Semi - Detailed Lesson Plan in Automotive Servicing

School: BAYUGAN CITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Grade Level: 11

Teacher: LESTER F. VILLAMOR Learning Area: AUTOMOTIVE SERVICING
Date and Time: Quarter: 2

I-OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates an understanding of the principles in

servicing the automotive battery.

B. Performance Standard: The learner independently services an automotive battery.

C. Learning Competencies/Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
a. Define battery and its uses;
b. Describe the different functions of the main components of battery; and
c. Appreciate the significance of battery in our daily life.

II- SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Battery, Components of Battery

i. Prayer
ii. Greetings
iii. Checking of Attendance
iv. Review of the Past lesson
v. Motivation
 Imagine living a life using these machines. How would it be?
The teacher will present a video related to the topic
 What are the materials/equipment are shown in the video?
 What do you think is used for those equipment to work?
 What do you think is the solution to make those equipment more
convenient to used?
vi. Presentation of the Objectives
B. Development Activities
i. Activity:
Name me!!!- The students are divided into two groups. They will label the
components of a battery.

ii. Analysis:
Guide Question:
1. What significance learning you gained from the activity?
2. What are three components of a battery?
3. What is the function of a battery?

iii. Abstraction
1. Group Activity – the class is divided into 3 groups, they are given a certain topic and
have 3 minutes collaboration.
2. Presentation of student output.
3. Clarification of students output.
4. Giving additional inputs pertaining to the topic.

Rubrics:

iv. Application
The students are divided into two groups. They are given a battery, wire and a bulb.
In 3 minutes they need to light up the bulb and write their observations.
- What are the processes you demonstrate in order for the bulb to light up?
- How does battery gives a significant impact in one’s life?
Rubrics:

IV- Evaluation

In a one-half sheet of paper answer the following question.

1. What is the function of a Battery?
2. Differentiates the components of a battery?

When a device is connected to a battery — a light bulb or an electric circuit — chemical reactions
occur on the electrodes that create a flow of electrical energy to the device.

Due to chemical reaction wit in the battery the anode builds up excess electrons. This cause the
electrolyte differences between the anode.

The electrons want to rearrange themselves and displace the extra electrons in the cathode.

However the electrolytes ensure that the electrons cannot directly to the cathode because of the
separator.

When the circuit is closed the “ with the help of the conductive path – between the anode and
cathode-, the electrons are able to travel at the cathode. This give power to the load or any
appliances along the way.

Over time this electrochemical process alters the chemical make up the in the anode and cathode
and eventually stop providing electrons – and this how battery dies.

When a device is connected to a battery — a light bulb or an electric circuit — chemical reactions
occur on the electrodes that create a flow of electrical energy to the device.

Lose Electrons: Oxidation (Anode) Gain Electrons: Reduction (Cathode) LEOGER

Group 1:

Anode

A negative terminal

An electrode made of metal such as zinc that accumulates negative charge.

Anode is the electrode where oxidation occurs. If a chemical species loses one or more electrons,
this is called oxidation.

Group 2:

Cathode

A positive terminal

An electrode made of metal such as copper that accumulate positive charge closes electrons.

Cathode is the electrode where reduction occurs. The opposite process, the gain of electrons, is
called reduction.

Group 3:

Electrolytes

A liquid solution on paste whose molecules spontaneously separate into positively charge atom or
group of atoms called ions.

The electrolyte is a chemical medium that allows the flow of electrical charge between the cathode
and anode.

Electrolyte solution – A solution containing ions that can conduct electricity.

ANODE CATHODE ELECTROLYTES

ANODE

There are two electrodes in every battery. Both are made of conductive materials,
but they serve different roles. One electrode, known as the cathode, connects to the
positive end of the battery and is where the electrical current leaves (or electrons
enter) the battery during discharge, which is when the battery is being used to power
something. The other electrode, known as the anode is an electrode made of metal
such as zinc that accumulates negative charge .it connects to the negative end of
the battery and is where the electrical current enters (or electrons leave) the battery
during discharge.

Between these electrodes, as well as inside them, is the electrolyte. This is a liquid
or gel-like substance that contains electrically charged particles, or ions. The ions
combine with the materials that make up the electrodes, producing chemical
reactions that allow a battery to generate an electric current.
