Z=2A + 4B
4A + 6B ≥ 120
2A + 6B ≥ 72
B ≥ 10
Minimize Z= 2A + 4B 70
Constraints,
4A + 6B ≥ 120 120
2A + 6B ≥ 90 72
B ≥ 10 10
A= 15
B= 10

Product
X
Machine Type X1 2 X3
Milling machine 8 2 3
Lathe 4 3 0
Grinder 2 0 1
Unit profits
X1 $ 20.00
X2 $ 6.00
X3 $ 8.00
a)
Unit profits for X1, X2 and X3 is $20, $6 and $8
Constraints,
Available time for the machines,
Milling
machine 8X1+2X2+3X3 ≤800
Lathe 4X1+3X2≤480
Grinder 2X1+X3≤320
b) and c)

Using excel solver, we got
Variables
X1 45
X2 100
X3 80
Maximize
profit
Z= 2140
Constraints,
Milling
machine 800 ≤ 800
Lathe 480 ≤ 480
Grinder 170 ≤ 320
X3 80 ≤ 80

Using excel solver we got the following :
Variable X1 X2 X3 Total
45 180 80 2140
d)
Hence Milling machine and Lathe is working at maximum capacity but the grinder is at low capacity.
e)
From the sensitivity report, we can see that milling machine has an allowable increase in
hours upto 400. The shadow price is $2.25 in the sensitivity report and it is more than the
increment cost $1.50 in the question.
Hence, since the shadow cost is more than the increment cost, additional 200 hours of
overtime will increase the profit and this solution can be accepted.
