The author's purpose for writing about the events in Chapter 39 of Noli Me Tangere was
to illustrate the power of love and loyalty. The chapter focuses on the relationship
between Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara, and how their love for each other is strong
enough to overcome any obstacle. The chapter also highlights the loyalty of Elias, who is

8. What connections can you make between the events in this chapter and
a. events happening in society/country?
Chapter 39 of Noli Me Tangere is about the death of Elias, a student who was killed
by the Guardia Civil for participating in a protest against the oppressive Spanish
colonial government. This event is reflective of the struggles faced by Filipinos
during Spanish colonization, as they were subjected to harsh laws and regulations
that limited their freedom and rights. The event also reflects the current struggles of
the Filipino people in the Philippines, as they continue to fight for their rights and
freedom against oppressive governments. The death of Elias is a reminder of the
sacrifices made by Filipinos in order to gain independence from Spanish rule, and it
serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up for one's rights and fighting
for freedom.

speaks of the importance of education. In the chapter, Crisostomo Ibarra is

must remain determined and focused on my studies in order to succeed.
