Warm Bend Me, In His Naughty Contours Using What Beautifully
& Fuzzy Shape Me Shirt or Nice & Character You Have Exposed
But this does not happen often and very rarely occurs in the highly
specialized world of photography. In this guide, I will be showing
the benefits of thinking outside the box by applying fashion model
posing techniques within the realm of glamour photography. This
may be a technique you have already implemented or perhaps
something you have never considered before, regardless…
Blurred Lines
Any photographer is going to state that their delivery of an
emotion is the crux of their work. How this is done and how well
this is done is where the wide variance in art and style come into
play.
If you have a great pose, the viewer will love it. And that’s precisely
why you should give it a lot of thought on how to achieve this.
Take this subject matter serious and come up with a plan for the
poses you want your model to be in.
Getting It Started:
The Basics of Model Posing
If you have someone experienced, the person will already know a
great deal about posing. But not everybody is this lucky. If you get
to work with a newbie, then it is best that you start with some basic
poses.
Just make her stand and ask her to look down or away. She can
change her body angle or move the arms and legs a bit. But no
more than this! Because this easy session is like a warm up and
makes your model feel more confident.
There are certain other issues though which you will have to keep
in mind. For instance, under all circumstances you must ensure
that your model is feeling comfortable.
It is much the same for the arms and the legs as well...

In a seated portrait, simply having the subject lean forward from the waist will create a sloping line to the
shoulders, provided that the person is at an angle to the camera. Simply positioning the body in this way creates
the first and basic dynamic lines within the composition, since the resulting lines in the body will now be diagonal
instead of vertical or horizontal.
Head Tilt
With the shoulders turned at an angle to the camera, the head is then turned or tilted, usually at a different angle
than the shoulders. By doing this, you slant the natural line of the person’s eyes. When the face is not tilted, the line
of the eyes is straight and parallel to the bottom edge of the photograph, leading to a symmetrical, static image. By
tilting the person’s face right or left, the implied line becomes diagonal, making the pose more dynamic and
interesting to the viewer. These posing guidelines are in effect, regardless of whether the photo is a close-up,
head and shoulders, or full-length portrait.
As with most posing suggestions, keep in mind that a more natural look is achieved when the tilt of the person’s
head is slight and not exaggerated. In the feminine pose, the body often faces away from the light source. While
this is something of a cliché technique for posing, like most clichés, it exists for a reason. With the head tilted
toward the near shoulder, the feminine pose creates the impression of mystery and vulnerability - typical female
traits. Whether to tilt the subject’s head toward the near shoulder or the far shoulder is a somewhat controversial
issue among photographers.
These “rules” are frequently disregarded because individual differences and lighting will determine whether the
person is better portrayed as strong or vulnerable, but the strategy is mentioned here so that you can decide for
yourself.
The observer is subconsciously trying to decipher what the models hands are expressing. Keeping hands in mind
and following a few simple rules will help enhance your photographs.
When possible, you should avoid showing the back or palm of the hand. The hand’s profile is slimmer and has a
much more interesting shape. The surface area of the palm or back of the hand is much larger than one expects
and can be distracting in a photograph. Additionally, the delicate skin on the back of the hand is a sure-fire
indicator of your model’s age.
There are always going to be exceptions to the rules though, and you will find that only showing the profile of
the hand can be limiting. Creating a seductive pose by using hands in a special way or implementing a “stay
away” feeling are just two examples thereof.
Relaxed Positions
If you notice that your model’s hands appear stiff, it is because she is tense. Like the mouth, hands express
tension more than other areas of the body. Allow your model to shake her hands in order to relax them.
Then they will most certainly fall into a comfortable, natural looking position.
If you per se desire to have your model’s chin resting on her hand, there is an effective and ineffective way to go
about this. Placing her chin on her closed fist is going to draw immediate attention to the center of that large
space and looks aggressive in nature on top.
Never have her actually rest her weight on her hand either as the pressure can create unpleasant looking wrinkles.
For a gentler looking image, simply turn the hand by 90 degrees. Only show the profile curve of the little finger
and you will end up with a much more attractive photo.
“
Vicka in this series is dressed in the
simplest of lingerie, or lack thereof, but
manages to deliver a wide ranging set
of images. The creation of interesting lines,
curves and angles with the placement
of her figure generates a dynamic
image which is intriguing and thought
provoking. Fashion
modeling often incorporates the
“awkward” pose which is a highly
effective posture. In this pose the
model may slouch her upper body,
folding it over on itself while
maintaining an elegant stance with
her legs. A stimulating form is created
that is unique in its appeal.
Images 83-84 are an interpretation
of this pose. Letting a model come up
with new shapes that are not solely
about creating a “sexy” image will in
turn result in an artistic and innovative
approach which contributes
greatly to a successful photograph.

Using What
You Have
“
The use of props is a feature that
fashion modeling and glamour
modeling share. However, in glamour
modeling we often observe that a boa,
necklace, wrap or other prop is used
in a limited sense. Either it covers up
a portion of the model or she is using
it in a seductive manner. Here we see
that props like a sweater or shawl
can be draped, stretched and manipu-
lated in many interesting ways. The
model is able to create an extension of
her body by stretching the shawl or
sweater into new shapes and
establish a wide variety of postures
because of this.
Additionally, we see the major effect
that black and white versus color can
have on the mood of an image.

Beautifully
Exposed
“
Like the previous set of images, these
pictures rely heavily on the relation
between model and clothing. She is
not simply wearing a cute little dress;
she is using features of the dress to
heighten the confident yet exposed
mood. Her unflinching gaze
combined with her bare breasts
boldly revealed through the dress
make the mood very clear and
enthralling as well. There is not a
directly “suggestive” picture here but
when we look at them, we are surely
feeling that this is an empowered and
sexy woman because of her posture
and facial expression.
Thinking outside the box will often
lead you to quite unexpected results.

Final Thoughts
Remember one thing: There is no single rule that you must fol-
low when you are capturing a nude or glamour pose on your
camera. Yes, you should always have a scenario to begin with.
But you need to be flexible enough so that these plans can be
changed to bring out the best in your nude model. You might
have had a few poses in mind, but you’ll see where it is going.
