VI. RATIONALE:
The Department of Education is committed to supporting the continuing professional
development of teachers, thus in August 2017, Department of Education Secretary
Leonor Briones signed the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) into
policy through DepEd Order No. 42, S. 2017. The policy states, among others, that the
PPST “shall be used as a basis for all learning and development programs for teachers.”
The PPST identifies what teachers are expected to know, be able to do, and value in
the profession.
As a teacher, we need to further understand the PPST as it is crucial for us to
develop and flourish in our profession. It is indeed a need to discuss and share our
learnings, ideas and knowledge about these guidelines. Specifically, the non-observable
classroom indicators will be tackled in this session.
VIII. OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the session, the participants should be able to:
- gain knowledge regarding the non-observable indicators and the plus factor.

VI. RATIONALE:
Teachers have great influence in the lives of their learners. They are expected to be
professionally competent in the practice of their profession. Moreover, they also need to possess
good reputation not only in the school but in the entire community. Having this big
responsibility in the learning environment, teachers must be guided by this code which
comprehensively discuss the different expectations from a teacher.
As mandated in the Code of Ethics for professional teachers, teachers have the responsibility
to interact positively with parents, community members, and other stakeholders of the school.
Contact with parents must be conducted regularly and be kept professional and free from
arguments.
VIII. OBJECTIVE:
- Demonstrate understanding of the key provisions of the code of ethics and become familiar
with the responsibilities of a professional teacher.
- Describe how the code of ethics can help or guide a teacher in the day-to-day
performance/tasks of his work, hence resulting to a good teacher.
- Describe and become familiar with the responsibilities specified in the Code of Ethics for
Professional Teachers.
- Exhibit professional behavior as set out by the Code of Ethics for Teachers in the Philippines.
