Q 1. What was Sir Syed’s attitude towards the Indian National Congress?
Ans. The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885.Sir Syed was a staunch
advocate of Hindu Muslim collaboration. But he did not agree with the Congress
Philosophy of Single Indian Nationhood and disagreed with its politics of agitation.
He criticized the Congress and advised the Muslims to abstain from joining the
Congress because it represented only the Hindu Community and was not the
representative of entire Indian population.
Q 2. Write a short note on Simla Deputation?
Ans. A deputation consisting of 35 eminent Muslim leaders had a meeting with
Viceroy Lord Minto at Simla on October 1st, 1906. The deputation briefed the
viceroy about the demands of the Muslim community of India. The viceroy
attitude was very encouraging. He sympathized with the Muslim demands and
promised to take them up with the British government. Most of the Muslim
demands, including the demand for separate electorate, were granted in the
Government of India Act 1909.
Q 3. What were the primary objectives of the Muslim League at the time of its
formation?
Ans. The primary objectives of the Muslim League at the time of its formation
were as under:
1. To safeguard and protect the interests of the Indian Muslims and to convey
their demands to the British Government in a peaceful manner and through
constitutional means.
2. To foster feelings of goodwill and understanding between the Muslims and
other Indian communities.
Q 4. Write a short note on Delhi Convention.
Ans. An All-India Muslim League Legislators’ Convention was held in Delhi from 7 th
to 9th April 1946. About 500 central and provincial assembly members attended
the convention. The convention adopted a resolution. The Delhi Resolution
demanded that Muslim majority provinces be integrated in to a completely
sovereign, independent state, Pakistan. From the Muslim League, this was the
first resolution of its kind which spoke unambiguously about the state of Pakistan
comprising all Muslim provinces of the Subcontinent.
Q 5. Write a short note on Jinnah Gandhi Talks.
Ans. Jinnah Gandhi Talks took place between the 9th and 27th September at the
Quaid’s residence at Bombay. Unfortunately, this negotiation ended without
agreement because Quaid failed to convince Gandhi about the philosophy of
Lahore resolution. Gandhi insisted that Muslim League should join hands with
Congress unconditionally against the British and both the parties should solve
internal problems through mutual consultation after independence has been
achieved. Quaid argued that the problem of Muslim independent homeland
should be decided before the British leave India.
Q 6. Why Quaid-e- Azam was given the title of Ambassador of Hindu-Muslim
Unity and who gave him the title?
Ans. Quaid-e-Azam joined Muslim League in 1913. He was the member of Muslim
League and Congress both. Due to his effort’s joint session of Muslim league and
Congress was held at Lucknow on 30th and 31st December 1916. A pact was signed
between both parties. Under this scheme the Congress for the first time agreed to
accept Muslim demand for separate electorate. It was on this occasion that Mrs.
Sarojini Naidoo, an eminent Indian leader gave Jinnah the title of the Ambassador
of Hindu-Muslim Unity.
