FESTIVALS IN THE PHILIPPINES

1. SINULOG FESTIVAL- CEBU


For 32 years, the Sinulog Festival is a traditional celebration in
Cebu City held every third Sunday of January to honor the
Santo Niño (Child Jesus). Basically, the festival is done by a
dance ritual, in which it tells the story of the Filipino people's
pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity. The word
“sinulog” means “like the water current,” and is actually the
name of the step that the dancers perform.
2. ATI ATIHAN FESTIVAL - AKLAN
The Ati-Atihan festival is a Philippine festival held annually in January in
honor of the Santo Niño (Holy Child or Infant Jesus) in several towns of
the province of Aklan, Panay Island. The biggest celebration is held
during the third Sunday of January in the town of Kalibo, the province's
capital. The name Ati-Atihan means "to imitate the Ati people".
3. DINAGYANG FESTIVAL- ILOILO CITY
Dinagyang Festival is one of the biggest and world-class
festivals in the Philippines. It traces the history of devotion to
the Holy Child Jesus popularly known to Filipino devotees as Sr.
Sto. Nino. The festival also commemorates the arrival of the
Malay settlers and the legendary barter of Panay Island from
the natives called called Ati.
4. PAHIYAS FESTIVAL – LUCBAN, QUEZON
The Pahiyas Festival is celebrated to give thanks to the patron
saint of farmers, San Isidro Labrador for their bountiful
harvest. During this occasion every May 15, the houses
transform into colorful abodes using their harvests and the
popular kipings. The Pahiyas Festival meaning is really to give
thanks.
5. PANAGBENGA FESTIVAL
is a month-long annual flower occasion in Baguio. The term is
of Kankanaey origin, meaning "season of blooming". The
festival, held in February, was created as a tribute to the city's
flowers and as a way to rise from the devastation of the 1990
Luzon earthquake. The festival includes floats that are covered
mostly with flowers, not unlike those used in Pasadena's Rose
Parade. The festival also includes street dancing, presented by
dancers clad in flower-inspired costumes, that is inspired by
the Bendian, an Ibaloi dance of celebration that came from
the Cordilleras.
6. LECHON FESTIVAL
Is a religious and cultural festival in Balayan,
Batangas, Philippines held every June 24. The festival is
celebrated in honor of St. John the Baptist. Numerous activities
are performed such as lechon parade, and water dousing.

7. KADAYAWAN FESTIVAL
The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts
of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and
serenity of living. Previously, this festival was held in the third
week of August every year which was highlighting the 11 tribes
of Davao City. In 2019, the celebration was extended and held
from 2 to 31 August. In 2020, Kadayawan Festival was
celebrated from 10 to 17 August.

8. MASSKARA FESTIVAL
MassKara is derived from the words “mass” meaning “many”
and “kara” meaning “faces,” thus calling it the Festival of Many
Faces. Known as the City of Smiles, Bacolod parades many
smiling masks worn by the locals during this festival in the
Philippines.

9. TUNA FESTIVAL
The Tuna Festival is an annual festival celebrated on the first
week of September. Held in the tuna capital of the Philippines,
the festival reflects what abundance means. Fun fact: The
festival has been held since 1998 and is today the city's biggest
fiesta.
10.HIGANTES FESTIVAL
The Higantes Festival is a local festival held annually In Angono,
Rizal, Philippines, where hundreds of giant papier-mâché
puppets are paraded, representing the common people's
mockery of the bad hacienda owners of the past during
Spanish colonial rule.
11.MANGO FESTIVAL
The Dinamulag Festival also known as the Zambales Mango
Festival is an annual festival held in the province of Zambales
in the Philippines to celebrate or encourage bountiful harvest
of the province's mangoes. The festival was first held in 1999.

12.BANGUS FESTIVAL
Held in Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Bangus Festival
is celebrated to give thanks to the city's thriving aquaculture,
especially in the bountiful bangus or milkfish harvests.

13.MORIONES FESTIVAL
The Moriones is a lenten festival held annually on Holy Week
on the island of Marinduque, Philippines. The "Moriones" are
men and women in costumes and masks replicating the garb of
biblical Imperial Roman soldiers as interpreted by locals.
14.IBALONG FESTIVAL
The Ibalong Festival is a non-religious festival in Legazpi City,
Albay, Philippines based on the Ibalong Epic, and is held on
August. The festival celebrates the epic story Ibalong who was
accompanied by three legendary heroes, namely Baltog,
Handyong, and Bantong.
15.T’NALAK FESTIVAL
T'nalak Festival, also known as Tinalak Festival, is a festival held
to celebrate the anniversary of South Cotabato and is observed
every July. The festival's unique name is attributed to a popular
piece of colorful cloth woven by the local T'boli women (T'boli
is a tribe in the region).
16.BAMBANTI FESTIVAL
Festival celebrating the use of bambanti or scarecrow by the
Isabelinos in their vast farmlands to protect its crops is
highlighted by an agro-industrial trade fair participated by the
34 towns and three cities of Isabela.
17.BAMBOO FESTIVAL
The festival gives honor to the Bamboo organ, enshrined in St.
Joseph Parish in Las Pinas as the only one of its kind of musical
instrument. It is a celebration of the unique music that the
organ produces, and a tribute to the community spirit that has
succeeded in preserving it.

