Jesus told a parable about putting new wine in old wineskins to teach people not to cling rigidly to traditions and customs. He had begun his ministry facing contradiction for trying to change traditions. The parable's message was that if one's heart and mind are not open to God's new challenges and missions, they will remain rigid and closed off like old wineskins. To receive the gospel, one must keep an open mind and heart instead of being too strict or hardened in one's ways.

Luke 5:33-39
The skins referred to by
the Lord Jesus were the vessels or bags of wine, they were made of cow skin at that time. When the skin of wineskins is old, it becomes rigid and inflexible so it bursts. Jesus began his ministry of teaching on this earth. He was with a lot of contradiction and reproach for trying to change the traditions and customs, but instead of starting a debate, he began teaching figure of speeches in order to delineate his point. So, this is the point of what Jesus said about the parable he taught; when your heart and brain are not open to what God surprises in a new challenge in our life and a new mission that has been given to us by him. If you're not open and you're being rigid, you know what are the rights and wrongs, you know what would you do in the situations where you are in, and nothing would open up your mind or heart to a person if you are too strict or your heart and brain were hard. This kind of hardiness and rigidity is the enemy of the new news that was given by the gospel. In receiving and reading the gospel, we should accept it with being our minds and hearts open. Don't be rigid and be happy instead.
