Any company, large or small, needs a system to gather, process, store, and distribute data. These
chores used to take a lot of time and paperwork. Modern technology is now used by businesses
to streamline and automate these processes. Data processing and decision-making have become
more dependent on information systems. They can have a favorable impact on an organization's
overall performance and income when applied correctly.
Keeping in mind the advantages of information system, you need to identify the major areas of
information system and the operations performed by the areas.

Roles and areas of Information Systems Operations performed by the areas


Purchase Purchase the needs of the goods and services
organization, contract management, delivery
management, and deal with any complaint.
Sales Evaluate and evaluate sales data to determine
product effectiveness, marketing process, or
campaign.
Database Improved stored and backed data to maximize
data across the organization.
Payroll Payroll refers to the process by which
employees receive their pay.
Human Resource Management Management, recruitment, job analysis and
personnel management services.
Transport Track and manage all aspects of vehicle
maintenance, fuel cost and mapping,
inventory storage, communications, EDI
implementation, asset management and
inventory management, and accounting.
Research A problem-solving analysis and decision-
making approach that is useful for
management or organization.
Marketing Campaign planning and annual strategic
planning activities. Other responsibilities
include technology, performance
measurement, reporting, and analysis.
Production The process transforms an organization's
input /service into final goods and services
through a set of defined controlled and
duplicate policies.
Telecommunication Network availability and error management.

An organization's management system can be classified as "open" or "closed." Closed systems
operate on their own with little or no effect from the outside world, whereas Open systems
interact with other systems through the free flow of information.
Here is the table in which different operations are mentioned normally take place in any
organization on daily basis. So, you need to identify which operation is Open or Closed system
in terms of the nature of the operation.
