For the passage of a hydroelectric power plant project required the construction of the various
materials used for the smooth construction of a power plant including the quarry. Quarry is a
material or materials used for building construction. The Consultant has been calculated for
material quarry needed for structures construction of the Masang II Hydropower project,
approximately 61.377 m3.
The Consultant proposed 3 (three) quarry locations should be surveyed by PT Andalan Rereka
Consulindo (as a services provider). The locations of proposed quarry is shown in Figure bellow :
Under the proposed quarry site requests predetermined, there are three locations quarry to be
checked. The three location are quarry 1 located in Jorong Bateh Sariak near BH1, quarry 2 located
in Jorong Kototinggi near BH6B, and quarry 3 located in Jorong Batubadinding near BH12.

1.2.1. Quarry 1
Quarry 1 located in Jorong Bateh Sariak near BH1, exactly in the side of Batang Sianok River with
0o08’30.94” S latitude and 100o14’ 04,27” E longitude west side of Sianok River Flow. Administra-
tively, this quarry is jurisdicted of the Jorong Bateh Sariak, Nagari Nan Tujuah, Districk Palupuh,
Agam Regency. In mean time, no access road into these locations. The quarry 1 is composed of
limestone rock outcrop. The limestone outcrops have a solid shaped, certain void and layered.
The Limestone has grey on fresh surfaces and mostly weathered to whiteist grey, fine grainsize,
medium compact, bedding, highly weathered, jointed and fractures filled with calcite.
The advantage is that the lithology widely spread in the work area and laid/exposed along rivers
and roadsides. The disadvantage, the lithology is less suitable to be used as the material of quarry
in terms of the properties of rock. Because thickness of soil is very thick, the located of limestone
near the river, and also has a lithological or structural cracked-shape or damaged-shape caused
by the fractures or faults. Fractures on the outcrop are feared to be less good for the foundation
of the building.
The quarry is located in valley, width of this sites still can’t be ensured because limitation of the
outcrops (overlain by tuff), but it has been interpreted that the width won’t exceed 20 m. So the
estimated volume of Quarry 1 is 20 x 3 x 50 m3.

1.2.2. Quarry 2
Quarry 2 located in Jorong Kototinggi near BH6B beside the cliff road of 0o07’45.79” S latitude and
100o12’ 52,45” E longitude. To reach this location, the road is quite difficult to pass. we have to
go through the forest with a varied slope of approximately 2 km. Quarry 2 has an exactly the same
lithology with quarry 1, solid limestone and overlaid by the tuff with thickness ± 25 meters. The
characterization of the limestone is solid shaped, certain void. It also has weathered color of red-
dish brownish grey and fresh color of brownish grey, fine grain size (calcarenite), cohesive hard-
ness, it also contain joints in several part and filled with calcite.
The advantage is that the lithology widely spread in the work area and laid/exposed along rivers
and roadsides. The disadvantage, the lithology is less suitable to be used as the material of quarry
in terms of the properties of rock. Because thickness of the soil is very thick, the located limestone
is near to the river, and also has a lithological or structural cracked-shape or damaged-shape
caused by the fractures or faults. Fractures on the outcrop are feared to be less good for the
foundation of the building.
The quarry is located in valley, width of this sites still can’t be ensured because limitation of the
outcrops (overlain by tuff), but it has been interpreted that the width won’t exceed 50 m. So the
estimated volume of quarry 2 is 23 x 2 x 50 m 3.

1.2.3. Quarry 3
The quarry located in Jorong Batubadinding with 0o 05’ 40.06” S latitude and 100o 11’ 26,45” E
longitude. Quarry 3 is located at downstream of the Sianok River. Accessibility to the location is
quite easy because there is already access road, but there must be a bridge construction, because
of the location of the quarry located at across the river. The quarry 3 is composed of diorite rock

outcrop. Quarry 3’s geometry is interpreted as intrusion besides there is limestone outcrops next
to the diorite outcrops. The diorite rock can be found alongside the Batang Sianok River where
the diorite found cut in the limestone and overlaid by the tuff with thickness ± 2 meters. The
exposed diorite has an approximately 30.144 m2 of volume which assumed by 80 m of diameter
(D) and 6 m of height (h) of the exposed intrusion. The diorite rock is characterized by greyish
weathered color, dark greyish fresh color, hypocrystalline, porphyritic, cohesive hardness, also
jointed in several parts.
The advantage is that the lithology has the characteristics/properties of solid rock as a result of
crystallization of magma and is dominated by quartz which has a well hardness and not easily
eroded.

Based on the identified characteristics of the rocks, the location of the proposed quarry site is
Quarry 3. In terms of the rock type/characteristic, it is recommended because the igneous rock
has well properties to be used as building materials. Besides, it has a special note of volume/re-
serve of these rocks that is uncertain.

Quarry Location
The quarry located in Jorong Batubadinding Selatan with 0o 05’ 40.06” S latitude and 100o 11’
26,45” E longitude. Quarry 3 is located at downstream of the Sianok River. Accessibility to the
location is quite easy because there is already access road, but there must be a bridge construc-
tion. From main road Jl. trans sumatra bukittinggi-padangsidempuan go to Jorong Batubadinding
Selatan, there is access of car until 1 km, then access motorcycle as far as 2.5 km (This road is in
the stage of improvement so that this road can be passed by car). And to reach the location must
pass the bridge.

Petrography Result
Based on petrography analysis of BH 13 sample at 13.5-14.00 meter of depth, name of the lithol-
ogy according to igneous rock classification by Streckeisen (1974) is Granodiorite. The character-
istic is Phaneritic, holocrystalline, hypidiomorphic, intergrowth of textures, subhedral to anhedral
of shapes, 0.01-6.70 mm of grain sizes, perthitic-myrmekitic of textures appeared spotty at k-
feldspar and quartz minerals that grows each other. The composition of minerals consists of k-
feldspar (40%), plagioclase (18%), quartz (25%), muscovite (2%), biotite (5%), opaque mineral
(2%), 1% of additional mineral (zircon, sphene, and apatite). Secondary minerals appeared 7%
that consists of sericite (3%) and kaolinite (4%).
From the result of core drilling, bore hole BH-13 can devided for 4 layers. For the first layer (0 -
2.55 m depth) is silty clay, discontinuity spacing index < 0.02 m, Unconfined Compresive Strength
<1 MPa equivalent with Is50 < 0.04 MPa, so based on Graphic of excavation preferable methods
for rock is easy digging.
For the second layer (2.55 – 6.3 m depth) is diorite rock, discontinuity spacing index = 0.15 – 0.9
m, Unconfined Compresive Strength about 82.3857MPa equivalent with Is50= 34.33 MPa (refer-
ence from BH-13 for 13.5-14m depth), so based on Graphic of excavation preferable methods for
rock is blasting.
For the third layer (6.3 – 9.3 m depth) is sand and gravel, discontinuity spacing index < 0.02 m,
Unconfined Compresive Strength about < 1 MPa equivalent with Is50<0.4 MPa, so based on
Graphic of excavation preferable methods for rock is easy digging.
For the fourth layer (9.3 – 15 m depth) is granodiorite, discontinuity spacing index about 0.1 – 0.5
m, Unconfined Compresive Strength about 82.3857 MPa equivalent with Is50 about 34.33 MPa,
so based on Graphic of excavation preferable methods for rock is extreamely hard ripping - blast-
ing.
