Introduction

Every person's existence depends on romantic relationships. This is

due to the wide range of advantages they provide. Relationships allow us
to share our lives with friends, family, and those who can lend a helping
hand when we're in need. Our ability to think, feel emotionally secure, and
even survive as humans depends on the relationships we form with others.
To connect and establish connections, people have a natural need to be
close to one another.

Since romantic relationships typically start when students are in their

adolescent years, we try to understand the variables that could influence
our choice to establish a relationship and further explain how it affects our
lives. This should provide pupils with a general idea of the subject and
provide them with a foundation for making decisions. As a result, school life
will be more effective and productive.

Hopkins (2019) asserts that relationships can offer the essential

emotional support required for a student to manage the demands of school
and/or employment. But juggling a committed, loving relationship with
obligations related to school and work can frequently result in role conflicts.
According to Cheata (2011), a relationship's quality might vary depending
on the individuals involved. This study learns more about how relationships
affect our ability to make decisions and the actual advantages they provide
for students. According to research by Homan (1961), people weigh the
benefits and drawbacks of a relationship or action, either consciously or
unconsciously, with the ultimate goal of maximizing their reward.

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this study is to determine the advantages and
disadvantages of romantic relationships, such as crushes and love lives.
Our goal is to identify the potential factors that may contribute to how
romantic relationships negatively or positively affect students. Specifically,
the research aimed to answer the following questions:

1. At what age does love life usually start and why?

2. What are the experiences students have before and after entering a
relationship?

3. What happens to their performance if a problem occurs in their

relationship such as a breakup?

Significance of the Study

The result of this study will be beneficial to the following:

To Teachers: Through the completion of this study, we can explain this
phenomenon to teachers and aid them in comprehending the various
elements that influence student performance. This will enable them to
develop fresh teaching methods and improve student management for
more effective knowledge transfer.
To Students: This study will help students know the effects of relationships
and may serve as a heads-up before they enter this kind of situation. It will
help students assess the situation more clearly before investing time and
focusing on relationships as they can be the most impactful in our lives.
To Future Researchers: Since relationships play a major role in every
person's life, this study will be helpful to future researchers who want to
understand what elements influence student’s academic performance when
they are studying. This can be used as the basis for an explanation of how
romantic relationships impact student’s academic achievement.
Scope and Limitations
The exploration of a romantic connection and its impact on grade 11
HUMSS students enrolled in SCC in the school year 2022-2023 is the main
goal of this study. Given that this phenomenon typically occurs before and
during adolescence, our participants range from ages 16 to 18 to offer
sufficient knowledge and expertise on this particular topic.

Theoretical Framework

In this study, we will use the Theory of Salient and Emerging

Developmental Tasks in the Transition to Adulthood. This theory discusses
developmental task theory in the young adult years, noting the importance
of integrating behavioral and biological research with the study of
developmental context, as well as the concept of emerging adulthood as a
distinct developmental period and its implications for young adult mental
health. It also states that while romantic relationships can play a positive
role in youth development (Furman, Low, & Ho, 2009), for many youths,
adolescent romantic relationships are an emerging, and not a salient,
developmental task (Roisman, Masten, Coatsworth, & Tellegen, 2004). As
an emerging task, these relationships serve as an important domain to
explore and gain experience (Roisman et al., 2004). This study will help
students to use their physical, emotional, and social behavior appropriately
by analyzing and studying our research to help boost their capacity to think
intellectually and emotionally.

Methodology

This study will make use of several research procedures that will be
employed to gather specific information or data which will be used to fit,
qualify, and prove this study; thus, this chapter will comprise the research
design, the locale of the study, respondents of the study, research
instrument, the data collection procedure, and data analysis procedure.

Research Design
This study will make use of a qualitative research design, specifically
a phenomenology study design. This will be used to determine the actual
reasons why romantic relationship happens and their effects on students.
Moreover, the researchers will gather data to supply information and
support the related study.

Locale of the Study

This study will be conducted at Southern Christian College located at

Poblacion 5, Midsayap, Cotabato.

Participants of the Study

The respondents of this study are the grade 11 students studying in

SCC. The participants will be selected through quota sampling.

Research Instruments

This study will be using a guide question in gathering information

about the respondents of the said study.
Data Gathering Procedure

Since we are now having a face-to-face class, the researchers will

gather the required data for the supposed study personally by doing a
semi-structured interview to make sure the accuracy of the research data.

Data Analysis
The data gathered in this study will be analyzed using qualitative
analysis to directly address and interpret the statements of the respondents
that are acquired from questions answerable to what and why. These will
make sure that the study data reflects the respondents’ thoughts, feelings,
attitudes, or views and its relevance on our research study.
