III. PROCEDURE Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities Good Morning, class, can
somebody lead the prayer? (The assigned student will lead
the prayer)
Thank you. Again, Good
Morning, class. I am Ms.
Aliyah Monique V. Benitez, Good Morning, Ma’am.
your teacher for today.

Secretary of the class, how

many are present today? (Secretary of the class will
answer)
Good to hear that. Thank you
Mr. Secretary.

Before we proceed to our next

lesson, let us have first a
recall on one of the most
important concepts you have
learned in your Elementary
Algebra which is about
Exponents.
What you still remember
about exponents?

Yes, Mr. An exponent is a number or letter

written above and to the right of
a mathematical expression called
the base. It indicates that the base
is to be raised to a certain power
wherein b is the base and n is the
exponent or power.

Thank you. How about the

rules? Can you give us some If b is not equal to 0, then b0 =1
rules of exponent, Ms.? and if n is any integer, and a and
b are not equal to zero then b-n =
1/an and (a/b)-n = (b/a)n.

Thank you. It seems that you

really understood what an
exponent is. Does this topic
already clear to you, class? Yes, Ma’am.

Any questions or
clarifications? None, Ma’am.

B. Development of the Okay, if that so, I think you

lesson are all ready to have our new
lesson for today. But before
that we are going to have a
simple game called Jumbled
Words. But before we start,
listen first to my instructions.
The first thing you are going
to do is to pair up with one of
your classmates or friends.
After that, I will present you
the Jumbled Words in which
you and your partner will
arrange to form words. I will
give you 2 minutes to arrange
it. The first pair who finishes
first should have a short and
simple yell as a sign that they
are already finish.
Additionally, those who finish
first will receive rewards
afterwards.
Is that clear, class?
Yes, Ma’am.

POEXTENIALN

NOITCTNFU

BSEA

TANTSONC
(The first pair who finish first say
their short and simple yell)
Okay. Ms./Mr. finish first.
What are those jumbled
words? Those words are exponential,
base, function and constant.

Very good! Correct! I think

you are all have an idea on
our lesson for today. Am I
right, class? Who can guess?
Yes, Ma’am. I think our topic or
Yes. Ms.? lesson for today is about
exponential functions.
Very good! So our lesson for
today is about Exponential
Functions. But before we
Presentation define what an Exponential
functions is, here are the
objectives of the lesson for
day and some examples and
non-examples of an
exponential functions.

At the end of the lesson,

students should be able to:
1. Define an exponential
function.
2. Identify whether the
given is an exponential
function or not.
3. Evaluate exponential
function with the use of table
of values.

Examples Non-

Examples

1) f(x) = 7x 1) f(x) = 4x6

2) f(x) = 2x 2) f(x) = 1x

3) f(x) = 7x+1 3) f(x) = x2

Observe and analyse it for 5
minutes. After that, I will ask
Discussion
you some question/s.

Are you done, class?

Yes, Ma’am.
As you observed those
examples and non-examples
of an exponential function,
what are the common
attributes did you notice? The base must be greater than 0
Yes, Mr.? as well as it must not be equal to
1.
Thank you. Another? Yes,
Mr.? The exponent must be a variable.

Thank you. Can somebody

give me another examples of
exponential function based on
the common attributes you’ve
found and said. Yes, Ms.?
f(x) = (1/5)x
Correct! Thank you. Another?
Yes, Ms.?
f(x) = (3*7)x
That’s also correct! Thank
you.

For you to further understand

Exponential function, here are
another set of examples of it,
but this time we will use a
table of values.

1) f(x) = 4x
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x)

2) f(x) = 7x+2
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x)
Here’s what you are going to
do. Pair up with one of your
classmates or friends. Observe
and try to answer these
examples. I will give you 5
minutes to do that. Later on,
we will discuss it and I will
ask you some questions. Is
that clear, class?
Yes, Ma’am.
Are you done, class?
Yes, Ma’am.
Let’s try to answer example
number 1. Mr and your
partner, can you share with us
your answer for number 1?
1) f(x) = 4x
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 1/16 1/4 1 4 16
Very good! Thank you. Does
your answers are same with
this, class?
Yes, Ma’am.
How about example number
2, who wants to try?
Yes, Ms and your partner? 2) f(x) = 7x+2
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 1 7 49 343 2401

That’s correct! Thank you.

Does your answers are also Yes, Ma’am.
same with this?

Very well! Based on your

answers and your observation
a while ago, what did you
notice on it?
Yes, Mr. My partner and I noticed that
when we use table of values, we
can know that the ratios in y are
common and constant.
Correct! Thank you. Another?
Yes, Ms. My partner and I observed that in
example number 1, the values of
f(x) went on from smaller to
larger and also it has common
ratio.

