History of Barangay Danlugan

In the very beginning, Danlugan is an anonymous place occupied by very few native Subanen.
The place was a natural forest on its physical features, which was mostly covered with a certain variety of
trees, known to the natives as “DAN-LUGAN”, which was then popular to the Cebuano, in the later
period as “Lawaan Puti.”

The early inhabitants of the place earned their living through farming in the form of Kaingin
system. Once in a while, the natives gathered themselves under the shade of grown-up Dan-lugan trees
for their socialization.

By the year 1934-1935, the natives agreed themselves to name the place as “Danlugan” in
synonym to the name the abundant Dan-lugan trees. By 1936, the population of the place increased a lot
and different tribes discovered and settled in the area.

Cebuanos, Bul-anon and Sequehudnon were among the newcomers and that was the period they
agreed to select a leader among them to rule and supervise. The first leader was Mr. Teofizto Jeponia.

In 1945-1946, leaders were called “Teniente del Barrio and Mr. Maximo Palong-Palong
succeeded him. By that time, religious practices were given high importance and the residents united to
create a celebration of Barangay Fiesta to honor “San Isidro Labrador” as a patron. The celebration is
celebrated every third Sunday of the month of May.

In later years, Teniente del Barrio was change to Barangay Captain and Mr. Pablo Quiaroro was
the first one to be addressed on the position. More developments, programs and organizations flourished.

The next elected Barangay Captain was Mr. Faustino Bulacan. Under his administration,
education is highly improved and development of projects such as the construction of Elementary
Building through the assistance of Mr. Bartolome Baco, the PTA President and with the Head Teacher
Mr. Dela Pena

After several years, Mr. Florinecio Dag-uman took over the position as the new elected Barangay
Captain. During his time, additional improvements and developments was established and the population
increased.

The administration changed and Mr. Crispulo Dela Rama was elected as the new Barangay
Captain. During his administration, a calamity happened wherein the Danlugan Elementary School was
struck by strong “alimpulos.” The building was reconstructed eventually through the efforts of the
barangay officials, teachers, and with the support and cooperation of the citizens of the Barangay.

By the year 1967-1968, more projects were implemented and one of the significant projects was
the construction of Barangay Water System funded by the City Government through the supervision of
PACD office. Another significant project initiated was the construction of the Secondary School Building
Then; the Barangay Captain was Mr. Bartolome Baco.

He was succeeded by Mr Bartolome Dela Rama in the early years of 1970’s. In his
administration, five (5) puroks were created such as Purok Sili 1, Purok Pechay, and others.
In the following years, Mr. Daniel Carumba was appointed as the new Barangay Captain of
Barangay Danlugan. The population increased and additional puroks were created. In the later part of his
administration, the position of Barangay Captain was changed to Punong Barangay in which he was the
first one to be addressed.

By 2007, Punong Barangay Daniel C. Carumba could no longer run in the position and he was
succeeded by Mr. Macario Sepada. During his administration, he continuously aimed to have more
projects, improvement and development of the Barangay.

By 2013, Punong Barangay Macario Sepada was succeeded by Mr. Cesar S. Dacal, Sr. As the
Punong Barangay, he continuously aims to exercise more f=efforts in consideration to acquire more
improvements and development of the Barangay. In the recent Barangay elections, he was reelected as the
Punong Barangay. During his administration, his notable projects were the construction of the extension
building of Barangay Hall and reconstruction of the Health Center.
