Shan Han (cold) first attacks the Wei Qi then progressively lodges itself deeper
Wei Qi is Yang and concentrates at GV 14 (crossing pt. of all yang meridians) & between scapula (gua sha very effective here)
Healing happens in the reverse order of onset (more recent symptoms disappear first, more chronic symptoms disappear last)
In Yang stages, needle the yang antique points. In Yin stages, needle the Yin antique points.
In mild conditions, the legs are affected. In severe conditions, the arms and legs are affected.
Wind points to use: SI 12, BL 12, GB 20, DU 16, DU 14
Prevalence of Cold Pronounced aversion to cold, stiff neck, severe headache that is likely BL 12, LU 7, LI 4, TB 5, GB 20, MOXA
Channel Pattern occipital, no sweating, severe body aches, runny nose with white

Tai Yang

YANG Yang Ming ST Heat builds as a result of stagnation causing Big Four – high fever, LI 11, DU 14, PC 3, ST 43, ST 44

Red tongue with yellow coat. Feeling of heat is objective (patients body
is hot on palpation)
Yang Ming
Yang Ming ST and intestinal Heat turning to Fire & burning up fluids à Dryness in LI 11, DU 14, PC 3, ST 43, ST 44, ST
Organ Pattern bowels. High fever is worse in the afternoon. Big Four + constipation. 25, SP 15, ST 37, SP 6
Deep-full-slippery-rapid pulse. Thick coat
Btw Interior & Exterior Yang of the Wei Qi is exhausted. EPF moves between Tai Yang and Yang TB 5, GB 41, TB 6, DU 13
Ming levels (½ exterior ½ interior, ½ head ½ abdomen, pain in the side

Shao Yin

Collapse of Yin & Yang Yin cannot ascend à heat above. Chest heat & pain, persistent thirst, LV3, LI 4, SP 4, PC 6
hungry but no desire to eat, vomiting, malar flush, night sweats
Jue Yin Yang cannot descend à cold below. Cold hands & feet or limbs,
diarrhea, weak knees and back, cold limbs, swelling, edema, ascites.

Note: Digestive and bowel complaints occur in Yangming, Taiyin, and Shaoyin stages. You will need to differentiate by 8 principles,
particularly Hot and Cold. If that is not clear in a case study, then differentiate by thirst:
Yangming – intense thirst
Taiyin – no thirst
Shaoyin – thirst for warm fluids only (Yang Xu) or dry mouth at night (Yin Xu)
