At Fresh Laser Skin Studio we want to ensure we give you the best experience and most effective treatment possible.
To receive the best results please be aware of the following points prior to your treatment and contact us if you have
any questions.
Your Certified Laser Technician will customize the laser parameters according to your skin’s condition and comfort
level while maintaining the highest standards of safety. During treatments, the laser produces an intense, but gentle,
burst of light energy that passes through the skin and is selectively absorbed by the sebum in the sebaceous glands.
The laser energy generates heat within the sebaceous glands to down regulate sebum production, without causing
significant thermal injury to the surrounding tissue. The sensation of the laser is sometimes uncomfortable and may
feel like a slight pinprick or sensation of heat, which may last a few seconds to a few hours. Everyone in the
treatment room must wear protective eyewear to prevent permanent eye from the intense light produced by the laser.
Please note: All information and photographs are securely stored to ensure client confidentiality. All before/after
photos, require a separate photograph release consent, prior to adding to our before/after library.
Failure to comply with pre and post care recommendations may increase the probability of complications.
Pre-Treatment
• CONFIRM that you are not currently on any photosensitizing medications. Accutane must be discontinued
for at least 3 months prior to laser treatments or have written permission from prescribing doctor. Other
photosensitive medications, including antibiotics, will need to be noted on file and a consent signed stating
awareness of photosensitivity and possible side effects. Your technician will advise you of the necessary
precautions if this is applicable to you.
• AVOID skin irritants for 3-5 days before treatment – products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzyl peroxide,
glycolic/salicylic acids, vitamin C/ascorbic acid, astringents etc.
• NO suntanning or self-tanners four weeks prior to treatment – includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning
beds, unprotected sun exposure, etc.
• NOTIFY clinic with any changes to your initial medical/medication history to enable accurate updates of
your secure and confidential file.
• ENSURE you inform Fresh Laser Skin Studio if you have a history of hyperpigmentation. In this case you
may be prescribed a topical lightening cream to be applied for 2 – 4 weeks prior to treatment.
• HISTORY of herpes or cold sores may require an antiviral prescription prior to treatment.
• EXCESS hair may need to be shaved. Area needs to be cleanly shaved.
• ENSURE you apply a daily broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) mineral sunblock of SPF 50 on your face and to
other treatment areas when exposed to the sun. Reapply every 3 to 5 hours or after being in water. We
recommend Colorescience Sunforgettables Enviroscreen SPF 50 Protection, available in a Face Shield, Body
Shield and a lightweight mineral powder option. Feel free to ask us for a sample of one of these great SPF
options.
• NEUROTOXINS (Botox, Dysport or similar) or FILLERS should be administered post-treatment or a
minimum of 2 weeks prior to your treatment for neurotoxins and 4 weeks prior for fillers.
• ENSURE you have a good skin care regime to help prep your skin for the upcoming treatment. Using
medical grade skin care can create an overall healthier canvas for us to treat and give you a better outcome.
Post-Treatment
• IMMEDIATELY post-treatment, we will apply a physical (mineral) sunscreen SPF 50, which should be
applied everyday (1 –2 applications).
• APPLY cold compresses or chilled gel packs for your comfort.
• If blisters develop, please contact us and send us a photo if possible.
• NEXT morning wash face with a gentle cleanser, followed by a gentle, oil free moisturizer every day twice a
day for 3-5 days- resume regular skincare regime 3-5 days after treatment.
• ALWAYS apply mineral SPF 50 daily, starting the morning after treatment- sunscreen should be applied at
least once daily, reapplying every 2-3 hours if outside, direct sun exposure should be minimized throughout
the duration of the treatment regimen.
• AVOID direct and/or unprotected sun exposure (and tanning beds and self-tanning lotions) to reduce the
possibility of hyper or hypo pigmentation (dark or light spots). Skin that has been exposed to the sun without
any protection cannot be treated with a laser for at least 2-4 weeks, as melanin in the skin becomes
activated and increases risks for burns and pigmentation changes.
• MINERAL MAKEUP (recommended) may be applied the day after the treatment, ensuring your physical
sunscreen (SPF 50 recommended), is under your makeup.
• MOST clients will experience mild redness of the treatment area, lasting up to one day post-treatment.
• SOME clients may experience swelling of the treatment area lasting for as little as one hour or up to two
days post-treatment.
• SOME clients experience dryness and itching of the treatment area up to four weeks post-treatment.
• COMMON to experience post-inflammatory flareups after one or after all their treatments-condition may
worsen before it improves.
• AVOID heat (hot tubs, saunas, etc.) for 1-2 days post-treatment.
