Introduction

A career development plan is typically a roadmap that outlines a person's goals and
skills, as well as the steps they need to achieve these goals. It can also include
strategies for improving one's abilities, networking with professionals, and searching
for new opportunities.

A well-designed career development plan helps individuals identify their goals and
develop a plan for their future. This strategy can help people identify their ideal job
and manage their career success. Having a well-designed career plan can also help
people make informed decisions regarding their life.

This professional portfolio will comprise my personal statement with a completed


application for an Area Manager position at Lidl GB with a suitable C.V. and plan for
skills development. This report is based on my work experiences, skills, goals,
education and interests. It will help me understand the strengths and skills that I
need to improveto achieve my career aspirations. It will also include my personal
skills audit ranged between 1 to 5 that shows the gaps between my skills.

Lidl UK is a supermarket chain that operates more thaneight hundred stores across
the United Kingdom (LidlUK). The company is a subsidiary of Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG,
a German global discount supermarket chain operating in multiples countries.

In addition the company has a strong focus on sustainability and ethical practices. It
is committed to reducing waste, promoting healthy eating, and supporting local
communities. The company sources its products from local and sustainable sources
and ensures that its suppliers comply with ethical standards.

Overall, Lidl UK is a popular and growing supermarket chain that offers affordable
and high-quality products while prioritizing sustainability and ethical practices.

It is interesting to be part of a company with the mission of feeding the nation and I
want to be part of that, it is a role that I will be proud of and enthusiastic about. Also,
it’s a company with plenty of opportunities to progress with competitive salary and
benefits.

A experienced store General Manager with four years’ experience in hospitality
writing to manifest strong interest in the role of Area Manager at Lidl GB.As a
Restaurant Manager for four years, I have developed a passion for delivering high-
quality customer service and achieving operational excellence.I prove track record of
successfully managing and leading teams, achieving sales targets, and delivering
exceptional customer service. It is my confidence that my skills am confident that my
skills and experience make me a strong candidate for this position.

Throughout my career, I have gained valuable experience in managing and training


staff, implementing and adhering to health and safety standards, and optimizing
workflow processes. In my current role, I have led my team to deliver excellent
customer service and exceed sales targets, resulting in a high level of customer
satisfaction and repeat business.

I am a natural leader who is adept at motivating and inspiring teams to achieve their
goals. I am an excellent communicator who can effectively convey ideas and

resources, increase motivation, and track progress towards achieving a goal.

Short term objectives


SMART objective: Become the area manager at Lidl GBby applying to the
vacancy in twoweeks.

Specific: I will to the Area Manager Vacancy at Lidl GB that I found on Linked
in the next two weeks.

Measurable: I will organise and update my CV according to my work


experience to fit role.

Achievable:with my experience Managing team, with my capacity of


motivating people, with a good communication skills and a good skill to
analyse numbers and data I will be able to take the position.

as Area Manager

days.

Achievable: By prioritising tasks and to do list it will be achievable in the next


month.

• SMART objective : Improving Leaderships skills in a year and half by
attending to online courses, forums and workshops.

Specific: I am going to improve my Leadership skills in a year and half time.

Measurable: I will accomplish this in a yar time by attending to workshops,


online courses, forums and workshops for the next year and half.

Achievable: By attending to online classes two to three times a week for a


year and half I will be able to improve my leadership skills.

Relevant: With this improvement it will help me in my management career


dealing better with team.

Time-bound: My goal is to improve my leader skills by October 2024.

SMART objectives:Enhancecommunication skills in a year by taking a public


speaking course, joining a networking group and practicing active listening.

Specific:improve my communication skills in a year.

Measurable:I will accomplish this goal by taking public speaking course,


joining to networking groupsand practicing active listening techniques.

Achievable: By attending to the public course once a week for an hour and
practicing active listening techniques I will achieve this goal.

Relevant: By enhancing my communication skills it will helping me managing


a team, to communicate and create a good environment in the work place and
being a good listening to and understand and motivate the team.

Achievable: The goal will be achieve by evaluating results of assignments and


exams taken on course.

Relevant: The course will improve my management skills and help me with
my management career, andunderstand more about business.

Time – bound: The course will be finished in July 2026

SMART Objective: Open a Thai Restaurant with a friend in the 5 years by


saving 15% to of my month salary to reach the amount necessary (£16000) in
the next to 5 years.

Specific: I am going to save 15% of my month salary to reach the amount


necessary to open a restaurant with my friend in five years

Measurable: I will set up a banking standing order to retain 15% of my wage


every month to deposit in the specific saving account.

Achievable: I will be able to save approximately £3200 a year by saving 15%


of my wage.

Relevant: By putting 15% of my total earnings on the side it will help me to


reach the total amount of over £16000, the total amount that I will need.

Time- Bound: My goal is save the minimum total of £16000 in 5 years

Definition of CPD: Continuing Professional Development refers to identifying and


taking actions to continuously improve personal and professional skills to keep one
updated on the need of the workplace and the industry (Emerson and Stewart,
2011).

CPD refers to the ongoing process of identifying and taking actions to continuously
improve personal and professional skills to remain up-to-date with the changing

workplace and industry needs. CPD aims to enhance one's knowledge and skills in a
particular field or profession to improve job performance, maintain professional
standards, and advance career opportunities. CPD can take many forms, including
attending conferences and workshops, taking courses, participating in webinars,
engaging in self-directed learning, and seeking mentorship or coaching. It is an
essential part of professional development.

Conclusion
A career development plan is an essential tool for individuals who want to take
control of their career path and achieve their professional goals. By conducting a

SWOT analysis, setting short-term, medium-term, and long-term objectives, and
identifying areas for improvement, individuals can create a roadmap to success. This
plan can help individuals focus on their strengths, overcome their weaknesses, and
identify opportunities to gain experience and advance in their career. Additionally, a
career development plan can benefit both employees and employers by providing
clear goals, promoting growth and development, and improving employee
satisfaction and retention. Overall,elaborating this report I could understand clearly
what are my professional strengths,my opportunities, my Weakness and my Threats.
This helps to know what skills I have to work on. A well-crafted career development
plan is a powerful tool for individuals who want to take charge of their careers and
achieve their professional aspirations.
