Importance of the IELTS

When we talk about immigration to western people, the first topic that they bring up
is the IELTS test. Most people who have immigrated to western countries are familiar
with it, however, others do not. Therefore, I am here to share with you the importance of
the IELTS test.
Firstly, we will address what the IELTS test is. IELTS, or the International English
Language Testing System, is an international English language proficiency test for
those who grew up without English as their native language. This test, compared to
other English language tests, is accepted in more countries, including the United
Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United States. It is a
requirement to achieve permanent residency. In addition to that, it is also accepted by
over 11000 organizations, such as universities, companies, and immigration agencies,
across 140 countries. Universities and colleges will take a look at our IELTS result
during admission period.
Most high school students consider pursuing a university degree after graduation.
It is safe to say that many of them, including myself, are interested in chasing our goals
and dreams in foreign countries. The reason could be because some regions have
better educational system, job offers or just better quality of life. So students who plan to
travel abroad need a study visa, which is why; the IELTS test is one of the steps to that
visa approval.
The test also helps you to set clear goals and acts as a form of motivation. The
rubric of the test is clearly constructed, and this would encourage you to study hard on a
daily basis. Such actions could possibly help you improve your communication, writing,
and comprehension skills.
In order to get a high score in the IELTS test, you need to know the
fundamentals of English to a certain level. The average test score is between 6.5 to 8.
Schools require an IELTS total score of 7.0 band with section scores of 6.5 band An
overall score of 6.0 is considered to be “competent.” A 7.0 overall score is “good” and a
8.0 is “very good.” If you get an overall score of 9.0, you are considered to be an “expert
user.” People who score below 6.0 might still have a chance to go study abroad
because you will still be given the chance to practice on your English.
Tests can be taken digitally or on paper. However, I recommend to take it
digitally because it’ll save you more time with writing and it’s system also shows you the
word count. Each test costs around $200 so make sure that you are ready before taking
it.
Overall, IELTS is essential because not only does it help you with your
immigration process, it also helps determine your English skills. You would be able to
prove to international schools how good you are with the English language. You’d also
get to know what level you’re at and focus on what needs improvement, whether it be
writing, reading, listening, or speaking.
