beadLOCK Loose Tenon Joinery System


Making the beadLOCK Joint
1. beadLOCK is factory set to center tenon into 3/4"
stock. If an offset joint is desired, insert shim(s)
between the block and plate. 1/32" and 1/16" shims
are provided for this adjustment. 1/2" Guide Block

2. Dry fit parts together and draw a crisp, thin line across 3/8" Guide Block
the center of the joint where tenon is desired.
See Fig. 1. Disassemble parts.

3. Slide guide block to “A” setting. Locate beadLOCK jig Upper slot is used for 1/4" Block
on part and align the jig with your
center line. Clamp jig in place. See Fig. 2. Tip: Your Middle slot is used for 3/8" Block
bench vise works well for securing the jig to the part. Lower slot is used for 1/2" Block
4. Secure work piece before drilling. Using a hand drill,
drill holes in part to desired depth.

5. Loosen thumbscrews on jig and slide guide block to


“B” position. Snug thumbscrews tightly.

6. Drill holes to desired depth as in step 4.

7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for second part.

8. Cut length of tenon stock 1/8" shorter than total mortise


depth of both parts and glue together.

Tips for Best Results

• A slower feed rate on “B” setting will yield
cleaner mortises.
• For a cleaner mortise, drillholes in position “A” a
second time before unclamping the jig. This will
remove any remaining wood chips. Setting “A”

• Coat both tenon and mortise with glue prior to


assembly for maximum strength.
• On large, assemblies, glue the loose tenon into
one piece of stock first. This will reduce the num-
ber of parts handled when gluing up.
• Use sharp, conventional twist drill bits for best Align to
results. Dull or improperly sharpened bits may center line
drill oversized mortise.

• Store tenon stock in an air tight container to
prevent expansion.
• For very thick parts, make your own shims out of
scrap wood or plywood.
