As base of sling arrangement there are basically three type of arrangement which we meet in
practical life.
1 Choker hitch
2 Basket Hitch
3 Bridle Hitch
Before starting studies about these hitch arrangements first I want to discuss some basic rule
which are useful to understanding the arrangement.
When calculating hitch capacities or finding sling size please keeps in mind these two laws.
1 When load is given and you need to find sling size for given load you will divide given
load by factor and answer you will check in sling load chart.
2 When sling size is given then you need hitch capacity then, first check given sling size
in sling load chart in given degree and answer is multiply with factor for that hitch.
(Sling are made of different material and configuration so beware this law is applicable for all type
of slings)
Choker hitch
When load is given we need to find sling size
First of all we divide given load with factor e.g. (for choker hitch factor is .75)
then we found the required sling size which is our sling size
Example:
Solution
9000/.75= 12000 we have answer 12000 we check in sling load chart (for this we use wire rope
sling (6x19 IWRC Fiber Core) specification) in required degree which is 60 we meet between two
value 11400 and 16500 in this case we choose 16500 and for this sling size on load chart is ¾ inch
so our required sling size is ¾ inch.
For example in this figure sling size is 7/8 inch and degree is
Double Basket hitch:
When load is given we need to find sling size
First of all we divide given load with factor e.g. (for Basket hitch factor is 2)
then we found the required sling size which is our sling size
Example:
degree is 45
Solution:_
10000/ 2 = 5000 we have answer 5000 we check in sling load chart (for this we use wire rope sling
(6x19 IWRC Fiber Core) specification) in required degree which is 45 we meet between two value
4500 and 6200 in this case we choose 6200 and for this sling size on load chart is ½ inch so our
required sling size is ½ inch.
configuration.
Bridle hitch:
Bridle hitch are further two categories
a. Flexible load
b. Rigid load.
Flexible Load:
First of all we divide given load with factor (for three leg bridle hitch flexible hitch factor is 1.5)
and then answer get we go to sling load chart and check in given degree
then we found the required sling size which is our sling size
for given load
Example:
degree is 60
Solution:_
11000 / 1.5 = 7333 we have answer 7333 we check in sling load chart (for this we use wire rope
sling (6x19 IWRC Fiber Core) specification) in required degree which is 60 we meet between two
value 5500 and 7600 in this case we choose 7600 and for this sling size on load chart is ½ inch so
our required sling size is ½ inch.
For example in this figure sling size is 5/8 inch and degree is
