://jms-servisni.com/images/canon-7d-manual-focus.pdf
While some engine components mainly the turbocharger, intercooler and manifolds are modelled by
a filling and emptying approach, the cylinder simulation is based on a set of fivedimensional
numerical matrices each matrix is generated by means of a more traditional thermodynamic model
based on incylinder actual cycle. The new cylinder calculation approach strongly reduces the engine
transient computation time, making it possible to transform the simulation model into a realtime
executable application. As a case study, the simulation methodology is applied to a high speed four
stroke turbocharged marine diesel engine, whose design and off design running data are available
from the technical sheet. In order to verify the suitability of the proposed model in realtime
simulation applications, a yacht propulsion plant simulator is developed. Numerical results in ship
acceleration and deceleration manoeuvres are shown, reducing the simulation running time of 99%
in comparison with the corresponding incylinder actual cycle engine model. Keep me logged in Log

Besides, its superior quality has been recognized through continuous winning WorldClass

market it is normal to instruct the ship to move at slow or economy speed towards certain
destination until the charter is finalized. Sometimes the charters also demand that the vessel should
proceed at slow steaming and a relevant clause is inserted in the charter party. It is a usual practice
that the charterers ask for this data prior to fixing the charter party. In today’s scenario the
charterers may also ask for slow steaming data. In cases when a long anchor is expected or when
the cargo is not time sensitive it may be profitable to the charterer to run the ship as slowly as
possible to save fuel as well as anchoring costs.

Main engine turbocharger can cope up with the air demand and oil fired boiler is cut off. Main
engine turbocharger can cope up with the air demand. Main engine turbochargers cannot cope up
due to less enthalpy of exhaust gas and the auxiliary blowers are running. The blowers are put in
manual mode to avoid their cutting on and off and damaging the motor due to repeated starts and
the associated high staring current. But these are rare occasions and a Chief Engineer should advice
the Master against such operation continuously unless it is unavoidable. As during sailing no fuel is
allotted for the boiler firing in the charter party and to avoid unnecessary maintenance of the boiler
it is prudent to report such RPM to the charterers. In this particular engine the turbocharger
exhaust outlet temperature is a limiting factor as at 330 deg C the high temperature alarm is
generated and resets at 324 deg C. The other limiting factors are high cylinder exhaust
temperatures; low scavenge pressure and boiler pressure. The oil fired boiler fires when the
pressure drops below 5.5 bars. Actual speed will depend on weather experienced. It also helped to
find out the safe eco speed and RPM. This extra fuel consumption of 2 MT per day slightly offsets the
saving otherwise. Got questions Visit the community forum to ask questions, get answers, meet

Trading. The Depositor may switch between the types of sale with prior consent of the Auctioneer. A
switch is not possible while valid bids or offers appropriate to the chosen form of sale exist or may
be submitted for the Item. If the Auctioneer receives a general utilization order from the Depositor
then the selection of suitable sales type is the exclusive right of the Auctioneer.

The Auctioneer is not party to the purchase contract, which is concluded with a surcharge, but
rather only mediates the purchase contract between the Depositor and the Participant. The
Auctioneer is responsible for the organisation and carrying out of the auction. For these services,
the Auctioneer receives a commission of 18% of the net purchase price from the Participant who was
awarded the bid. In individual cases the Special Terms may include differing levels of commission.
After acceptance of the bid and receipt of invoice the Purchaser has the right to be informed of the

amount, the first of these bids received by the Auctioneer shall be accepted. The Auctioneer is
entitled to reject the bids of one or more Participants should they regard them as too low.For
packages the auction takes place in two steps Once bids on the individual Items have been accepted,
the package is put up for auction. If there are no bids made on the package or no bid is accepted for
the package, then acceptance of bids for the individual Items is definitively issued assuming the
minimum price has been achieved. The bids for individual Items are then not accepted in accordance
with the conditions. In individual cases the Special Terms may include a different percentage. The
Participant whose bid was accepted is automatically informed by the Auctioneer via email that their
bid was successful. In general the bid of the Participant who made the highest bid within the bidding
period is accepted.

If no higher bid is made within 10 minutes of the end of the auction then the auction ends at the
stated closing time. Should a bid exceeding previous bids be made less than ten minutes before the
end of the bidding period, the closing time will be extended such that a period of ten minutes
elapses between submission of the highest bid and the closing time. The same shall apply should this
bid itself be exceeded during the extension period. The auction ends with submission of the highest
bid which is not outbid within ten minutes. Determination of the closing time shall be determined
solely and finally by the system clock within the Online Platform. Should two or more persons make
one and the same offer simultaneously and the call for further offers is not heeded, the highest
bidder shall be chosen by lot. The Special Terms may provide for differing Commitment Periods.
Further bids may be submitted during the Commitment Period. During the Commitment Period the
Auctioneer remains authorized to reject the Participants bid. If the Auctioneer does not declare
lifting of the reservation within the Commitment Period, then the bid is not definitively accepted.
The Participants agree to be bound by the decision of the Auctioneer. Should the Auctioneer decide
that a purchase contract has not into come existence subject to the conditions of the highest offer
concerned, they are entitled to put the relevant Items Deposited up for auction again. The Seller is

whether or not the certified cheque complies with these requirements is at the absolute discretion of
the Auctioneer. In the event of payment by cheque, the Auctioneer may require that the Item
successfully bid for may not be dismantled and taken away until the full amount of the cheque has
cleared in the Auctioneer’s bank account.

The Auctioneer may approve the immediate transport of the Item purchased should the Purchaser
pay by certified cheque. Transfer and other fees are to be paid by the Purchaser. Cheques will be
accepted on account of payment. Purchasers from countries outside the EU are required to pay the
VAT to the Auctioneer as a deposit. The VAT will be refunded after presentation of properly stamped
original export documentation. Sales to Participants from countries within the EU may only be
relieved of VAT on presentation of the officially authenticated VAT identification number.Errors
excepted. In the case of delayed payment or delayed collection of the auctioned Items by the
Purchaser, the Depositor may, upon unsuccessful expiration of an adequate deadline for
performance, at their discretion, dismantle and store the auctioned Items at the expense and risk of
the Purchaser, or withdraw from the purchase contract and demand damages for nonperformance.
In the latter case the Auctioneer may reauction the Items. The Purchaser is not permitted to
participate in the renewed auction. The Purchaser shall remain liable for any reduction in the price
realised but shall have no claim to a higher price. The risk of accidental destruction, loss or damage
