Grammar Focus Yes/No Questions with Present Simple

Level Intermediate

ACTIVITY NOTES My Notes

Part 1 (listen and write)

Distribute the handout (page 1) to your
students, and then dictate the
questions on page 2. Make sure your
students understand that, for many of
the questions, there may be two
possible answers (for example, Q: “Do
you usually eat breakfast? A: “Yes, I
do,” or “No, I don’t.”)

Part 2
Distribute page 2 (one half to each
student) so they can check their
answers.

Part 3 (listen and speak)

After they check their answers, have
your students seated together with a
partner. Assign one student to be a
‘teacher’ who will read the questions to
his/her classmate (‘student’), while the
classmate answers the questions
verbally (make sure the ‘student’ does
not look at the Answer sheet.) When
finished, have them switch roles, and
continue.