18.HIGALAAY FESTIVAL
The Higalaay Festival is a patronal festival held each year in
Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, every 28th day of August,
celebrating the feast day of St. Augustine – patron saint of the
city.
19.PINTADOS FESTIVAL
The Pintados Festival is a cultural-religious celebration in
Tacloban based on the body-painting traditions of the ancient
tattooed "pintados" warriors. In 1986, the Pintados
Foundation, Inc. was formed by the people of Tacloban to
organize this festival in honor of Sr. Santo Niño.
20.GIANT LANTERN FESTIVAL
The Giant Lantern Festival is an annual festival held in mid-
December in the City of San Fernando in the Philippines. The
festival features a competition of giant parol lanterns. Because
of the popularity of the festival, the city has been nicknamed
the "Christmas Capital of the Philippines".
21.ALIWAN FESTIVAL
Aliwan Fiesta is an annual event that gathers different cultural
festivals of the Philippines in Star City Complex in Pasay
wherein contingents compete in dance parade and float
competitions.
22.MUSIC FESTIVALS
Music festivals are on the rise in the Philippines, with a ton of
them happening in Manila itself. Some of them are: Road
to Ultra, Threadfest Manila, Pulp Summer Slam, Wanderland
Music and Arts Festival, Hydro Manila Music Festival, Chroma,
Roots, Bazooka Rocks, and Playback.
23.BINALBAL FESTIVAL
The Binalbal Festival is an annual festival held on the first of
January in Tudela, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. It is a
unique celebration of welcoming the new year for the
townsfolk of Tudela.
24.HALAMANAN FESTIVAL
Halamanan is a festival which celebrates in their adoration for
plants, of trees, and of blossoms since these manifestations of
nature give them a decent method to bring home the bacon. It
praises the integrity gave to them by Mother Nature. This
celebration additionally commended the establishment day of
Guiguinto
25.KASADYAAN FESTIVAL
The Pintados Festival, also called the Pintados Kasadyaan
Festival, is a cultural and religious event in Tacloban based on
the traditions of the old “pintados” warriors, who used to paint
their bodies. In 1986, the people of Tacloban formed the
Pintados Foundation, Inc. They did this to celebrate in honor of
Sr.
26.BANTAYOG FESTIVAL
Bantayog Festival is celebrated in Camarines Norte every April
25th of the year. Bantayog festival features the book of
Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippines' National Hero, which is entitled
“Unang Bantayog” (First Monument). The festival is also held
in conjunction with the foundation anniversary of the
province.
27.LAYAG FESTIVAL
A week-long festivity coinciding with the feast of Our Lady of
Penafrancia. The festival name was taken from a local world
“layag· or sail boat which is a primitive means of transportation
of the early people of Rapu-Rapu. It depicts the peoole’s
journey of faith
28.CARABAW FESTIVAL
The Carabao Festival is celebrated on 14 and 15 May in honor
of San Isidro, the farmer's patron saint. During the Carabao
festival, on the afternoon of 14 May, decorated water
buffaloes are led by farmers in a long procession to the church
square whereby they kneel and receive their blessings.
29.CATANDUNGAN FESTIVAL
The Catandungan Festival is a festival held each year in Virac,
Catanduanes, Philippines, every third weekend of October
nearest October 24, which is when Catanduanes was founded
as a province, independent from Albay
30.TUGOB FESTIVAL
Tugob is a Visayan term for “abundance” and the festival is
both a celebration and thanksgiving for the region's bountiful
resources.
31.WORLD COSTUME FESTIVAL
The World Costume Festival is an international fashion festival
held every two years in the Philippines city of Vigan City in
Ilocos Sur. The event showcases indigenous and modern
costumes geared towards live performances, such as drama,
festivals, events, as well as multimedia presentations.
32.CIMARRONES FESTIVAL
The Cimarrones Festival is an annual festival in the municipality
of Pili in the Philippines. The municipal government hosts the
religious-based town fiesta in the "Pili Proper" centro district.
The festival is a celebration of the feast of San Rafael
Archangel, the patron saint of Pili.
33.SIRONG FESTIVAL
Sirong Festival is an ethnic mardi-gras parade. Although some
other municipalities in the province of Surigao del Sur are
claiming to have this festival originated from them. As most of
this coastal towns are founded during the pre-Spanish
occupation and is both claiming the story of being attacked by
the moros.
34.SANDUGO FESTIVAL
The Sandugo Festival is an annual historical celebration that
takes place every year in Tagbilaran City on the island of Bohol
in the Philippines. This festival commemorates the Treaty of
Friendship between Datu Sikatuna, a chieftain in Bohol, and
Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi.
35.GAWAGAWAY-YAN FESTIVAL
Gawagaway-yan Festival of Cauayan City is a celebration of the
city's bountiful livelihood and merriment for the ethno-
linguistic groups residing in Cauayan.
36.SINUKMANI FESTIVAL
The 'Sinukmani Festival' is a festival in Rosario, Batangas,
Philippines held every 9th of June. Local establishments are
the ones who put a long table 462 meters along with the sticky
rice pastry sweet caramel topping. Rosario is known as the
"Rice Granary of Batangas".
37.KAOGMA FESTIVAL
The Kaogma Festival marks the foundation day of Camarines
Sur in the Philippines. Former Governor Luis R Villafuerte
started this festival; he sent researchers, including Prof. Danny
Gerona, to Spain to determine the foundation day of
Camarines Sur.
38.MANTAWI FESTIVAL
The Mantawi Festival is an annual festival celebrated every on
May 7th in Mandaue City in Cebu, Philippines
39.ABACA FESTIVAL
The Abaca Festival or formally known as Catanduanes Abaka
Festival is a festival held each year in Virac, Catanduanes,
Philippines. The celebration happens every 4th week of the
month of May.
40.FLORES DE MAYO
Flores de Mayo is a festival held in the Philippines in the month
of May. It is one of the May devotions to the Blessed Virgin
Mary and lasts for the entire month. The Santacruzan is the
ritual pageant held on the last day of the Flores de Mayo
