THE PARAFFIN BATHS DO NOT HEAT UP

Possible causes If one of the paraffin baths does not heat up this may be due to:
• Faulty paraffin bath:
- Heater
- Thermal circuit breaker
• Faulty BASCAR V15 circuit board
- Paraffin bath outlet fuses
- The BASCAR V15 circuit board
• Faulty MICCAR V30 circuit board
• Ring transformer

Before starting the unit using the switch on the rear, make sure that all
$ the connectors are inserted in the two paraffin baths (or three,
depending on the version), as the unit runs a check for the presence of
these signals on start-up.

Check by Before proceeding with any measurements, determine by elimination

elimination: whether the failure is the bath or the control electronics.

If, for example, the paraffin bath that does not heat is No. 12:

1. Turn off the unit

2. Invert the connectors to baths 11 and 12
3. Re-start the unit.

As the paraffin baths are identical, the origin of the failure can be determined
from the result for this test:

• If the paraffin bath that did not heat with connector 12 does not heat when
connected in position 11, the paraffin bath is very probably faulty
• If the paraffin bath that did not heat with connector 12 does heat up when
connected in position 11, the error is probably due to the control
electronics

Repairing the 1. Dismantle the paraffin bath as shown in the figure on page 18

- If no current can flow through the thermal circuit breaker, replace it.
3. If there is no continuity in the heater circuit, because of the type and
shape of the heater (adhesive), ask your local distributor for a complete
aluminium bath fitted with heater, thermal circuit breaker and

NOTE: This message may appear on the screen when the unit is
connected for the first time. Press the ALARM key to acknowledge
reception of the alarm and operate the unit normally or leave it
connected. The battery should be fully charged to normal levels after
48 hours have elapsed.

If 48 hours have elapsed and after a cut in the power supply the

  This alarm condition is produced when the unit detects a drop in the
mains voltage or whenever there is a failure in the power supply to the
electronic circuit boards.

Refer to point 3 on page 8 and make sure that the voltage shown is
correct.

Measurements: Any measurements made inside the unit first require accessing the
electronic system through the base. Proceed as described on page 9,
skipping points 1 and 2 and place the unit in the inclined position.
Pay close attention to the precautions described in ATTENTION and
WARNING.

Procedure: Take the same readings and perform the same operations as
described on page 10 as of point 9 to check:

• Resistance circuit board

• A voltage of 12V between terminals 17 and 19 of the BASCAR V15
circuit board
• Fuse F1 on the BASCAR V15 circuit board

If this procedure does not solve the problem, first replace the BASCAR
V15 circuit board and if the unit still does not function, replace the
MICCAR V30 circuit board

Page 16
STP 120 Tissue Processor - Service Manual

  This message appears on the display when the unit does not detect a
   signal from one of the temperature probes (sensors) in the paraffin
baths. (In the example, probe 11).

Before starting the unit using the switch on the rear, make sure
 that all the connectors are inserted in the two paraffin baths (or
three, depending on the version), as the unit runs a check for the
presence of these signals on start-up.

Procedure: 1. Turn off the unit using the main ON/OFF switch
2. Insert the connectors for the paraffin baths in their corresponding
bases.
3. Turn the unit on using the main ON/OFF switch.

Once the self-check is completed, press the DOWN key to display the
temperature values of the different paraffin baths.

If any of these values is 280 °C, this could mean that there is a fault in:
• The temperature probe of the bath
• The BASCAR V15 circuit board
• The MICCAR V30 circuit board

Check by elimination: Before proceeding with any measurements, determine by elimination

whether the failure is the bath or the control electronics.

If, for example, the error message indicates that it refers to probe 12,
proceed as follows:

1. Turn off the unit

2. Invert the connectors to baths 11 and 12
3. Re-start the unit.

As the paraffin baths are identical, the origin of the failure can be
determined from the message on the display:
• If the message still indicates that the error has occurred in probe 12,
it is very probable that the error is caused by the control electronics.
Refer to the procedure for placing the unit in dismantling position
(page 9) and replace the BASCAR V15 circuit board. If the unit still
fails to operate, replace the MICCAR V30 circuit board as described
on page 10.
• If the message now indicates that the error is in probe 11, it is
almost sure that the fault is in the temperature detector of the bath
that was previously bath 12.
