Week 1. WHAT IS CONFESSION?

Central Theme: There is power in our words.

Main Text: Proverbs 18:20-21

“A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the
increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of
the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”.

Introduction:
God spoke creation into being and when He created man, He breathed into
man and man became a speaking spirit like God (Genesis 2:7). Therefore, the
words we speak carry power to create. Our confessions are the things we say
about ourselves, our lives and circumstances, and the situation around us. The
things we say create our experience – either life or death (Proverbs 18:21).
(Confession in this context is not admission of guilt or confession of sin).
The experience we desire is the entirety of God’s blessing contained in His
word. Confession is the tool of appropriation of our inheritance in Christ into
our reality, that is, the instrument of conversion of the blessing written in the
Word of God into our experience. So, the words we speak must be what the
Word of God says, therefore, our hearts should be filled with the word of God
(Luke 6:45)
Confession involves deliberate sessions of the declaration of the word of God
into our lives or situation to create the experience we desire. However, it also
includes the pronouncements that we make in everyday conversations. You
must deliberately speak life and be mindful of your conversations (Ephesians
4:29).

Discussion: How do you ensure that your confession, that is the words you
speak, aligns with the experience that you desire?

Conclusion:
Words kill, words give life; they are either poison or fruit – you choose.
(Proverbs 18:21 MSG)

Activity: Make this confession multiple times a day during this week.

‘I am a spirit being created in the image of God and a speaking spirit like God.
I speak life always and my words align with the Word of God.’
Week 2. GOD’S WORD AND PRAYER EFFECTIVE IN CONFESSIONS

Central Theme: How do I use God’s word and prayer to develop effective
confessions?

Main Text: Mark 11:22-24; Joshua 1:8

Introduction:
We manifest or bring to reality our inheritance in Christ through the use of
confessions (Romans 10:10; Revelations 12:11). Confessions are not just
words that are produced by mere thoughts. Rather they are verbal
expressions of God’s will. How then do we access God’s will on matters
concerning us? We do this through the study of God’s word and through
prayer. His will regarding our inheritance has been clearly revealed in the
scripture (the word) and prayer is the exercise through which we enforce and
receive what is written. The believer must be balanced in the use of prayer
and God’s word. An over-emphasis on one at the expense of the other will
result in ineffective confessions.
How Prayer and God’s word influence our confessions

1. God’s word gives us light into His will and our desires. Ps 119:104-105

2. During prayer the word we have studied is illuminated and a quickening

happens. At this point we receive the wisdom in God’s word concerning the
situation - Ps 119:50
3. Because we now have light from God’s word and our spirit has been
quickened, we can make confessions that bring the results – Luke 4:4
(TPT); Prov 13:3 (TPT), Prov 12:19a (KJV).

Discussion: What are the possible reasons some believers do not see results
from prayer, study, and confessions?

Conclusion:

Studying the word and praying consistently are two important elements
required for developing effective confessions. The believer’s confession comes
from a place of revelation, conviction, and faith. They are not mere words
stirred by positive thinking. Rather they are words inspired and empowered by
God’s spirit to manifest his power in us.

Activity: Set out time this week to prayerfully study the bible. Thereafter,
develop confessions regarding specific situations as your spirit is quickened.
Week 3. THE ROLE OF MEDITATION IN OUR CONFESSION

Central Theme: To find out from scripture how meditation helps our confession

Main Text: Luke 6:45 TPT

Introduction:
Confession is what we say with our mouth (Romans 10:10B). We need to say
what God says about us so that we can enjoy what He has given to us in his word
(Hebrews 13:6 & Romans 10:10B). However, to agree with God with our lips
alone without any agreement with Him in our heart, imagination and thoughts will
not produce our desired result (Isa 29:13). Meditation on God’s word is how we
bring our heart and thoughts into agreement with God (Joshua 1:8).
What is mediation on God’s word?

