Clinical Significance:
Mumps is a viral infection caused by paramyxovirus that primarily affects saliva-producing (salivary) glands that are located near ears.
Mumps can cause swelling in one or both of those glands. Signs and symptoms of mumps may include:
1. Pain in the swollen salivary glands on one or both sides of your face
2. Pain while chewing or swallowing
It spreads easily from person to person through infected saliva. If individual is not immune, they can contract mumps by breathing in
