1.6. Description of the GRID SIMULATOR system:

This system consists of two back-to-back connected 3-ph Inverters. One Inverter is
connected to input Grid through LCL filter. This will be operated as Front-end Converter
(FEC or Grid side Converter) which will regulate the DC link voltage at the desired value
set. Other Inverter is connected to the output Transformer through LC filter. This will be
operated as Grid forming Inverter (stand-alone inverter or Load side Inverter) and we can
connect the load at the output terminals. The output transformer is combination of three
1-ph transformers whose primary side neutrals are shorted to each other. The secondary
side of the transformers are separately terminated at the output. The FEC can support the
power flow (regeneration) back to grid if the load side inverter is connected to any Grid
tied inverter which can generate the power.

2.2 Insulation Checks

➢ Insulation checks are to be done before connecting the Grid Simulator system to
the mains. Before proceeding with the insulation resistance measurements, make
sure that the Grid Simulator system is disconnected from the mains.
➢ Check the Mains & Output cables are disconnected from the Grid Simulator
Panel.
➢ Measure the insulation resistance of the motor. The value of the insulation
resistance between panel and the Main terminals must be greater than 1MΩ.

2.3 WIRING

➢ This unit contains high voltage capacitors. Disconnect the power supply and wait
for a minimum period of 5 Min before making any connections/wiring.
➢ Do not connect a voltage higher than 10% of the rated voltage of the system.
➢ The system must be earthed through an earthing conductor to the earthing
terminals.
➢ The main supply line, battery supply line and the control supply lines should be
run in separate cables. To avoid interference, it is advisable to use shielded cable
for the electronic signal control lines. The shield should be connected to the earth
at the inverter end only.

Input & Output cable specification:

1. Input power cables, 16A, 3-core – 10 Sq mm

2. Output power cables with neutral, 16A, 4-core – 10 Sq mm
3. Earthing cable (Yellow with Green), 1-core – 6 Sq mm

MAINS CONNECTIONS
➢ Connections of the AC Mains to the system is made at the terminal block as per below
figure.
➢ The system should be connected to the AC Mains via an isolator or contactor and a
MCB/MCCB.
➢ All the contactor coils, solenoids and brake coils (outside the panel if any) should be
suppressed with an RC network or equivalent suppressor circuit.
➢ Connect the load at the load terminals as per terminal connection drawing.

3.2 PARAMETER DESCRIPTION:

A three level organization is used for parameter storage, consisting of

PAGES, MODES & SUBMODES. All functionally related parameters are grouped in
one page. These pages are again subdivided into modes and sub modes based
on their dependencies. And the last level is the parameter level, from where it is
possible to change the value of the parameter.

MOVING INSIDE THE MENU

Four keys (ENTER, ESC, INC, DEC) are used for moving inside the menu.

1.ENTER key is used in going from a parent level to its sublevel i.e.,

a) Page to Mode (or)

b) Mode to Sub mode (or)
c) Sub mode to Parameter level in order to change parameter value

2.ESC key can be used to come out from a sub level to its parent level i.e.,

a) Parameter level to Sub mode (or)