Meditation on God’s word is the practice of thinking on God’s word by muttering it

to yourself while focusing your thoughts and imagination on that same word
(Joshua 1:8). To meditate, you use your mind and mouth simultaneously. It is
important that we fill our hearts with God’s word because it is out of the
abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks (Lk 6:45). Meditation is how we fill
our hearts and imagination with God’s word.

How to Meditate for confession.

1. Read the bible to receive the quickened word of God(Psalm 119:130).

Highlight these bible verses that stand out to you.

2. Say the word of God you receive to yourself with your thoughts focused on
those words. (Joshua 1:8A)

3. Write down thoughts that come to you as you mutter God’s word. (Prov 3:5,
Prov 7:3).

4. Personalize the word of God you have received and declare it boldly in faith.
(Heb 13: 5b -6)

Benefits of Meditation

1. It aligns your heart with God’s heart.

2. It fills your thoughts with God’s word.

3. It builds your faith and strengthens your conviction removing fear and worry.

4. It keeps you conscious of God’s presence.

Discussion:
How often should a believer meditate? Do I always need a quiet place to
meditate?

Conclusion:

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks forth, therefore it is
important to fill the heart with God’s word through meditation for effective
confession.
Week 4. THE ROLE OF MEDITATIVE PRAYER IN CONFESSION

Central Theme: How to apply meditation and prayer to impact our confession

Main Text: Psalm 39:3 KJV

Introduction:
Meditation in the word of God is a fundamental and important Christian discipline
that fills the heart with the word of God Josh 1:8, Col 3:16. It helps the believers'
hearts, and conscious thoughts to be dominated by the word of God.
Last week we learned how to apply meditation to our confession. Today we are
learning how to combine Meditation with prayer in the practice of meditative
prayer to impact our confession of faith. Meditative prayer is the practice of
meditating on God’s word and simultaneously using those same scriptures to
make supplications and demands by God’s word in prayer. It can also be a
combination of muttering the scriptures in a mentally focused way and praying in
the Holy Spirit in an alternating manner.
The practice of meditative prayer is a spiritual discipline through which we
cooperate with the Holy Spirit to build up our faith so that we can confess God’s
word with impact upon our spirit man and the situation we are faced with. It is a
process of internalising God’s word and also impacting the environment with the
power of God's word.

How to practice meditative prayer

Practicing meditative prayer is like practicing meditation as we discussed last
week only in this case you mutter God’s word to yourself in prayer form and
make declarations of your faith as the Holy Spirit gives you inspired utterances in
your known words.
Discussion: Have you practiced meditative prayers before? Kindly share your
experience.
Conclusion:

When we practice meditative prayers, we maximise the power of God’s word for
the transformation of our minds and impact on our environment and situation.

Weekly activity/Assignment

Set timely watches every day throughout this week to meditatively pray using the
promises of God that you have.
Week 5. PRAYER BREAK AND QUESTIONS

1. I place a seal of the blood of Jesus over my heart and my

tongue. Out of me proceeds life to every part of me.

2. I walk in the grace made available by the provisions of

Christ’s sacrifice and I am a life-speaking spirit.

3. I walk in the consciousness of who I am.

fulness of God’s plan for His kingdom

Week 6. YOUR WORDS ARE YOUR SERVANTS
(the believer’s responsibility to make confessions).

Central Theme:
1. To find out from the scripture why as a believer, I must speak and make
confessions.

2. How to assume personal responsibility to speak to things.

Main Text: Romans 10:10

Introduction:
We have said in our previous sessions that our confessions are the things we say
about ourselves, our lives and circumstances, and the situation around us. The things
we say create our experience – either life or death (Proverbs 18:21).

Faith works like a seed and it needs to be planted, the only way it is planted is
through our words. Matt 17:20, Luk 17: 6. We often think we need more faith, what
we need is to activate the faith we have by sending it on errands. Speak!
You plant faith by speaking words that are based on the authority of God’s Word.

