WHAT IS ENGINEER?

WHAT IS ENGINEER?
• Engineer, derived from the word "hendese" which
means "geometry" in Arabic.
Definition used in the TDK dictionary:
•A person who has taken a certain engineering
education and specialized in technical and social
fields based on meeting all needs of people such as
agriculture, nutrition; science such as physics,
chemistry, biology, electricity, electronics, aircraft,
automobiles, engines, etc.
• Engineer uses science, math and economics to solve
technical problems faced by society.
• Unlike scientists, the engineer has to consider the cost of
the solution he/she produces.
• Good engineering solution should be useful, economical
and creative.
ENGINEER'S QUALIFICATIONS
• The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and
engineering
• The ability to design and conduct experiments and to analyze
and interpret experimental results
• Ability to design a system, part or process to meet the desired
requirements
• The ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
• The ability to define, formulate and solve engineering
problems
• Awareness of professional and ethical responsibility
ENGINEER'S QUALIFICATIONS

• The ability to communicate effectively in English and Turkish


• Extensive training required to understand the universal and
social effects of engineering solutions
• Awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning
• Information about the problems of the current period
• Ability to use techniques, skills and modern tools necessary
for engineering practice
ENGINEERING CATEGORIES

• Research engineers: work to find solutions to difficult


problems. As a result of the work done, new knowledge is
produced. Research engineering requires a good
education, inquiry, critical perspective, research skills and
curiosity.

• Development engineers: use existing or newly


acquired knowledge to develop a new product or
method / process.

• Design engineers: work to make prototypes produced as a


result of research and development work into common
products. They pay special attention to ease of use, safety,
affordability and attractiveness.

• Production engineers: responsible for planning the


production line and executing the plans in a workplace. It
is the responsibility of these engineers to make available
the necessary raw materials in production.

• Test engineers: test whether the manufactured products


are of the targeted quality and reliability. They must have
knowledge of standards and measurement methods.

• Plant engineers: They are responsible for the operation of


production facilities in places such as factories. They must
have planning skills and quick decision-making skills.
They must be skilled in human relations.

They must have technical knowledge about products, know
the market economy, and be skilled in human relations..
