GRID SIMULATOR PANEL
➢ This package consists of Grid Simulator Control Panel, Input and Output cables &
Opal-RT interface cables.
➢ The DC bus capacitors contain high DC voltages. After disconnecting the supply wait for
at-least 60 seconds, and then carry out any work within the Drive. Only a competent
Electrician should carry out the electrical installation.
➢ When the mains supply is on to the panel, do not make/change any connections.
Disconnect the mains to the control panel before altering the terminal connections.
Failure to disconnect the mains may cause serious injury.
➢ Altering the parameter settings or configuration will affect the function and
performance of the individual converters and also overall system.
➢ Make sure that the Grid Simulator Panel is earthed properly.
➢ Static voltage can damage electronic components. Avoid touching any of the components
within the Drive.

1.5 PROTECTIONS:
➢ Dynamic short circuit protection.
➢ DC bus over voltage protection
➢ Over current protection
➢ Heat sink over temperature protection
This system consists of two back-to-back connected 3-ph Inverters. One Inverter is
connected to input Grid through LCL filter. This will be operated as Front-end Converter
(FEC or Grid side Converter) which will regulate the DC link voltage at the desired value
set. Other Inverter is connected to the output Transformer through LC filter. This will be
operated as Grid forming Inverter (stand-alone inverter or Load side Inverter) and we can
connect the load at the output terminals. The output transformer is combination of three
1-ph transformers whose primary side neutrals are shorted to each other. The secondary
side of the transformers are separately terminated at the output. The FEC can support the
power flow (regeneration) back to grid if the load side inverter is connected to any Grid
tied inverter which can generate the power.

➢ Insulation checks are to be done before connecting the Grid Simulator system to
the mains. Before proceeding with the insulation resistance measurements, make
sure that the Grid Simulator system is disconnected from the mains.
➢ Check the Mains & Output cables are disconnected from the Grid Simulator
Panel.
➢ Measure the insulation resistance of the motor. The value of the insulation
resistance between panel and the Main terminals must be greater than 1MΩ.
2.3 WIRING
➢ This unit contains high voltage capacitors. Disconnect the power supply and wait
for a minimum period of 5 Min before making any connections/wiring.
➢ Do not connect a voltage higher than 10% of the rated voltage of the system.
➢ The system must be earthed through an earthing conductor to the earthing
terminals.
➢ The main supply line, battery supply line and the control supply lines should be
run in separate cables. To avoid interference, it is advisable to use shielded cable
for the electronic signal control lines. The shield should be connected to the earth
at the inverter end only.

MAINS CONNECTIONS
➢ Connections of the AC Mains to the system is made at the terminal block as per below
figure.
➢ The system should be connected to the AC Mains via an isolator or contactor and a
MCB/MCCB.
➢ All the contactor coils, solenoids and brake coils (outside the panel if any) should be
suppressed with an RC network or equivalent suppressor circuit.
➢ Connect the load at the load terminals as per terminal connection drawing.

➢ Verify DC link volt ref parameter in Frequent Modes page (in FEC Keypad)
which should be 650 VDC. Press the ESC button (to show the normal display)
and press SAVE button.
➢ Press the START/STOP button on the FEC display. With this, the DC bus voltage
will boost to 650 V and is maintained there.
➢ Verify MI ref (in INV keypad) parameter in Frequent Mode page, which should
be 95%. Press the ESC (to show the normal display) and press and SAVE button.
➢ Press the START/STOP button on the INV keypad. With this, INVERTER will
generate the output voltage.
➢ To see the output voltages at the output terminals, press the output contactor ON
push button on the front door. With this, contactor C4, C5 & C6 will turn ON. If
any contactor is not turned ON, check the toggle switch position & turn on.
➢ Since output is having three 1-Ph transformers, to make it 3-Ph output, we need to
short the U-N, V-N & W-N terminals as shown in below and check the line
voltage between U, V & W terminals.