• LIMIT any exercise or activity that could cause excess heat or sweating for 24 hours post-treatment.
• AVOID skin irritants for 3-5 days after treatment- products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzyl peroxide,
glycolic/salicylic acids, vitamin C/ascorbic acid, astringents etc.
• AVOID treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks after treatment – such as waxing, dipilatories, etc.
• CONTACT us with any concerns such as blistering, excessive or prolonged redness/swelling, etc.
Please contact us via email ([email protected]) or phone (403-264-4494) with any questions or concerns you may have after your
treatment.
Potential and common side effects that may occur with the AviClear laser treatments:
• DISCOMFORT: Mild to moderate discomfort is typical during treatment. The treatment settings may be
adjusted according to skin reactions and comfort levels, during the AviClear treatment.
• ERYTHEMA (redness) and EDEMA (swelling): Mild to significant erythema and mild to moderate edema
developing during or within several minutes of treatment are expected treatment side effects. Erythema
typically resoves within 20 minutes to several hours, and edema typically resolves within several hours to a
day; however, both can last for several days. Application of cold packs after treatment may reduce the
severity and duration of both.

Pre & Post Treatment Information
Continued
• TRANSIENT ACNE FLAREUPS: Mild flareups of inflammatory acne lesions are common after
treatment. Flareups have been reported by up to 50% of the people that had moderate to severe
inflammatory acne vulgaris prior to treatment. If acne flareups occur, they typically appear 7 days to a few
weeks after treatment; however, acne flareups can continue at perceptible levels for several more weeks.
• TEMPORARY SKIN DRYNESS: Temporary mild skin dryness is common after treatment. If skin
dryness occurs, it is normally noticed 1-2 days after treatment and typically resolves in a few days to 2
weeks with application of a recommended skin moisturizer; however, it can persist up to 4 weeks.
• BLISTERS: Mild to moderate blisters developing during or within several hours of treatment are
uncommon but have been reported. If blisters do develop, care should be taken not to disturb or unroof the
blisters to prevent oozing and possible infection. Oozing from blisters that are disturbed or unroofed lasting
more than a day should be evaluated by our clinic.
• CRUSTING/SCABBING: Mild crusting or scabbing is rare but has been reported as typically following
blistering. If crusting or scabbing occurs, the crusts/scabs should be allowed to naturally slough, without
picking, to minimize the likelihood of skin pigmentation changes or infection.
• COINCIDENTAL HAIR REMOVAL: Although not seen in the clinical studies, treatment of hair-bearing
skin with infrared lasers to heat the pilosebaceous unit may result in undesired or uneven temporary or
permanent hair loss in the treatment area. There is a possibility of coincidental hair removal when treating
pigmented or vascular lesions in hair-bearing areas
• TRANSIENT TEXTURE CHANGES: Skin texture changes are rare and usually resolve with time, if they
do occur.
• HYPERPIGMENTATION (darker changes in skin colour): Brown darkening of the skin can occur either
following blistering or crusting or because of inflammation during the recovery period. If it occurs, it may
last for one to several months before normal pigmentation levels return. Hyperpigmentation is very rarely
permanent. A skin-lightening product may be recommended to accelerate the return to normal pigmentation
levels.
• HYPOPIGMENTATION (lightening or loss of pigmentation): Lightening or loss of skin pigment is very
rare. Transient hypopigmentation lasting several weeks has been reported following crusting/scabbing.
Permanent hypopigmentation has not been reported; however, it is a possible adverse event, especially in
clients with a history of vitiligo or pigmentary disorders.
• INFECTION: Despite good wound care, pain, swelling, oozing and fever can indicate the development of
an infection. This is rare, though it can occur. Topical and/or oral antibiotics may be necessary. - Infection
is a possibility whenever the skin surface is disrupted, although proper wound care should prevent infection.
If signs of infection develop, please seek medical attention, and notify our clinic.
• SCARRING: Scarring is a rare occurrence, but it is a possibility whenever the skin's surface is disrupted, by
picking or other. To minimize the chances of scarring, it is IMPORTANT that you follow all post-treatment
instructions provided by your technician and available on our website.
• SUN EXPOSURE / TANNING BEDS / ARTIFICIAL TANNING - May increase risk of side effects and
adverse reactions.
• EYE EXPOSURE: Protective eyewear or metal shields will be provided to you during the treatment.
Failure to wear eye protection during the entire treatment may cause severe and permanent eye damage.
• PRE & POST CARE - Failure to comply with pre- and post-care instructions may increase the probability
of complications. Please check our website www.freshlaser.ca or call 403-264-4494 or email:
[email protected] if you have any questions.