Discussion:

1. Who should confess?

2. What must he/she confess?

3. Share a personal experience in a situation where you have used confessions to
solve life’s issues
Activity/Assignment for this week:

1. Write out your confessions with relevant scriptures you have received in the place
of prayer.
2. Set aside time and space this week to practice confessions.

Week 7. THE HOLY SPIRIT AND MY CONFESSIONS

Central Theme: How does the Holy Spirit help me with my confessions?

Main Text: Isaiah 59:21 (VOICE)

“This is My covenant promise to them: My Spirit, which rests on and
moves in you, and My words, which I have placed within you, will
continue to be spoken among you and move you to action. And not only
you, but so it will be for your children and their children too and so on
through the generations for all time”.

Introduction:
Our confession is important because we experience the things that God has
freely given to us in Christ by continually confessing faith-filled words and
calling forth things that be not as though they were. As Brother Hagin once
explained, ‘confession is faith’s way of expressing itself, for faith grows with
confession’. It is the Holy Spirit who brings light and revelation to Scriptures to
show us these things as well as God’s mind for specific matters.

Ways the Holy Spirit helps our confessions.

1. He “quickens” the Word (John 6:63). In practical terms, this means that
the Holy Spirit makes a specific verse jump at us or come alive in answer
to prayer for clearer understanding of a matter, or to strengthen our
convictions over a prophetic declaration or to reveal to us the mind (will) of
God on a given matter. In this way, He brings us to a place of full
persuasion and faith.

2. The Holy Spirit grants utterance, helping us to convert revealed scriptures

to faith confessions 2 Cor 4:13.

3. The Holy Spirit produces joy that strengthens us to keep declaring God’s
word and victorious outcomes Rom 14: 17. Joy, rejoicing and worship
energize our faith.
4. It is by the enablement of the Spirit we maintain bold confessions and
consistency in speaking especially when there are no apparent changes in
external circumstances. (John 14:26 & Luke 6:45).
Week 7. THE HOLY SPIRIT AND MY CONFESSIONS (Contd)

Discussion:

Share personal experiences of the Holy Spirit helping your confessions. What
was the outcome? What did it do to your faith and confidence?

Activity/Assignment:

Revisit scriptures the Holy Spirit has quickened over specific matters in your
life, ask His help to confess those words every day and keep the Word on your
lips throughout the week.
Week 8. FAITH AND MY CONFESSIONS.

Central Theme:
1. To find out from scripture how my faith affects my confessions.

2. How to apply my faith to my confessions.

Main Text: Romans 4: 16-21, Hebrews 11:1-3

Introduction:
Faith is a critical component of every believer’s walk with God; The bible tells us, in
Hebrews 11:2 that by FAITH the elders of old who walked with God obtained a good
report, and in Hebrews 11:6, that without faith, it is impossible to please God.
Faith, contrary to long held perception, is not just believing, but are actions we take
based on the wisdom, direction, or instruction received in the place of communion
with God.

In Luke 17:6 “The Lord answered, “if you have faith even as small as a mustard seed,
you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘may you be uprooted and be planted in the sea,
and it would obey you!” This shows us very clearly that without faith, confessions will
not work.

Examples of application of Faith to confession.

1. ABRAHAM: In obeying God to sacrifice his son, he still said “I and lad will go and
worship and we will return”. Gen 22:3-5 & Heb 11: 17-19. Faith enabled Abraham
to make this confession in Gen 22:5.

2. DAVID: He came against Goliath in the name of the Lord, boldly declaring to
Goliath what he’ll do to him. Faith enables us to be Bold in our confessions. 1
Samuel 17:34-37, 45-47 & Psalm 124:8.
3. PETER AND JOHN: Acted on their faith by commanding a lame man “rise up and
walk” Acts 3:6. Faith enables us to make commands in our confessions.
4. WOMAN WITH ISSUE OF BLOOD: Said with her mouth Matt. 9:20-21 & Luke 8:43.
Faith enabled her to make this confession.
5. JESUS: Showed us that our confession (declaration) is effective only when backed
by faith. The fig tree (Mark 11:14), Lazarus, Man with withered hand (Luke 6:10,
Mark 3:5), Jairus daughter (Luke 8:54-55), The storm (Mark 4:39-40).

