A Personal Worldview Based On "Planet in Distress" by Scott Christiansen

This document discusses a personal worldview based on the book "Planet in Distress" by Scott Christiansen. The author argues that Christian prophecies from the Bible are coming true as seen by the declining health of the planet and deterioration of environmental and social systems. While the book does not discuss scientific reasons for these declines, it links them to the effects of sin according to Christian teachings. The author believes that problems everywhere on Earth like disasters, declining resources, and pandemics like COVID-19 support the argument that the planet is in distress as the Bible predicted.

A personal worldview based on “Planet in Distress” by Scott Christiansen

Introduction:
‘Nothing is permanent except change’ this is how they defend the change we see
in our surroundings, the world around us is changing rapidly since forever, our
ancestors must have felt the same way and they also had that insecurity of
extinction, and the fear of death, fear of god’s seizure, fear of being deceived by
Satan.
Life is a war, war of survival. No! That’s not me who am declaring the world as a
battlefield but it was Christ himself. As holy Christ said in his prophecy “Wars and
rumors of wars”, (Metthew) the life which we are living and the life which we see
in our future is always under a threat, under an uncertainty.
There are thousands of ideologies in the world, people follow these ideologies,
they believe in them and belief is something which is beyond the logical
explanations. They have made some sort of levels and standards in the name of
their belief, and those who fulfill the conditions of their standards get rewarded
and those who go against those standards they’ll face the consequences. And
this act of going against some specific ideology is called ‘sin’.
As newton said every action has its equal reaction, exactly that is how every
religion explains its actions, every sin has its reaction.
We have got only one planet to live on, Earth. We own it, we call it mother. It is
said that our earth is 4.543 billion years old and we humans have been living
here around six million years, though we changed our size and appearance and
took almost four million years to be like this as we see ourselves today. The
world we see today is civilized and well decorated. We shaped it like this around
six thousand years ago. And the rapid growth we are seeing today, facilitating
ourselves with advanced products in this age of industrialization, started from the
1800s. This is where things started getting odd.
We and our Distresses
Scott Christiansen has argued on some prophecies presented in the Bible in his
book “Planet in distress. Environmental Deterioration and the great controversy”.
He sees the biblical prophecies coming true. The declining of earth’s systems
and the society’s values are closely related with the predictions of the Bible.
(Christiansen)
However the book does not talk about the scientific and logical reasons of
declining the globe but it talks about the Christian beliefs which are developed by
Bible’s teachings. Christianstiansen said in an interview that “it is amazing how
closely the effects of those declines line up with biblical prophecy.” (Christiansen)
According to the Christianity a sin is like a poison. It affects you anyhow, whether
you take it knowingly or unknowingly. It not only affects your soul, but it affects
the physical world too.
Today we are facing problems everywhere on the earth, there is not a single
location which is free from disasters including our oceans, atmosphere, food
production, and freshwater. And the global system which is interconnected with
each other through oil, finance and the concept of complex society.
An average religious man believes that apart from logical reasons there are
some reasons which cannot not be seen but those reasons only can be feel as
Mr. Christiansen says in one of his blog that “the decline of the physical systems
of the earth is rooted in sin” (Christiansen S. )
Here is Matthew 24:6-8: “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars.  See that
you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not
yet.  For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  And there
will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the
beginning of sorrows.” (NKJV) (Christiansen)
The data of the book sheds light on the breakdown of manmade systems caused
by their unsustainable practices. God has warned us about the results for the
actions we take, promises we make, our mismanagement and failure in handling
our own created systems. It might be a signal from God.
The current pandemic position of Covid19 has not ended yet, though today the
human is living on the edge of medical and technology. In Spite of all this we are
still not able to make all these deaths stop. This virus has taken around 5.23
million lives till today. According to a survey almost 25,000 people lose this war
of life per day because they do not get enough food to fight and on the other 1.3
billion tons of food is wasted in a year. (wikipedia)
The conditions we are living in, the threats are being warned are closely related
each other. For many people's religion prophecies may not be a worth believing
things but will they be able to explain things by their logic? Are they able to make
this planet safe from mass destruction, climate change, and starvation?
