At a young age,
I was exposed to death by the loss of a family member. It was surely not the last time I had
experienced it either. I cannot count on one hand the amount of family I have lost due to
various reasons. My point here is, the feeling of grief is familiar to me and it is one I will
never forget.
When I was young, I wanted to become a doctor. My childhood friends and I used to
frequently play "doktor-doktoran"-a game that imitates a real hospital. It was pretty enjoyable
since I got to see what being a doctor is all about. I had envisioned myself helping and
treating patients with care, enthusiastically treating patients with the best health care service
with my utmost knowledge and healthy life track that would hopefully help my patient to fulfill
the care that they deserve. My imagination was so far ahead that it inspired me to devise a
plan for the life I want to lead in the coming years. A dreamer, that is what I am. Someone
full of hope and excitement to take the next step toward the plans I have made.
Then, one day an incident happened where it gives me the commitment to truly pursue
becoming a doctor. The incident occurred when I was 15 years old, and it was an awful
scenario seeing my grandmother’s funeral in front of me due to cancer. Whenever there's a
time when I see people losing someone that is truly closed to them due to serious illness. It
hurts and it breaks my heart just by seeing someone having the pain of losing someone
because I know the feeling of having the pain of losing your loved ones because I’ve been
there before. Due to these incidents, this has drawn me from having the courage to pursue
what I have always been saying to my mother “Ma magiging doctor ako!”
However, in order to pursue my chosen path, I have to go through a lot of obstacles that I
need in order for me to fully understand to what I have committed for and one of that is being
a Senior High School Student in Sanchez Mira National High School taking up Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics where it could help me to further amplify my
knowledge and skills through the curriculum of K-12. The K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum for Senior High School in the Philippines requires a Grade 12 student to undergo
Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student's post-secondary goal in
order to graduate. It indulges us students to experience and expose us to real-life situations
through the partnered agency.
Engaging in this training has been an enlightening and empowering experience in Namauc -
Barangay Health Center. It provided me with a platform to delve deep into various subjects,
broaden my horizons, and challenge my existing perspectives. The training sessions were
thoughtfully designed, incorporating a combination of theoretical concepts and practical
applications. This holistic approach allowed me to grasp the underlying principles and apply
them in real-world scenarios.
Looking back on my training journey, I feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. The
curriculum was comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics relevant to my field of
interest. The trainers were knowledgeable, passionate, and approachable, which contributed
to the effectiveness of the program. The learning materials provided were well-structured
and supported independent exploration of the subject matter.
The training also included hands-on exercises, case studies, and simulations, which allowed
me to apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios. This experiential learning approach
enabled me to develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter and strengthened my
ability to transfer knowledge to real-world situations.
Additionally, the opportunity to receive feedback from trainers and peers during interactive
sessions was invaluable. Constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement provided
me with actionable insights and helped me refine my skills. The open and inclusive learning
environment cultivated throughout the training fostered a sense of camaraderie and
facilitated a collective growth mindset.
On evaluating the training program, I believe it was well-structured, organized, and delivered
with a clear learning objective in mind. The trainers demonstrated expertise in their
respective fields and effectively conveyed complex ideas in a comprehensible manner. The
program's flexibility in accommodating different learning styles and preferences further
enhanced the overall learning experience.
Furthermore, the training program was adept at incorporating both individual and group
learning activities. The inclusion of group projects and collaborative tasks not only enhanced
teamwork and communication skills but also provided an opportunity to learn from others'
perspectives. The program's emphasis on practical applications and real-life examples
bridged the gap between theory and practice, making the learning more meaningful and
applicable.
For the past few weeks in my training period, I have seen myself improving and discovering
the purpose of my life. Although being a student leader and a work immersion student has its
benefits, it pushed me too far, and there was a moment when I doubted myself because of
how exhausting it was-waking up early in the morning, training every day, then having to
study afterward. Every opportunity has its pros and cons, but I do think that in this
experience, the pros weigh more for the reason that I genuinely acquired the ability to handle
different things, including but not limited to managing my time, good communication, and
having accountability for my actions. This experience was a revelation that perseverance
has an influence on our passion and determination.
As a result, Work immersion not only gave me the knowledge and experience through my
chosen field, but it encompasses the realization of how fulfilling it is to help other people. It
made me realize that it is not only important to be knowledgeable in what we do, but we
must have a good attitude in order for us to be what we call a “transformative person” with
compassion and commitment in what we do.
