CHAPTER 3

In this chapter the methods that are used in the study will be presented. It will present
here the examined design, population, sampling, instrument, and the process of how did we get
the data. In this chapter the review of related literature will be presented and its related study that
will help researchers perform and achieve its goals successfully in their research.
In this study, the researcher employed phenomenological methodology. Phenomenology
is a science whose purpose is to describe particular phenomena, or the appearance of things, as
lived experiences. However, phenomenological research methodology is difficult to explain
because it has no clearly defined steps. Phenomenologist’s opinion is that the clear definition of
methodology tends to limit researcher’s creativity (Burns & Grove, 2003)
3.1 Research Method
The research design of this study is Qualitative. Qualitative research is a process of
naturalistic inquiry that seeks an in-depth understanding of social phenomena within their natural
setting. It focuses on the "why" rather than the "what" of social phenomena and relies on the
direct experiences of human beings as meaning-making agents in their every day lives. Rather
than by logical and statistical procedures, qualitative researchers use multiple systems of inquiry
for the study of human phenomena including biography, case study, historical analysis, discourse
analysis, ethnography, grounded theory, and phenomenology. (University of Texas at Arlington,
2023).
3.2 Research Design
Phenomenological research is a qualitative research approach that seeks to understand
and describe the universal essence of a phenomenon. The approach investigates the everyday
experiences of human beings while suspending the researchers' preconceived assumptions about
the phenomenon. Phenomenological research provides an opportunity for researchers to help
people gain a new understanding of the meaning of these phenomena – these aspects of lived
experiences. This qualitative research approach is designed to offer people insight into
phenomena such as spiritual organization leaders’ quest for wholeness (Thakadipuram, 2010);
The research was designed using a qualitative approach to ensure that it could be presented in a
detailed and expressive manner.
3.3 Participants of the Study
The participants in the Study of Lived Experiences Students on Public Speaking in Datu
Lipus Makapandong National High School, Poblacion, Rosario, Agusan del Sur S.Y. 2022-2023
are the Grade 10 Galilei students. The study pertains to their lived experiences on public
speaking. The results of the study may provide information to teachers, parents, and other
education stakeholders in Datu Lipus Makapandong National High School to enhance their
public speaking skills.
3.4 Sampling Procedure
Quota sampling is a non-probability sampling method that relies on the non-random
selection of a predetermined number or proportion of units. This is called a quota. You first
divide the population into mutually exclusive subgroups (called strata) and then recruit sample
units until you reach your quota. These units share specific characteristics, determined by you
prior to forming your strata. (Published on August 12, 2022 by Kassiani Nikolopoulou. Revised
on December 1, 2022).

3.5 Research Instrument

The researcher used an questionnaire as the primary instrument in gathering data for the
study. Specifically, Combination of both the close and open-ended questionnaire.

A questionnaire is a research instrument that consists of a set of questions or other types

of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent. A research questionnaire is
typically a mix of close-ended questions and open-ended questions (Adi Bhat, 2023).

Closed-ended questions provide the data that can be measured over time. An open-ended
question will give you the insights as to why the customer gave their rating. Combining both
question types will provide the valuable data you need to make informed business decisions
(Getfeedback, 2018).

3.6 Data Gathering Procedure

Prior to commencing data collection, the researchers will initially request permission and
obtain approval from both the section and adviser and the selected participants in order to
distribute questionnaires to the respondents .The instrument employed in this investigation is a
questionnaire. A questionnaire comprises multiple questions. Following the approval, the
questionnaire will be distributed to the selected study participants. Upon collecting the data, it
will be analyzed and interpreted.

3.7 Locale of the Study

The research was conducted at Datu Lipus Makapandong National High School. Among
the 14 municipalities of Agusan del Sur, the municipality of Rosario is the only municipality that
lost a public secondary school. Through the joint efforts of parents and the Local Government
Unit, Datu Lipus Makapandong National High School. was formed in 2002. Datu Lipus
Makapandong National High School. is currently located at DO Plaza Avenue, Poblacion,
Rosario, Agusan del Sur. It was first built at the Rosario Municipal Gymnasium because it was
still a community high school in 2002.

Dear Ma’am,

We are reaching out to you to respectfully ask for your consent and assistance in conducting a
research investigation focused on the lived experiences of Grade 10 Galilei students in public
speaking in Datu Lipus Makapandong National Highschool. The objective of this study is to
gather valuable insights into the students' personal experiences, obstacles faced, and perspectives
regarding public speaking. Through this research, we aim to improve communication skills and
teaching practices in this particular area.

Thank you for your attention and support in this matter.
