LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Learn/ revise words related to jobs and chores
2. Ask and answer questions about chores they do at home
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Teacher writes the word jobs on the board. Teacher puts the
students into pairs and asks them to make a list of all the jobs they
know. Teacher sets a time limit of 2 minutes. Listen to their ideas
as a class and make a list of jobs on the board. The pair with the
most correct words wins.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity 1 (SB page 62)
1. Teacher explains the word chore (an ordinary job that
must be done regularly, eg. Washing up)
2. Teacher read text. Students repeat the words chorally and
individually. Make sure they pronounce the words
correctly with the correct stress, especially ironing.
3. Students discuss their answers to the questions. Teacher
listens to their ideas as a class.
Activity 2(SB page 62)
1. Students work individually and use words from exercise 1
to complete the adverts on the Community notice board.
They answer the question.
Activity 3(SB page 62)
1. Teacher nominates two students to read aloud the
example question and answer. Teacher puts students into
pairs. They ask and answer questions about the chores
they do. Teacher listens to some pairs as a class.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Read an online message board.
2. Read for gist and for specific information.
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Teacher writes the word money on the board. Teacher sets a time
limit of two minutes for them to make a list of money that is used
in different countries. Teacher listens to their ideas as a class and
makes a list on the board: (euro, pound, dollar, peso)
LESSON DELIVERY Activity 1 (SB page 63)
1. Teacher explains the task. Teacher checks students
understand the question. Teacher points out that this
exercise gives students practice in getting the gist (general
idea) of a text from listening to it for general meaning
and / or reading it quickly.
2. Teacher read the text. Students listen and follow the text
in their books. Teacher checks the answer as a class and
highlight the information in the Did you know? box.

1. Students read the questions carefully first. They read the
questions carefully first. They read the text again and find
the answers. They note down the answers in their
notebooks.
2. Students compare answers in GC. Teacher check answers
as a class.

them to tell you a sport beginning with a random letter,
e.g. b. The first team to give a correct word, e.g. basketball,
gets a point. Teacher continues with other letters of the
alphabet.

1. Students choose an urban sport.
2. Teacher asks students to open an internet web browser
and type in the name of their urban sport. Students find as
much information as they can, bookmarking relevant web
pages and taking notes.
3. Students work in pairs and swap their facts with their
partner. Teacher asks some pairs to report back to the
class.
POST LESSON Teacher focuses on the pronunciation and meaning of other
vocabulary in the text, e.g. exciting, spare time. Use a board
drawing to illustrate the meaning of over walls and down steps.