Discussion:

What are some of the common factors responsible for building up the faith of these
individuals to the point that they can make bold declarations of faith?

Activity for the week:

Commit some time to seek God’s face concerning a challenge; receive a word on it
and then speak to that situation in line with the word you got.

Week 10. FAITH, CONFESSIONS, AND CONSISTENCY- A CASE STUDY

Central Theme:
To find out from scripture how to successfully apply faith to my confessions

Introduction:

1. What is faith?

Class to respond.
“Faith is not just believing. Faith is what we do because we believe.”

Proof? Hebrews 11:1-11 shows us what people did because they had faith in God.

2. What is a confession?
Class to respond.

“Confession involves deliberate sessions of the declaration of the word of God into
our lives or situation to create the experience we desire.”

However, it also includes the pronouncements that we make in everyday

conversations. You must deliberately speak life and be mindful of your
conversations (Ephesians 4:29).

3. What is consistency? Consistency IS NOT the same as persistence.

Class to respond.

“Consistent means behaving or acting the same way or doing something the same
way over time.”

Someone who is not consistent is double-minded as shown in James 1:6-8.

Unbelief is why a person is double-minded, so says God’s word in James 1:6-8.
Persistence means continuing to do something despite difficulties and challenges
(Luke 11:5-8). To get results, we need to be both consistent and persistent. This
brings us to our case study.

Week 10. FAITH, CONFESSIONS AND CONSISTENCY- A CASE STUDY (contd)

Case Study:

Victoria had a blood disease in her body. She had been to several doctors (native
doctors, orthodox doctors, spiritual doctors in the form of spiritualists) in search of
cure, but her condition remained the same. One day, she heard about Jesus. She
heard that Jesus heals EVERYBODY who comes to Him. She also heard that ANYONE
can come to Jesus. So she decided to go to Jesus to get healed of this blood disease.
Her body was very weak. There was such a huge crowd all going to see Jesus. But she
kept saying to herself: “If I can touch the hem of His garment, I will be made whole”.
She kept saying this to herself and kept moving her weak body through the great
crowd to get to Jesus and touch His garment. Finally, she touched Jesus and she was
immediately healed of that blood disease. (Matt. 9:20-22 and Luke 8:42-48 RETOLD).

Discussion:
1) Did Victoria practice Faith, confession and consistency?

Week 11. THE POWER OF CONFESSIONS

Central Theme:
Appropriating Prophetic Utterances

Main Text: Ezekiel 37:4-7

Introduction

To “appropriate” means to take something for your own use.

The Word of God has the ability to take hold of and affect our environment, economy,
industry, government, and the entire nation. Prophetic utterances are God’s written
word (commanding statement with instructions), quickened by God to you (Rhema),
and can be spoken to things/situations to make them behave in a particular way (Ezra
6:14, Mark 11:24, II Kings 7:1 & Acts 2:4).
Prophetic utterances cause the manifestation of signs and wonders in our environment
(Zach 4:6, Mk 11:23). Therefore, prophetic utterance is a spiritual tool we should
employ when faced with challenges. It has the power and ability to bring into effect
radical and dramatic results in our environment.

So, to appropriate prophetic utterances, we must:

1. Be filled with the Holy Spirit: the Holy Spirit gives us what to speak as prophetic
utterance. (Acts 2:4)

2. Stay in God's Presence: Prophetic utterances become alive to us and specific to our
situation the more we stay in God's presence growing roots downward (through
constant worship). Ps 46:1-5, 92:2.
3. Get quickened: To be quickened is to receive light from the scriptures
(understanding) and instructional statement(s) for the situation. (John 6:63, Ps
119:49-50).

