DISEASE OF THE MERIDIAN
1. Disorders of spleen and stomach:
Abdominal pain and distension, poor appetite,
vomiting, diarrhea, dysentery, borborygmus,
jaundice and oedema
2. Kidney or gynecological disorder:
Dysmenorrhoea, irregular menstruation, uterine
bleeding, morbid leucorrhoea, prolapse of the
uterus, sterility, delayed labour, nocturnal
emission, impotence, enuresis, dysuria
3. Disorders in the regions along the course of
the meridian

THOROUGHFARE VESSEL
 The Thoroughfare
Vessel (chong mai)
originates in the pelvic
cavity and runs alongside
the kidney meridian up to
the thorax. It is regarded
as the “sea of blood,"
which is the place for the
twelve regular meridians
to converge and where it
helps regulate the qi and
blood inside them.
GONGSUN 公孫, SP4

 Method:
Pucture perpendicularly 0.5 ~ 0.8 cun.
Moxibustion is applicable.
SANYINJIAO 三陰交, SP6

Location:

On the tibial aspect of the leg, posterior to


the medial border of the tibia, 3 cun
superior to the prominence of the medial
malleolus
Functions:

1. Eliminate damp by pomoting spleen

2. Strengthen liver and kidney


SANYINJIAO 三陰交, SP6

 Indications
1. Disorders of the spleen and stomach:
poor appetite, abdominal pain, borborygmus,
abdominal distension and diarrhea
2. Gynecological and obstetric disorders:
Irregular menstruation, menorrhagia,
dysmenorrhoea, morbid leucorrhea, delayed
labour
3. Disorders of liver and kidney:
Edema, nocturnal emission, impotence, enuresis,
dysuria, dizziness and vertigo, insomnia,
prolapse of the uterus, etc.
SANYINJIAO 三陰交, SP6

 Method:
Puncture perpendicularly 0.5~1.0 cun.
Moxibustion is applicable. Needling is
contraindicated in pregnancy women.
YINLINGQUAN陰陵泉, SP9

 Yin=death, dark;
Ling=tomb, a mound;
Quan=a spring; Dark

 Location:
 On the lower border of
the medial condyle of
the tibia, in the
depression on the
medial border of the
tibia
XUEHAI 血海, SP10

Location:
On the anteromedial aspect of the thigh,
on the bulge of the vastus medialis muscle,
2 cun superior to the medial end of the
base of the patella when the knee is flexed.

 Functions:
1. Eliminate damp by promoting spleen

2. Regulate menstruation and blood

 Indications:

1. Urticaria, eczema, erysipelas (expel damp)

2. Pain in the medial aspect of the thigh (remove


obstruction in the channel)
3. Irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhoea, uterine
bleeding, amenorrhoea
YINLINGQUAN陰陵泉, SP9

 Indication:
 Abdominal pain and distension, dysentery,
diarrhoea, edema, jaundice, dysuria, enuresis,
urinary incontinence, pain in the external
`
genitalia, dysmenorrhoea, pain in the knee
 Method:
 Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0cun.
Moxibustion applicable
XUEHAI 血海, SP10

 Method:
Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.2 cun.
Moxibustion is applicable.
