Activity 1
Direction: Read the summary of the novel entitled “FRANKENSTEIN” and determine its
nature, appeal and the social function. (Please refer to Appendix F for the summary)

“Frankenstein”

The novel of Frankenstein draws inspiration from nature’s

elements. Nature is viewed as source of abundant creation and
sooting comfort, as well as terrifying force with dreadful brutality.
Stunning in its beauty and shattering in its brutality, it is both
benovolent and diabolic. Humans in the novel benefit from the
natural world’s life-giving and caring qualities, yet also threatened by NATURE
progress. When men like Victor Frankenstein attempt to defy nature’s
laws and take its power for themselves, nature responds with fast and
merciless vengeance.

The monster’s statement that Frankenstein is his God and he is

his Adamis the greatest challenge to Frankenstein’s authority, as
abandoning the first creature of his kind is far more serious
transgession than avoiding the offspring of a botched experiment of
him.Instead of utilizing his power to embrace and nurture his
APPEAL offspring, the monster reflects everything. Frankenstein tries to keep
his creation from ever having a relationship with him, forcing him
away from happiness and into loneliness. The monster convincingly
reminds Victor of the role he assumed the minute he was formed, as
well as the obligations Victor bears.

The novel’s author tries to educate her readers on a variety of social

topics and scenario. Through her characters and plot of her work, she
illustrated these concerns. In today’s world, the social commentary
she portrayed in her story is crucial. Many authors include social
commentary in their works; Mary Shelley as the author demonstrates
how individuals discriminate against others based on their SOCIAL
appearance or physical attractiveness, how women crave power, and FUNCTION
how science is driven quite too far.
Activity 2
Direction: Write a paragraph expository essay of the summary of “FRANKENSTEIN”. Also,
the essay must focus in the Archetypal Approach in Literary Critism through answering the
guide question below. The meaning of expository and the rubric for the evaluation of the essay
are also given.

Concession of the Novel “Frankenstein”

In real-life based situation, everytime we experience abandonment or isolation from

people closest to us, our relationship to them became complicated. It is the same in the story of
“Frankenstein” by a writer named Marry Shelley to which the relationship of the character
Victor Frankenstein and his creation embodies with strain, as exhibited by Victor’s
abandonment of his created monster as soon he witnesses life enter is grotesque frame. The
monster’s abandonment leads to an action to which become devastating sequence of events
that culminates in the death of his little brother William and the execution of his servant
Justine.
Frankenstein’s monster leads his existence on their society become miserable. The
creature often details the despair he has come to experience when he appeals to Victor. In
doing so he uses pathos to effectively generate an emotional response. After being rebuked by
Victor for his appearance, the creature expresses how he espected Victor’s response. Through
self-deprecating language he is able to convey to Victor his complete despondency as a result of
his interactions with humans. The creature of Frankenstein understands how miserable looking
he was as being hated and unallowed in their society. The isolation of the monster is recurring
theme throughout the novel. Things and situations become worst as he feel he has no hope of
experiencing unadulterated joy or complete acceptance to his surroundings. He has then
celebrate his life’s misery and leads to a sense of disperation about the events. When we put
ourselves to the situation, it is indeed unworthy to be neglected by the people who the one
made us. Maybe the reason why the creature do those things just because he all want
acceptance to the world he is living and to catch attention to Victor but things do not
happened. The monter draws further attention to his predicament, as he makes it clear his
situation is worse than any other living creatur, and truly unrivaled. Throughout his emotional
appeal to victor, the monster is able to convey his isolated and dejected state and begin to
soften Victor’s heart by generating a sense of remorse and sympathy from him. Due to grief and
unhappiness, a lot of individuals convicted and leads upon death including Elizabeth which is
the wife of Victor. Things become worst and upon in the near of the ending, the problem slowly
resolved but also lead into hurtful tragedy.
This is what we should takes thing to consider, before doing such deed or decision let us
come up first for an idea to the things moght happen if we do things in life even it is all about to
our family, experiment or whatsoever. Our journey of life comes with a lot of pitfalls, therefore,
we should accept the fact that there is no perfect life. Whether we are unaccepted or
unwelcome by anyone, there are times that they would also select us especially when we talk
about to our parents. Even if how imperfect and not good-lloking we are, we will always be the
one to be considered as their masterpiece. Judgemental society will always be present, instead
of doing more unlawful things let them know how good person we are as well as being good-
hearted individual. We should not act just like in the novel of Frankenstein to which leading
things to more complicated, instead even we are bad-looking or good looking.
