Portfolio – Essay 1 - Benefits of your favorite electronic device

I have several electronic devices, but the one that, without a doubt, I use the most is my cell
phone. I got my first phone at the age of 12, and I've had different cell phones ever since.
Now, my current smartphone, I've had for 6 months.

The truth is, I use my cell phone all the time. It's essential for me, and if I have to mention
some benefits about it, the first is that it keeps me connected. Apart from the well-known
SMS and phone calls, I have instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp and
Telegram downloaded on my cell phone, which allow me to connect with my friends, family
and even co-workers quickly and easily.

The second benefit is that it has made it easier for me and continues to make it easier for me
to plan and organize my time and tasks. In all the years I've used my phone, I've always
downloaded a productivity app like Pomodoro. For a few months I have been using the
Trello app and, although it has a web version, I use it on my cell phone because it is at my
fingertips, which allows me to check my pending tasks faster.

The third benefit is that it gets me out of trouble. For example, if for some reason I wasn't
home but had to attend my team meetings or college classes, I just had to download the
Zoom or Meet app and enter the class. If I urgently need a document and I am not at home, I
only have to verify it from my cell phone (of course, this is only possible if I have saved it in
the cloud beforehand). If I don't remember any deadline or anniversary or any important
date, I only check it in the mobile calendar (of course, this is only possible if I have saved it
in the Google calendar). If I don't remember what day it is, or what date it is, I just look at the
screen of my cell phone... I think this point has become more than clear.

The fourth and last benefit, my cell phone (and in general, the smartphone) has multifaceted
functions. Why do I say it? Because I have used it to take quick notes, I have used it to listen
to music, I have been using it to read, I use it to watch movies and series, I use it to check
my social networks, also to check and answer emails, to buy in line, to take photos and even
to pay and make transfers. Moreover, I am using it to do this task. And all this thanks to the
variety of applications that exist.
Portfolio – Essay 2 - Something mysterious

Have I heard about something mysterious? I'm sure I do, but I don't remember... or maybe I
don't want to remember. But let's not get off-topic. Enough mysterious things happen in the
building where I live for me to pay attention to others.

A few days ago I stayed up until 4 in the morning, the truth is that it was a very quiet night,
everything was silent, no cars were passing by, and the music I was listening to while doing
homework was ideal. But exactly at midnight, I heard a noise... a marble falling and rolling in
the apartment above, it was totally stressful. The first thing I thought of was what are they
doing playing at this hour? Then I thought about it, the upstairs neighbors are two elderly
people, they don't have small children! Could it be that the old men started playing marbles
at midnight? That can't be possible! So, it might have been that his grandson arrived, yes...
that sounded more logical.

That same night, at 3 am, I heard footsteps, someone climbing the stairs of the building and
making a lot of noise with their heels. It may have been a neighbor coming home from work,
so didn't worry me about it... Seconds later, I realized that the hallway light hadn't been
turned on. What does this have to do? The corridor light turns on when it detects movement.
But it didn't light up! Could it have been spoiled? Might they have cut the power supply to the
corridor at that time? I don't know, it could have been that and that's why the light didn't
come on.

At 4 am, I was walking to my room when I heard the pots clanging. I thought it was my dog
making a mess in the kitchen, so I went to look... And no, it couldn't have been my dog,
because he wasn't in the kitchen! Could it be the neighbor? I didn't think about it too much, I
just wanted to sleep.

The next day I saw grandma who lives in the apartment upstairs, and asked her about the
noise... Her grandson hadn't come to visit, and they don't have marbles! So what could it
have been? And that was not all, I told my mom. She told me that almost every day, at 12,
marbles sounded falling and that she had no idea what it was either. So I asked her about
the light in the corridor, she told me that the light works fine and no one turned off the light
supply... So what could it have been? Could the neighbor have passed out of range of the
motion detector? Ha, I doubt it, if even it detects my dog! Or in the end, it may just have
been me hearing things. What could have been? The only thing that relieves me knows that
the sound of pots I heard did come from the apartment in front of ours. ¿So…I’m not crazy...
or am I?
