everyone had different opinion on what they wanted to do?
What was the result of the situation and why do you think this
sometimes happens?

AIM: How did the patriots struggle over going to war or remaining at peace?

There is no room for hope...if we wish to be free...we

must fight! Our chains are choking us. The war is
inevitable, let it come.

Gentleman may cry, peace, peace - but there is no

peace. The war has already begun.

I know not what course others may take; but as for me,
give me liberty, or give me death!

- Patrick Henry, 2nd Virginia Convention, March 23rd, 1775.

GEORGE WASHINGTON
The 2nd Continental Congress decided to select George
Washington as the commander-in-chief of the continental
army.

George Washington was selected because of his

experience in the French & Indian War, and also because
he was from Virginia which would get many southern
states support. This came as a surprise to many, especially
John Hancock who planned to get the job originally.

The Kings Response

!

King George III

By the time the King received the Olive Branch he had already declared the
colonies to be in “open rebellion” and wanted to “...bring the traitors
to justice.” The king never even read the Olive Branch Petition.

Based on the king’s words, what will Britain likely do to the colonists who are
fighting against the British?

The british will probably send more troops in to wipe the floor
with the militian troops

Argue the impact the King’s response will have on the debate between the
moderates and radicals and the issue of peace or war in the 13 colonies.

I think the kings response will make more people want war as they realize
the king wont give them peace
