Lessons
This session will lead us to understand the significance of web journalism, and integrating self-understanding, storytelling, contextualization and
digital applications in creating self-video lessons.
Before we start, let us take note of the following session objectives. (Present the abovementioned session objectives to the participants.)
A. Activity (10 minutes)
Invite the attention of the participants to closely study the charts from Reuter’s Institute about digital news reports and ask the questions:
Chart 1
1. What is the point of the chart?
2. Which is the most popular option among Filipinos for trust in news?
3. Why is this so?
Chart 2
1. What is the chart all about?
2. Which is the top digital device used among Filipinos?
3. Why is this so?
B. Analysis (10 minutes) 
Ask: What role does social media play in our society and even in our lives nowadays?
Call random participants to answer the given questions. Then, process them further by asking the following:
1. What is fake news and why do people create it?
2. What is the right thing to do when you spot fake news?
C. Abstraction (40 minutes)
Before discussing the key concepts to the participants, present to them first the following questions:
1. What is backpack journalism?
2. How does traditional journalist combat backpack journalist?

Have the participants observe doing the intro spiel by integrating self-confidence, storytelling, contextualization and digital application.
Explicit Teaching of Noting Significant Details 
Do the WE Do part in conducting an on-the-spot interview among the participants. A participant will be called for a short interview and be
recorded as part of the short production.
Emphasize and reiterate how to use the strategies appropriately.
Make sure to incorporate the recorded interview for some added elements in the news.
Review first the editing before producing the short news.
After such, present to the audience the output.
 
D. Application
Lights, Camera, Action! (You Do) (30 minutes)
Divide your audience into small groups. 
Use your phone to shoot my presentation, make a creative 1-minute intro spiel.
Provide constructive feedback to their output. Ask to explain how they applied the strategy. Do the same process for groups 2-10. 
E. Wrap Up (10 minutes)
Ask the participants to answer the questions and post their answer in the padlet link.
1. As a journalism teacher, share best practices and possible challenges you might encounter as you teach this particular skill.
2. Now that we are in a new normal and we are expected to use different learning modalities, how will you teach mobile journalism?
