I. STRATEGIES USED FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT OF WAWA DAM

There are many strategies to do in order to develop the Wawa Dam, but our group

chose Focus Strategy as our method and way of development in the area. Wawa

Dam has become a popular tourist attraction for people living in Montalban Rizal and

other nearby areas, and this summer a lot of tourists went there to swim, have photo

shoots, and have fun, so we can say that Wawa Dam is well-known but not yet

developed. The Wawa dam has already been slightly damaged as a result of the large

number of people who visited; we can see a lot of garbage in every area, as well as

some destroyed plants and trees.

As a result, in order to avoid being completely destroyed, we chose the Focus

approach as our method of development since we want Wawa Dam to concentrate to

a specific target market. We want to focus on attracting a small number of tourists that

that is responsible of taking care of tourists and have the ability to follow rules and

policy that is being implemented in the area.

We chose also chose Differentiation Strategy for The Wawa Dam, since we believe

there a lot of improvement and renovation that must be done in the area. Nowadays

Wawa dam was an abandoned reservoir mostly frequented by hikers as the site lies

between Mount Pamitinan and Mount Binacayan. Local tourists, climbers and other

people coming from different cities visit the place for picnics, sightseeing,

mountaineering and even filming, especially in summer. Our group want to make sure

that tourists who will go to the area will be satisfied that’s why developing many

facilities like clean bathroom, proper cottage, and a safe area for tourists, we also

focus on establishing many accommodations for tourists to stay in during their

vacation in Wawa Dam.

It is also best known as the starting point for hikes to Mt. Pamitinan or Mt. Binacayan

so that we want to provide a professional person who will seminar hikers about their

safety and security when they are hiking on the mountains, we will also provide safety

gears and equipments for them. However, if you are not a fan of mountain trekking,

you can enjoy the picnic spots and scenery of Wawa Dam with your family and friends,

therefore we will make sure to keep the water clean and safe by providing a lot of

trashcans around the area.

We believe that with the support of this strategy, the natural resources in Wawa Dam

will be preserved and protected, as well as Wawa Dam will become more developed

and improved in terms of having an excellent natural attraction and having responsible

tourists who will take care for the area.

These given factors have the potential to be an asset against competitors.

Producing and selling goods from a certain location is beneficial not only

economically. The majority of the products they produce are organic, meaning,

they don't use a lot of pesticides and only utilize natural fertilizers. Malunggay

powder, Saluyot, and Ginger tea (Salabat) are just a feel examples of unique

products. Therefore, Wawa Dam is surrounded by such breathtaking views that

you would never guess it exists. So, the Dam authorities established rock climbing

activities in a specific area of the dam to increase the number of visitors entering

and to expand the activities available besides swimming. Advantage that can be

considered if you will have technological advancement because most tourists now

inquire thru online. For example, websites, Facebook pages, and emails. Lastly,

the managers of Wawa Dam are now undertaking several projects that address

the waste management of the area because if it is not done promptly, it is possible

that it will affect the image and popularity of the dam.

There are an increasing number of resorts near Wawa Dam, and it is possible for

them to become competitors in the near future. Because the distance between the

dam and the nearest resort is only 3 to 5 kilometers when measured

geographically. Apart from that, these resorts offer a modern architectural design

that attracts tourists. The Ecotourism like Wawa dam is only seasonally crowded

by tourists and mostly every summer unlike modernized resorts it is more

convenient to go because in urban areas like Metro Manila there are many resorts

scattered and moreover, the travel time from metro manila to Rodriguez, Rizal

where the Wawa dam is located, it approximately 26km to 32.5km which in fact is

far and also tiring if the tourist is just committing. In Addition, maybe we are aware

of the status of Climate Change not only here in our country but it affects

internationally particular in the tourism industry because climate change affects the

quality of the experience due to weather fluctuations such heat waves and heavy

rainfall.