That’s also correct! Thank

you. How do you evaluate the
exponential functions from
those examples and table of
values? Yes, Ms.? When given an exponential
function f(x) = nx , we simply
plug in values to x, and then we
solve for the corresponding value
to the function.
Very good! Thank you.
It seems that you have an idea
on what exponential function
is.

But before we formally define

an exponential function, we
Application will have a group activity. I
will divide you into 5 groups.
Group 1 will be from Antazo-
Barcelon. Group 2 will be
from Bentir-Clarito. Cubillas-
Dela Cruz Joann will be
group 3. Dela Cruz Reda-
Gundan will be group 4 and
the last group will be from
Limoico-Torres. Choose a
leader/representative from
your group.
What you are going to do is to
determine whether the given
is an exponential function or
not. After that, evaluate the
given exponential function. I
will give you 5 minutes to do
that. Take note; just answer
what number is your group. Is
that clear, class? Yes, Ma’am.
1) f(x) = 3x+2

f(x) = 5x
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x)

2) f(x) = 5x2

f(x) = 2x
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x)

3) f(x) = xx

f(x) = 4x+1
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x)

4) f(x) = (1/2)x

f(x) = 7x
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x)

5) f(x) = 2*3x

f(x) = (1/2)x
x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x)

Are you done class?

Yes, Ma’am.
Okay, if that so, let start with
group 1, does the given in
number 1 is an exponential
It is an exponential function,
function or not?
Ma’am.
How about the table of values
what are your answers? x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 1/25 1/5 1 5 25
That’s correct! How about
Group 2? Does the given is an
exponential function or not?
Why? It is not an exponential function
because based on the common
attributes given a while ago; the
exponent must have a variable x.
Very good! How about your
answers on the table of
values? x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 1/4 1/2 1 2 4

Correct! How about group 3? It is also not an exponential

function because the base must
be any constant not a variable.
How about your answers on
the table of values? x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 1/4 1 1 4 16

Very good! How about group

4? It is an exponential function,
Ma’am.

x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 1/49 1/7 1 7 49
That’s correct! How about the
last group?
It is an exponential function
because the base is an integer and
the exponent is a variable even
though we need to multiply first
the 2 and 3 before we substitute
the value for x.

x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 4 2 1 1/2 1/4
That’s also correct! Thank
you group 5.

Good job, class! You all

figured it out that fast.
Who still have questions
about our lesson? Is there part
that still does not clear to
you? None, Ma’am.

Since it seems that all of you

have an idea on the concept of
Generalization
an exponential function, how
will you define it based on the
given examples and your If x is any real number and n is a
activities? Yes, Mr.? positive real number except 1,
then the expression f(x) = nx is
called an exponential function.

Very good! If b is any number

such that b>0 and b is not
equal to 1, then an
exponential function is a
function in the form f(x) = bx
or nx where b is the base and x
can be any real number.

Another? Yes, Mr.?

Given a table of values, when the
ratios in y are a constant, then the
function is exponential.
Additionally, to evaluate an
exponential function f(x) = nx,
we simply plug in values to x and
then solve for the corresponding
value of the function.
Very good! Thank you. I am
glad that you understand our
lesson for today. For your last
activity, we will have a short
quiz.

Here are the directions.

IV. Evaluation For number 1-3, determine

the given if it is an
exponential function or not.
For number 4-5, evaluate the
exponential function with the
use of table of values.
1) f(x) = 10.5x
2) f(x) = (1/5)x
3) f(x) = (√-2)x
4) f(x)=5x for x= -2, -1, 0, 1, 2
5) f(x)=(1/3)x for x= -2, -1, 0,
1, 2

Are you done answering,

class? Yes, Ma’am.

Just check your papers

honestly and you should take
a pic of it then send it to me
through messenger. Is that
clear, class? Yes, Ma’am.

Okay, what is the answer for

number 1?
Exponential function.
How about in number 2?
Exponential function.
In number 3? Not Exponential function.

Number 4? x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 1/25 1/5 1 5 25

How about in the last

number? x -2 -1 0 1 2
y=f(x) 9 3 1 1/3 1/9

Okay, who got the score of 5?

(Students who got 5 will answer)
4?
(Students who got 4 will answer)
3?
(Students who got 3 will answer)
2 and below?
None, Ma’am.
Very good! Keep up the good
work, class.
For your assignment, search
for the things in which we can
V. Assignment/
apply exponential function in
Agreement real-life situations.

That’s all for today. Thank

you and God bless. Good bye,
class. Good bye, Ma’am.
