Life Processes

The document defines and describes 16 key life processes for organisms including absorption, digestion, excretion, growth, photosynthesis, reproduction, respiration, stimulus response, transport, and more. These processes involve taking in nutrients, breaking down food, releasing waste, obtaining energy, and reproducing. Enzymes, hormones, and ATP play important roles in driving many biological functions.

Life Processes

1. Absorption: The process of taking in nutrients or water through cells or tissues.

2. Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP): High-energy molecule used as the primary source of energy in
organisms.

3. Digestion: Breaking down complex food substances into simpler forms for absorption.

4. Enzymes: Catalysts that speed up chemical reactions in organisms.

5. Excretion: Elimination of waste products from the body.

6. Growth: Increase in size or development of cells and tissues.

7. Hormones: Chemical messengers that regulate physiological processes. 8. Ingestion: Intake

of food or nutrients into the body through the mouth.

9. Nutrition: Acquiring and obtaining nutrients necessary for growth and development.

10. Photosynthesis: Conversion of sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into glucose and oxygen.

11. Reproduction: Production of offspring by organisms.

12. Respiration: Cells obtaining energy from food molecules, releasing carbon dioxide and water.

13. Respiration Rate: Number of breaths per minute, indicating oxygen intake and carbon dioxide
release.

14. Stimulus: Environmental change evoking a response from an organism.

15. Transport: Movement of substances within or between different parts of an organism.

16. Transpiration: Loss of water vapor from plant parts, primarily through stomata in leaves.
