Possible causes If one of the paraffin baths does not heat up this may be due to:
• Faulty paraffin bath:
- Heater
- Thermal circuit breaker
• Faulty BASCAR V15 circuit board
- Paraffin bath outlet fuses
- The BASCAR V15 circuit board
• Faulty MICCAR V30 circuit board
• Ring transformer
Before starting the unit using the switch on the rear, make sure that all
$ the connectors are inserted in the two paraffin baths (or three,
depending on the version), as the unit runs a check for the presence of
these signals on start-up.
If, for example, the paraffin bath that does not heat is No. 12:
As the paraffin baths are identical, the origin of the failure can be determined
from the result for this test:
• If the paraffin bath that did not heat with connector 12 does not heat when
connected in position 11, the paraffin bath is very probably faulty
• If the paraffin bath that did not heat with connector 12 does heat up when
connected in position 11, the error is probably due to the control
electronics
Repairing the 1. Dismantle the paraffin bath as shown in the figure on page 18

- If no current can flow through the thermal circuit breaker, replace it.
3. If there is no continuity in the heater circuit, because of the type and
shape of the heater (adhesive), ask your local distributor for a complete
aluminium bath fitted with heater, thermal circuit breaker and
temperature sensor.

replaced. Proceed as described in page 25
If the battery error message continues to appear after the battery has
been replaced, check fuses F6 and F7 on the BASCAR V15 circuit
board.
Check fuses F6 and YES Replace the blown fuses on the BASCAR V15 circuit board.
F7 on the BASCAR F6 = 2AT; F7 = 125mAT
Are they blown?
Page 15
STP 120 Tissue Processor - Service Manual
This alarm condition is produced when the unit detects a drop in the
mains voltage or whenever there is a failure in the power supply to the
electronic circuit boards.
Refer to point 3 on page 8 and make sure that the voltage shown is
correct.
Measurements: Any measurements made inside the unit first require accessing the
electronic system through the base. Proceed as described on page 9,
skipping points 1 and 2 and place the unit in the inclined position.
Pay close attention to the precautions described in ATTENTION and
WARNING.
Procedure: Take the same readings and perform the same operations as
described on page 10 as of point 9 to check:
If this procedure does not solve the problem, first replace the BASCAR
V15 circuit board and if the unit still does not function, replace the
MICCAR V30 circuit board
Page 16
STP 120 Tissue Processor - Service Manual
This message appears on the display when the unit does not detect a
signal from one of the temperature probes (sensors) in the paraffin
baths. (In the example, probe 11).
Before starting the unit using the switch on the rear, make sure
that all the connectors are inserted in the two paraffin baths (or
three, depending on the version), as the unit runs a check for the
presence of these signals on start-up.
Procedure: 1. Turn off the unit using the main ON/OFF switch
2. Insert the connectors for the paraffin baths in their corresponding
bases.
3. Turn the unit on using the main ON/OFF switch.
Once the self-check is completed, press the DOWN key to display the
temperature values of the different paraffin baths.
If any of these values is 280 °C, this could mean that there is a fault in:
• The temperature probe of the bath
• The BASCAR V15 circuit board
• The MICCAR V30 circuit board
If, for example, the error message indicates that it refers to probe 12,
proceed as follows:
As the paraffin baths are identical, the origin of the failure can be
determined from the message on the display:
• If the message still indicates that the error has occurred in probe 12,
it is very probable that the error is caused by the control electronics.
Refer to the procedure for placing the unit in dismantling position
(page 9) and replace the BASCAR V15 circuit board. If the unit still
fails to operate, replace the MICCAR V30 circuit board as described
on page 10.
• If the message now indicates that the error is in probe 11, it is
almost sure that the fault is in the temperature detector of the bath
that was previously bath 12.
Page 17
STP 120 Tissue Processor - Service Manual
Replace the Before proceeding to replace the temperature probe make sure that the
temperature probe following materials are available:
Thermal
circuit breaker
Probe
Procedure: 1. Remove the lower cover (three screws Phillips M3x5 and one
sheet metal screw) and remove the probe, cutting the silicone and
the three cables
2. Scrape off the silicone and adhesive using a cutter
3. Clean the surface with solvent and allow to dry
4. Place the new probe with the flat face in contact with the surface
(Refer to the figure ), and glue it in position using the cyanoacrylate
adhesive (use the adhesive with care, and follow the
Flat manufacturer's instructions)
surface 5. Once the adhesive has hardened, cover the area with
semiconductor silicone to increase the contact surface area.
6. Then cover the area around the probe with standard neutral
silicone to insulate the sensor from the environmental temperature.
7. Connect the cables of the new probe to the terminal tags making
sure that the colours are correct:
Brown -> Green
Red -> Yellow
Black -> Grey
8. Replace the cover.
9. Check the correct operation of the unit
Page 18
STP 120 Tissue Processor - Service Manual
Should the error persist, first replace the BASCAR V15 circuit board
and test the unit.
If the unit continues without correctly identifying the probe(s), replace
the MICCAR V30 circuit board.
When replacing the circuit boards, refer to the procedure for placing the
unit in position for dismantling on page 9 and the procedure for
replacing the circuit boards on page 10 and following.
This message appears when the € key on the control panel is pushed
to manually raise or lower the basket in a paraffin bath and the unit has
been under power for less than four hours.
If these two conditions are not observed there is a very high risk
of causing serious damage to the unit

display.
3. Press the DOWN key to display the temperature of the paraffin
baths.
4. While the display is showing the temperature of the baths, and
before it disappears from the screen, simultaneously press the
ALARM and x2 keys.
An audible warning will sound and the baskets may be raised or
lowered for a period of 5 minutes. After these 5 minutes have
elapsed, the control will again enter blocked status until the time
period of 4 (four) hours has elapsed.
Remember that pressing the STOP key immediately stops any vertical
movement and that pressing the € key for a second time reverses the
direction of movement.
Page 19
STP 120 Tissue Processor - Service Manual
This alarm will appear in either of the following two cases:
1. If the € key is pressed while the program is running and the
basket remains out of the reagent recipients for more than 2 (two)
minutes, there is a risk that the samples will dry out.
This message, together with the audible warning, warns of this risk.
Cancel the alarm by pressing the ALARM key and lower the basket
using the € key.
2. If the unit has been programmed for a start delay and the basket
has not previously been lowered manually using the € key.
In this case there is also a risk of the samples drying out and the unit
issues a warning message and audible signal.
This message appears if there is a malfunction of the RAM CLOCK
on the MICCAR V30 circuit board.
Before attempting to replace the RAM CLOCK, order a new one from
the manufacturer
Once the RAM CLOCK has been replaced, reassemble the circuit
board, close the unit and place it in its operating position with the
baths connected.

When the vertical motor starts, if the unit does not detect activation of
the corresponding vertical position sensor within 2 (two) minutes, the
message VERTICAL FAILURE is displayed on the screen.
Check procedure The check procedure is, essentially, the same as that described for the
horizontal motor, with the following differences:
• the readings should be taken between terminals 53(+) and 54(-) of
the same BASCAR V15 circuit board
• the readings should be taken during the raise/lower movements
after pressing the € key
• the output voltage of the circuit board is 12 V DC
• the polarity is inverted depending on whether the movement is up or
down.
The criteria for replacement of the motor or the circuit boards are the
same as for horizontal movement.
This message appears when the control system detects a malfunction
in the sensors or microswitches that detect movement of the unit.
Check the vertical First of all determine whether it is a malfunction in the vertical position
position sensors sensors, the microswitches, or the BASCAR V15 circuit board.
