Introduction of the study

High School Is a time significant changes, particularly in the social sphere.as teenager navigate the

complexities if clique, groups, and social hierarchy, some student result to class ghosting.

Class ghosting is the act of disappearing from classes and other school related activities without prior

notice to teachers and peers it has become a pervasive problem in high school nowadays it also affect

the academic and performance of students.

The term "class ghosting" pertains to the act of high school students skipping classes without valid

reasons, leaving teachers and classmates unaware. This has become a troubling trend that greatly affects

the quality of education and may lead to unfavorable outcomes. The reasons behind this behavior can be

varied and complicated, including disengagement with academic activities, dissatisfaction with the school

environment, social pressures, personal concerns, mental health problems, and social media addiction.

The impact of class ghosting is significant and can result in poor academic performance, failure,

disciplinary actions, missed learning opportunities, damaged relationships, mental health issues, lack of

confidence, and negative outlook towards education. To conquer class ghosting, interventions need to be

comprehensive and personalized to the students' and the school's needs. These interventions can include

effective communication amongst teachers, parents, and students; rewards and penalties for attendance;
monitoring and tracing attendance records; mental health support; engaging academic curricula; and

supportive school environment. Additionally, students can benefit from counseling or therapy to address

any underlying problems causing the behavior, and parents can benefit from resources to address issues at

home. Combining these interventions and supportive resources can successfully manage the problem of

class ghosting among high school students.

Statement of the problem

1.Class Ghosting: Class ghosting refers to the act of skipping a class or multiple classes without

informing the teacher or classmates.

2. Root Causes: The root causes of class ghosting among high schooler’s can be multiple, like lack of

interest in studies, peer pressure, bullying, mental health issues, family problems, etc.

3. Effects: Class ghosting can have severe effects on the academic performance of the students as they

miss out on important lessons and lectures, which may compromise their knowledge and performance

in exams. Moreover, it can lead to disciplinary actions, detention, and missed opportunities to show

their participation and potential in class.

4. Intervention: To address the issue of class ghosting, teachers, school authorities, and parents can take

some interventions like monitoring the attendance of all students, talking to students about the importance
of attending classes, providing counseling and emotional support, creating a safe and comfortable

learning environment, and offering extra support to students who are struggling with academic or

personal issues. Additionally, peer support groups and mentorship programs can also be helpful.

Definition of Terms

Significance of the Study

The benefactors of the study were clearly for the students, because this study was designed to single-

out their needs and concerns and this applicate assistance or program can be done to improve their

situation.

The parents and guardians were benefited by the child benefited by the study in the sense that its

findings helped them to identify how to improve their self-esteem, improve child achievement, and

behavior and accessible program for the student development.

School Administrations: School administrations can benefit from studying absenteeism among students

because it can help them identify students who are at risk of falling behind academically, develop

strategies to improve attendance, and allocate resources to support student success.


Teachers: Teachers can benefit from the study of absenteeism among students because it can help them

identify students who are struggling with attendance, tailor instruction to meet the needs of absent

students and develop strategies to promote regular attendance.

Researchers: Researchers can benefit from studying absenteeism among students because it can help

advance the understanding of the causes and consequences of absenteeism, inform the development of

interventions to improve attendance and academic success and promote the well-being of students.

Community Organizations: Community Organizations can benefit from studying absenteeism among

students because it can help them develop programs and services to support students and families in

improving attendance, academic success and overall being.

Scope and Delimitation

Scope: This study examines the phenomenon of class ghosting among high school students. Specifically,

it focuses on identifying the root causes and effects of class ghosting among high schoolers and

developing interventions to address this issue.

Delimitation: This research is limited to investigating class ghosting in high schools only. The study does

not include middle schools or colleges. Additionally, the research is restricted to the causes, effects, and
interventions concerning class ghosting and does not analyze other factors related to absenteeism in

schools. Root Causes: The study aims to identify the root causes of class ghosting among high schoolers.

The possible causes could include lack of motivation, mental health issues, poor time management skills,

social anxiety, and bullying.

Effects: The study explores the effects of class ghosting not only on the absentee student but also on the

entire class. The potential effects may include academic struggles, social isolation, missed learning

opportunities, negative perceptions from peers and teachers, and low self-esteem.

Interventions: The study aims to develop interventions to address class ghosting among high schoolers.

Interventions may include increasing student engagement through meaningful activities, providing mental

health support and counseling, involving parents in the intervention strategies, establishing regular

communication between teachers and students, and using positive reinforcement.

Overall, this study's goal is to identify factors causing class ghosting, assess its effects, and provide

evidence-based interventions to address this issue, leading to better educational outcomes and student

well-being.
