Anthropometry

Measurement of human limbs (weight, volume, linear dimensions, etc.).

Humans have variations in terms of shape, size, strength (strength) of the limbs they have.

Anthropometric data is used for various purposes such as designing workplaces, work tools/facilities, etc.
in order to obtain appropriate and appropriate sizes with the dimensions of the human limbs who will use
them.Population differences (ethnic, age, gender, etc.)

Population percentile - % of population considered

If design for mean, 50% excluded

Typically, design for 95% of population (i.e., 5% female to 95% male)

Percentiles calculated assuming population data is normally distributed.

Percentile.

Percentile is a term in statistics for dividing a group of data into one hundred equal parts. So, there are 99
percentile values that divide the data into one hundred parts. The percentile is usually denoted by the
letter P

Ergonomics aspect

rule or norm in a work system. The word "ergonomics" comes from the Greek word "ergon" which means
work and "nomos" means natural law, can be defined as the study of human aspects in the work
environment which are reviewed in anatomy, physiology, psychology, engineering, management and
design and design (Scoot 2006).

Ergonomics is the science, art and application of technology to harmonize or balance all facilities used
both in activities and rest with human abilities and limitations both physically and mentally so that the
overall quality of life becomes better (Hedge 2009).

There are several benefits of ergonomics, namely:

1. Increased production, which means economically profitable.

This is partly due to:

a. Increased working time efficiency.

b. Improved quality of work.

c. The speed of employee turnover (labor turnover) is relatively low.

2. Decreased probability of accidents, which means:

a. Can reduce high medical costs. This is quite significant because the cost for treatment is greater than
the cost for treatment prevention.

b. Can reduce capacity provision for emergencies

3. Using anthropometry can be planned or designed:

a. Work uniform

b. Workspace

c. Work environment

d. Equipment/machinery

e. Consumer products (Caputo 2006)

Some things that must be considered in the application of ergonomics (Anies, 2005):

1. Physical, mental and social conditions must be endeavored as well as possible so that a healthy and
productive workforce is obtained.

2. Physical abilities can be identified by conducting anthropometric examinations, joint range of motion
and muscle strength.

3. The work environment must provide sufficient space for the body and limbs so that they can move
freely and efficiently.

4. Physical workload during which blood circulation increases by 10 to 20 times. Increased blood
circulation in the working muscles forces the heart to pump more blood.

5. Body posture at work. Body posture at work is related to seating, work desks and broad views. To plan
the workplace and the equipment used, body measurements are needed that ensure the most natural
posture and allow the necessary movements to be carried out.

Physical ergonomics

As the name implies, physical ergonomics is related to the characteristics of human anatomy,
anthropometry, physiology, and biomechanics related to physical activity.

Usually, this aspect gets the most attention in the work environment. Work ergonomics is indeed trying
to adjust the conditions of the work environment and job demands with the abilities of workers. This
approach is a solution for various problems, one of which is musculoskeletal disorders or disorders of
muscles and bones. In essence, workplace ergonomics is really focused on building a better work
environment. When work is designed in such a way as to suit the capabilities of the worker, not only is
the result better, but the worker who completes it also has a better experience.Physical ergonomics focus
areas include the consequences of repetitive motion, safety in the workplace, comfort in using portable
devices, keyboard design, posture at work, and the overall work environment the process involves
observing the workers and the work itself. Then, the work environment is designed to be optimal in terms
of safety, health, comfort, and work performance.

Ergonomics for the stamping jig tool that we made is located on the side of the corner circled in the
image presented

ISYE8022 – Engineering Optimization

The picture circled in red must be blunt or coated with a soft material so that it does not endanger the
workers who use this stamping jig, because when doing this the worker will hold the side of the tamping
jig as shown in the picture below.

When using this tool workers also use gloves because the base of this stamping jig will be hot if it is used
for a long time.
