I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, students will be able to do the following with at least 80% proficiency level:
 Discuss signs and symptoms of various illness and diseases.
 Spell out the policies and procedures in giving medical assistance,
 Role plays the procedures of communicating with clients relative according to standards,
 Perform the procedures in comforting consoling the client,
 Self-assess one’s action in comforting or consulting client.

II. Subject Matter


A. LESSON: Identify potential diseases and Illness.
B. REFERENCE: MELC TLE_HECG9-12RM-IIIc-d-11
C. MATERIALS: Laptop, LCD Projector, Envelops.
D. CONTENT: For most persons, regardless of age, medical care is necessary when one get sick. Emphasis
is placed on the person’s disease rather than on the fact that he/she is a particular person with certain
capabilities and needs but happened to be ill. It is important that the family receives sufficient knowledge
of the person’s illness so that they readily understand the need for hospitalization if ever. It is also
necessary for the family to have some understanding of the tests and treatments to be given and the risk
and discomfort from the physician’s recommendations.

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE


1. Review
Bomb Question
There are five students who will answer the questions inside the box. He/ She must answer the question
within 15 seconds or the “bomb” will explode.
2. Motivation
The teacher will present a game or a brain

will analyze and give their answers to

3. Presentation of the Topic
For today’s lesson we are going to learn about how to identify potential illness and diseases.
4. Discussion
 The Teacher will discuss about the following;
 examples of potential illness and diseases.
 policies and procedures in giving medical assistance.
 procedures in communicating with client’s relatives according to standard.
 procedure in comforting and consoling client.
5. Activity
 The teacher will divide the class into four (4) groups.
 The class will discuss about the symptoms, treatment and prevention of some potential
illness and diseases.
Rubrics will be: (A slight change of the rubrics is assumed, as students will be engaged on how to rate
each other’s presentation.)

After the given time, students in groups will present their output. Score cards will be given to the leader
of each group.
6. Generalization
 Teacher will summarized the things that they have discussed.
7. Application
 the class will have to Act out a scenario in any of the following topics:
Scene 1: Parent/relative of the client talking to a doctor, discussing the medical
condition of the client.
Scene 2: Parent/relative giving account of the medical history of the client to a nurse
who takes down notes.
Scene 3: Hospital administrator talking to parent/relative about the services offered
by the hospital, the rights of patient on care and treatment, and medical benefits.
Scene 4: Parent/relative visiting the client on bed comforting and consoling her.