Week 11. THE POWER OF CONFESSIONS (contd)

How to Influence our environment through Prophetic Utterances

1. Get the relevant scriptures for the situation. These scriptures give hope to the
situation.

2. Go to God in prayer and spend quality time until you are quickened by the Spirit of
God.

3. Spend time praying in the Spirit with scriptures (words) to get light/edification.

4. Stay in God’s presence in worship and thanksgiving over the situation until you see
the light and receive instruction. This light and instruction received is the
quickened word.
5. Speak the quickened words (life-giving scriptures) to the situation.

Conclusion:

This is how you cause situations to align with the will of God. God opens your inner
eyes to certain scriptures that give you light and instructions. You speak the
quickened word to the specific situation until it aligns.

Activity/Assignment for this week:

Get the relevant scriptures for a specific situation of concern to you. Set aside time
this week to pray and stay in God’s presence until you are quickened by the Spirit.
Then, practice praying and speaking to things in your environment through your
prophetic utterances.
Week 12. PROPHECIES, DECLARATIONS & MY CONFESSIONS- A CASE STUDY

Central Theme:
How to Harness prophetic declaration for Confession

Main Text: 1 Timothy 1:18

“This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which
went before on thee, that thou by them might war a good warfare; ”.

Introduction
The Word of God teaches the believer that God will speak to us and confirm His word
for our lives through the media of prophecies and prophetic declarations (1
Corinthians 14:3, Romans 12:6, Hebrews 2:3). Prophecies and prophetic declarations
are inspired utterances given by the Holy Ghost and spoken by ministers of God, or
believers in a corporate gathering, or given by the Holy Ghost to the believer during a
time of prayer and worship and declared over oneself in moments of private devotion.

When we hear prophecies and prophetic declarations that align with the word of God
and bear witness with our spirit, our job is to take note of that prophetic word and
write it down or have it in audio form for reference purposes. Just like Paul told
Timothy to use the prophecies and prophetic declarations he has received from God
through others and himself as weapons for warfare, we also must be prompt to take
note of prophetic declarations and incorporate them into our daily Christian practices
such as meditation, worship, prayer and confessions.

Case study:

Darlington shared the testimony of how 2023 was a productive year with a friend at
work. He narrated that it all began at the crossover service and a couple of WAFBEC
sessions at the start of the year. Towards the end of 2022, he received specific
promises from the word of God during his private devotion. He had been meditating
on these promises and praying to see the full extent of what God has planned to do in
his life.

During the crossover service on Dec 31st, 2022/Jan 1st, 2023, as the Pastor taught
and made prophetic utterances, Darlington heard the Pastor speak by the Spirit a
series of prophecies that confirmed and explained what God had told him in secret.
Darlington wrote out the prophecies and regularly spoke them over himself. One of
the prophetic declarations he received was

“Every month of this year you will bring forth fruit in every area of your life”.

Darlington daily said this to himself and by the end of the year, he was recounting 12
distinct blessings that made his year an outstanding example of the power of warring
with prophetic declarations.

1. How often should I use the prophetic declarations I received in my personal

confession of faith?
2. Share your experience if you have used prophetic declarations in your personal
confession or in the face of a situation and received results.

Conclusion:

Prophecies and Prophetic declarations are given to us by God and they are vital to our
advancement in the things of God on the earth.

Weekly activity/assignment:
Listen to the prophetic declarations of the crossover service and the WAFBEC sessions
that ministered to you and write them out. Start using them in your daily confession
of faith.
Week 13. DEALING WITH UNBELIEF - A CASE IN STUDY

Central Theme:
How to recognize unbelief and overcome it.

Main Text: Hebrews 4: 1-2, Romans 4: 17-21

Introduction

A system of Faith that does not produce corresponding fitting behaviour has no life in
it. Our response to challenges and trials reflects how rooted we are in fellowship with
God.

