AD No.: 2022-0026
Issued: 16 February 2022
Note: This Airworthiness Directive (AD) is issued by EASA, acting in accordance with Regulation

continuing airworthiness of an aircraft shall be ensured by accomplishing any applicable ADs. Consequently, no person may operate an aircraft to which
an AD applies, except in accordance with the requirements of that AD, unless otherwise specified by the Agency [Regulation (EU) 1321/2014 Annex I,
Part M.A.303] or agreed with the Authority of the State of Registry [Regulation (EU) 2018/1139, Article 71 exemption].

affected galley, as identified by Part Number (P/N) and serial number (s/n) in Table 1 and Table 2 of
Appendix 1 of this AD, or as identified by P/N in Tables 3, 4 or 5 of Appendix 1 of this AD.

EASA AD No.: 2022-0026
Affected galley: Affected galleys list 1 are galleys having an s/n and a P/N listed as “pre-mod P/N” in
Table 1 of Appendix 1 of this AD.
Affected galleys list 2 are galleys having an s/n and a P/N listed as “pre-mod P/N” in Table 2 of
Appendix 1 of this AD.
Affected galleys list 3 are galleys having a P/N listed in Table 3 of Appendix 1 of this AD.
Affected galleys list 4 are galleys having a P/N listed in Table 4 of Appendix 1 of this AD.
Affected galleys list 5 are galleys having a P/N listed in Table 5 of Appendix 1 of this AD.
The term ‘galley’ is used in this AD to identify also certain stowage units listed in the tables of
Appendix 1 of this AD.
Reason:
At the occasion of a re-engineering of galley G5, a 9G forward full scale qualification test was
performed during which the door of the waste compartment opened before the required load was
reached. The investigation determined that the opening of the waste compartment door was
caused by the galley global deflection.
This condition, if not corrected, could lead to failure of the galley door and release of waste bins
during a rejected take-off or an emergency landing, possibly resulting in damage to the aeroplane
and injury to occupants.
To address this potential unsafe condition, Airbus developed a modification (mod 159298) to
modify the waste compartment door of galley G5 by installing a door catch bracket and a new
striker. Zodiac Galleys Europe (formerly Driessen) published SB 213510-25-001 and Airbus published
SB A320-25-1BF6 (both original issue, later revised) to provide in-service installation instructions,
and consequently, EASA issued AD 2018-0255 to require modification of the waste compartment
door of galley G5.
After that AD was issued, several reports were received of finding container/galley end stop
bumpers damaged in service. Deformed end stops could break or lose their function to maintain
container/galley in their position on the aeroplane.
This condition, if not corrected, could lead to container detachment from the galley under certain
forward loading conditions, possibly resulting in injury to aeroplane occupants.
To address this potential unsafe condition, Airbus issued SB A320-25-1BHG, SB A320-25-1BK9 (later
revised) and SB A320-25-1BKK, providing instructions to modify and re-identify affected galleys, and
EASA issued AD 2019-0106 to require modification of the affected galleys by replacement of the
affected bumpers with serviceable bumpers.

EASA AD No.: 2022-0026
Since those ADs were issued, it was determined that additional aeroplanes may be affected by the
potential unsafe conditions previously described. Prompted by these findings, Airbus revised SB
A320-25-1BK9 (now at rev. 02), and Zodiac Galleys Europe revised SB 213510-25-001 (now at rev. D)
accordingly. It was also determined that certain stowage units are affected by the potential unsafe
condition.
For the reasons described above, this AD retains the requirements of EASA AD 2018-0255 and
AD 2019-0106, which are superseded, and expands the Applicability.
Modification:
(1) For Group 1 aeroplanes: Within 12 months after 11 December 2018 [the effective date of EASA
AD 2018-0255], modify the waste compartment door of each affected galley list 1 by installing a
door catch bracket and a new striker in accordance with the instructions of the applicable SB1
(see Note 1 of this AD).
(2) For Group 2 aeroplanes: Within 12 months after the effective date of this AD, modify the waste
compartment door of each affected galley list 2 by installing a door catch bracket and a new
striker in accordance with the instructions of the applicable SB1 (see Note 1 of this AD).
Note 1: After the modification as required by paragraph (1) or (2) of this AD, as applicable, a
Group 1 or Group 2 aeroplane is effectively a Group 3 aeroplane. See paragraph (3) of this AD for
applicable requirements.
(3) For Group 3 and Group 4 aeroplanes: Within 48 months after 29 May 2019 [the effective date
of EASA AD 2019-0106], modify and re-identify each affected galley on an aeroplane in
accordance with the instructions of the applicable SB2.
(4) For Group 5 aeroplanes: Within 48 months after 29 May 2019 [the effective date of EASA AD
2019-0106], contact Airbus for modification and re-identification instructions of each affected
galley list 5 and accomplish those instructions accordingly (see Note 2 of this AD).
Note 2: It is expected that the applicable SB2 will be updated at next scheduled revision to include
modification and re-identification instructions for affected galleys list 5.

(5) Modification of the waste compartment door of an affected galley, accomplished on an
aeroplane before the effective date of this AD in accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB
A320-25-1BF6 (any revision) and Zodiac Galleys Europe SB 213510-25-001 at rev. A, rev. B or
rev. C, is an acceptable method to comply with the requirements of paragraph (1) or (2) of this
AD, as applicable, for that aeroplane.
(6) Modification of an affected galley on an aeroplane, accomplished before the effective date of
this AD in accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB A320-25-1BK9 original issue or rev. 01,
is an acceptable alternative method to comply with the requirements of paragraph (3) of this
AD for that affected galley.
