Rooms Updates: NOV/DEC 2022

SW05 – Theatres
AUGUST 2022

John and I will work on a possible interim solution for these theatres and design a more permanent solution to send to
Janice for a Business Case. We will keep you posted.

1. There is no replacement projector that could simulate the drivers of the current one installed.
2. We will have to replace it with our two only Panasonic PT-MZ570 spares, one is with Behzad for RMA.
a. End-User will need to use Remote Controller to turn projector(s) ON/OFF
b. We will schedule a nightly shutdown to preserve projectors’ lifespan.
3. The goal is to create a business case and get funds for a new system design with Extron replacing the old Creston
system

NOVEMBER 2022

4. Currently, we only have one PTMZ570 projector.

5. The second PTMZ570 is broken and came from SE01-109:
a. This second projector was sitting at the AV Office waiting for RMA since Sept 2022 right after J&B
removed it from SE01-109.
b. Behzad sent it to RMA on Oct 25, 2022.
i. @Behzad Any news from Panasonic? Could you follow-up? Many thanks!
6. Facilities needs to install two CMA110 projector flanges to accommodate the Panasonics’ extra weight.
a. Project Services is currently taking over 8 months to assign a FCD Project Coordinator/Manager for any
new infrastructure work.
b. I talked to Joe Cosh (Project Services Director) and there is no way to expedite this because they are
understaffed. SE12/SW03/HSC/DTC Tech Collider and other projects are taking a big part of Project
Services’ manpower.
c. As for the in-house Facilities team, from what I have heard: they decide their own battles as they see fit.
i. I will meet with Janice and see if she can do anything to help get Facilities onboard.
7. Joe and Benson are fully booked until the second week of January.
a. In December, they will be working through their flex days to accommodate the high demand of
installations.

DECEMBER – 2022

8. Meeting scheduled with Brian Hosier

9. SW05 First Test scheduled for Dec 8, 2022
10. Separate e-mail (subject: SW05 Theatres Upgrade) sent to LTC-AVS + Brian Hosier.

AV Workshop
Janice Baldry and Space Planning would like to install extra shelves in the AV Workshop to help mitigate our current lack
of storage. She requested that AV organize the workshop test bench/table and remove the equipment and boxes all
around, so logistics can move it to SE30. Further organization of the AV Workshop will be necessary in the foreseeable
future in order to clear the space for these new shelves. We think this may be a good conversation for you to be
involved, it would also be great to have Behzad as he also uses that space.

1. Benson and Pablo cleaned and sorted everything we use for AV installations, and labelled with green tape “NO
USE” what we don’t need or have never used.
a. I quickly showed them to Behzad yesterday (Nov 22nd ).
b. There are lots of VGA, Cat5, DVI cables, OHP roll holders, and things that haven’t been used since the
last ice age (lol) that we can certainly recycle.
c. Feel free to dispose everything labelled NO USE, please keep the crates and bins.

2. As you may have heard, there are lots of power extension cords and power bars available for grabs on the big
test bench table.
a. Feel free to take as many as you’d like. The left overs will be disposed.
b. Glen and Behzad, got a box for circulation.
c. AV Techs, have a look if you’d like to get some for events and leave them at staging, other storages
across BBY, and/or satellite campuses.
d. Let me know once you are done and I will recycle the rest.

3. This week we’ll do a logistics request to remove the big bench/table.

a. That will free up some space for receiving equipment.

4. Benson is currently sorting the projector cages. The excess will go to SW03 storage with the others. Keep in mind
they are still usable and valuable to us.
a. Once Benson is done, the right hand small test bench with peg board will be removed so we can move
the black giant rolling tools box there.

5. Janice is aware we have a preferred design. I am working with her in other projects and will schedule a site
visitation to go over the scope of work once the AV workshop is ready.
a. Thanks to Joe, Benson, Behzad, Hugh, Kelly, John for attending the last walk through and brainstorming
great ideas for our limited space.

6. Kelly scheduled a big clean up for Dec 6 to clear out the old stock in preparation for the new shelving.
a. Thanks to everyone involved in this!

CARI -2018B
• There is a strange problem occurring currently with the AV Processor in CARI-2018B, in drop F-213. The
processor appears to be set correctly, and the network port appears to be active, however the device does NOT
register in Periscope. Additionally, the device cannot be connected to via a web browser, using either IP or
hostname.
• TechHelp Ticket 1 #664353 created by Pablo in 2021.
• TechHelp Ticket 2 #698035 created by Joe 2022.

CARI -2018 A,B

• These rooms are also unreachable via the web browser; however, these devices can be reached wirelessly via
our proprietary software, but we still cannot reach CARI-2018B.

Update: June 28, 2022 – Joe, Pablo, Benson
Currently waiting on Brian Hosier’s response. Please check previous Bulletins for complete update.

Equipment Update – NOV/DEC 2022

We ordered two small laser projectors for testing:

1. Panasonic PT-VMZ50U: $3,500.00

a. Weight: 15.2lbs
b. Lumens: 5,000
c. Fit in the cage with small adjustment
d. Slower switching inputs when using EBP108/MLC
e. Faster ON/OFF than EB-LB530U

2. Epson EB-L530U: $2,600.00

a. Weight: 18.1lbs
b. Lumens: 5,200
c. Fit in the cage but needs adjustments
d. Faster switching inputs when using EBP108/MLC
e. ON/OFF Feedback is slower than PT-VMZ50U

More updates and details to come. Overall, it’s best to have a slower ON/OFF and faster input switching than otherwise.
EB-LB530U is so far the preferred option.

AV Procurement Update:
Brian Hosier will submit the procurement on this Fall. He expects to receive an answer by April 2023.

Background: BH is leading the nRFP for all AV equipment, requirements for standard small laser projector for circulation
and smaller classrooms.

Extron GVE Update:

• DTC Campus Services have begun working implementing GVE for DTC rooms with IPCP Pro 250
o Walked through using Toolbelt
o Walked through editing GCP programs following the GVE guideline documents
• John has reached out to various High Ed. Organisations who had existing GVE experience (Douglas College, VCC,
Langara College)
o Would anyone from AV Services with Extron Control Specialist/Professional (i.e. can actually update GCP
programmes, want to visit these organisations to see how GVE is used and implemented and research
their lessons learnt before we undertake this at BCIT?
• Extron and AVI-SPL should now have access to GVE server to add devices for the HSC Building.