Case in study:

Frank, Jerry and Maxwell have been friends since their university days. They became
saved the same day at the same time on campus. After graduating from school these
three friends have sent out their CV’s several times applying for various jobs. Each of
them has been dutifully confessing God’s word over their circumstance. One beautiful
morning, they each receive mails for an interview with a company they applied to 4
months’ back. After the interview, Maxwell alone got the job. Frank became offended
at God, he began complaining and murmuring, became less committed to church, and
gave in to depression. Jerry went back to God in praise and thanksgiving, confessing
Romans 8: 28 and 37 in addition to his previous confessions. Weeks later Jerry
received a letter to resume work the next week at the same company with better pay
and more benefits.

Discussion:

1. What did Jerry understand differently from Frank?

2. Do we meditate on the problems instead of meditating on God’s Word? and How?

Week 13. DEALING WITH UNBELIEF - A CASE IN STUDY (contd)

Conclusion:

‘’My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties,
see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can. For
you know that when your Faith is tested it stirs up in you the power of endurance.
And then as your endurance grows even stronger, it will release perfection into every
part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.’’
James 1:2-4 TPT.
God doesn’t delight in the sufferings of His children, He sometimes uses trials to test
our Faith, and if we respond correctly, tests or trials can produce a good character
within us, leading us to greater victories in life. Confessing God’s promises and
meditating on them reinforces the truth and strengthens our belief. Hebrews 10:35-
36.

Activity for the week:

Confess every act of unbelief and repent. Consciously thank God for past
achievements and victories in your life.
Week 14. THANKSGIVING AND MY CONFESSIONS

Central Theme:
Effect of my giving thanks to God on my Confessions

Main Text: Col 3 vs 1-2(Message), John 6 vs 10,11, John 11 vs 41-44

Introduction

Severally during this series, we have established the importance of the word of God,
the role of prayer, and the influence of the supply of God’s spirit in helping to
actualise what we have desired in the place of prayers. These desires we have
substantiated as we confessed the quickened words over those situations.

While waiting or working out the details of what we desired from God, a major key
that is often neglected is thanksgiving. In thanksgiving we see from a different realm
of existence, we see from God’s perspective.

Jesus in the two examples above demonstrated His firm belief in His father’s ability
and capacity by refusing to see anything contradictory to what the desired outcome
was. Like the text in Colossians admonished, “look up and be alert to what is going on
around Christ - THAT IS WHERE THE ACTION IS. SEE THINGS FROM HIS
PERSPECTIVE.

The epistle clearly revealed to us what has happened in Christ; a few of these are:
every blessing is ours (Eph 1 vs 3), all things are ours (2 Pet 1 vs 2,3), that we are
complete in him (Col 2 vs 10).
As we praise Him and give him thanks over our requests we demonstrate where our
perspective lies, we ignore lying vanities, we set a mark around the boundaries of our
life and requests. We practically create a conduit for the manifest presence of God to
be seen and felt in and through the situation. When we give thanks more, God will
show up faster than we could imagine.

How to mix our confession with Thanksgiving

1. Document all that God has done in the past.

2. Meditate on what His word has told you.

3. Shift the focus from yourself and be grateful for others.

4. Celebrate boldly the seemingly small victories that you have recorded.

Week 14. THANKSGIVING AND MY CONFESSIONS (contd)

Discussion

• Provide examples in the scriptures of people who practiced mixing their confession
with thanksgiving.

• What other things prevent us from living a life of thanksgiving?

Conclusion:

In thanksgiving, we hand over the reins to God to deploy the kingdom systems
regarding that situation. Psalm 22 vs 3. He dwells in the praises of His people. He is
available to cooperate with you to cause to come to pass what you have desired of
Him.

Weekly assignment/activity:
In everything, give thanks this week. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you.
