Indicates ELECTRICAL VOLTAGE, which could cause death upon ‘contact, Covers with this symbol can be removed and replaced by ‘qualified people and only after disconnecting electrical power, Indicates thatthe instrument uses reagents and other DANGEROUS CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES, corrosive, istating or noxious, which could cause health damages. Indicates that the instrument handles potentially infectious sumples, ‘which could cause INFECTION/CONTAMINATION, Always observe the general safety standard rules while handling these biological substances. Wear protective goggles, gloves and clothing. Indiates that not following the correct instructions could eause damage to the instrumest and/or its proper functioning Indicates important information conceming the instrument or a section ofthe documeat that is important to read with particular attention, qe be PPE 1.2 Instrument Working Conditions “The electrolyte analyzer is intended tobe used in the following working conditions: ‘©The instrument must be fise from dust, mechanical vibrations, loud noises and electrical imterference. Avoid placing te instrument in direct sunlight or infront of a source of heat or deals + Useas In Vito Diagnostic (IVD) medical dovie as specified in the technical data + Use ofthe chemical reagents and accessories supplied and/or declared to be compatible ‘ith the instrument ‘© Working at S40. ane humidity level according to the given in this User's Manual ‘© Do not install the instrument i a potentially explosive or fre hazardous environment {© Power lor this instrument should be ACTO0-240V and SO/6OH2. + Properly grounded The instrument has to be used as described in this Manual. Any other wse is a (EF regarded as inappropriate 1.3 Intended Use of the Instrument The clecrolyte analyzer has to be used forthe expected purpose and in perfect technical ‘working conditions, by qualified personal under the following maintenance operations +A Qualified User hus to make sure that the environment conditions ae suitable, the Installation is correct, the use snd maintenance are proper according tothe general safety rules as well a5 to particular precautions as desribed in the manual although he ot she is not entiled to repair the instrument. ‘+ A Qualified Technicians/Service Engineer is ented to service and fix the instrument with original spare pars as pr the instructions. “Modifications in the instrument are no owed, The user is able and responsible for any improper modifications and forthe consequences deriving frm there. For extraordinary maintenaee, ask for licensed service centers. Specialized TechnieinsServie Engineers who will be able 1 fx the istument using origin spore parts wil carry ut the maintenance: Auto Becuoiyie Analyzer User's Manual Section 2: Description of the Instrument 2.1 measuring and calibration theory ‘The operation of jon solectve clostrodesISE) is based on the fact that there is a linear relationship between the electrical potential developed between an ISE and a reference ‘leczode immersed in the same solution, and the Logarithm of the activity (or “effective ff the ions in the solution. This relationship is described by the Nemst ‘equation: E= E+ (2303RT/ a) x Log(a) Where E = the total potential (in mV) developed between the sensing and reference cleetrodes. BY = isa constant which is characteristic ofthe particular ISB/reference pair (tis the sum of al the liquid junction potentials in the electrochemical cell) 2.303 = the eonversion factor from natural to basel0 logarithm, R = the Gas Constant (8.314 joules(degree/mole), “T= the Absolute Temperature ‘n= the charge on the ion (with sign + o 3) the Faraday Constant (96,500 coulombs per moe) Note that 2308RTinF is the Slope(S) of the line snd this is an important disgnostc caractristc of the electrode - generally the slope gets lower as the leeirode gets old ot contaminated and the lower the slope the higher the errors on the sample measurements» eg at $=55, a ImV error in reading will make about a 4% difference in concentration; at S=26 the diffrence will be more like 8%. Because of the logarithmic relationship, the slope ean ‘most eaily be determined asthe difference between the voltages measured in two solutions ‘which difer by one order of magnitude ~ usually expressed as mVidecade. The theortial value for the slope at 25°C is $9.2 for mono-valet ions and 29.6 for divalent fons ~ but in practice these can vary considerably. The eritcl factor isnot so much the actual value of the slope but that this should be as high as possible and remain constant over the range of ‘concentrations andthe time period required for the analyses. “The activity of an ion in solution i a measure ofthe numberof ons taking part in any given reaction, inthis case those iterating with the ISE membrane. tis always less than the ‘actual number of fons present in the solution (i.e, concentration) because the mobility ofthe ‘ons is reduced bythe presence of other ions inthe solution. The higher the eoncenraton of ‘ther ions, whether the same oF different from the species being measured, (i. the Tonic Strength ofthe solution) then the stronger is this rtarding effet and the greater the difference between activity and concentration. However, it must be noted that in dilte solutions with low lonic Strength this difference is small and ean be ignored in many proctical apliations ie. the calibration can be made and sample reslts calculated using the more convenient ‘concentration units “TOs test using the pressure method: HCOs"HT'-H,04CO, 1 ue ‘Auto lectoiyte Analyzer Users Manat 2.2 Front View: |, LED display: The screen is 240x128 dots LED touch screen and displays user defined information and test results 2, Printer: a 58mm, fast and low noise inbuilt Thermal Printer is located om the top of 3, Sample aspirate probe: The sample aspirate probes have two probes (one for ion and the tothe for TCO:) which automatically aspirate test samples. 4.
