COAL TAR EPOXY PROTECTIVE COATING

This statement is prepared in order to assist the end users in the preparation and
CMCI application of TARCOAT BG, a solvent-free, two component, high build, amine cured,
coal tar modified epoxy coating suitable for underground structures like foundations.
The performance and procedural information regarding TARCOAT BG is accurate and
we will use our best efforts to keep it up.
A. Product
TARCOAT BG
CEMTEC R44 (concrete repair epoxy gel)
CEMTEC SOLVENT / xylene (cleaning agent)
B. Application Tools & Equipment
1. Drill fitted with mixing prop 2. Roller / Brush / Squeegee / Airless Spray
C. Product Delivery & Storage
Deliver materials to jobsite in sealed, undamaged containers. Each container shall
be identified with material name, dates of manufacture / expiry. Store epoxies in an
air-conditioned room for longer pot life. Mixed epoxies (resin and hardener) reaction
is exothermic in nature; therefore temperature is a factor on product pot life.
D. Surface Preparation
1. Old concrete should be clean and well textured; all dirt, oil, debris, paint and
unsound concrete must be removed.
2. New concrete must be fully cured (28 days) and must possess an open, porous
and well-textured surface with all sealers and curing compounds removed.
Surface should be clean and free from grease, dust, unsound concrete, etc.
3. Repair small surface imperfections (blowholes, hairline cracks, voids) using
CEMTEC R44 epoxy gel. Mix the appropriate amounts of part A and part B of the
epoxy and apply over the concrete surface via skim-coating using a scraper or
steel trowel. Allow the epoxy to cure for at least 2 hours (@ 40degC) prior to
application of the coal tar epoxy. For larger concrete imperfections, we
recommend the use of REPCON S (see separate data sheet for this material).
4. Surface should be completely dry prior to application of the coating.
E. Product Application
1. Mix part A (resin) and part B (hardener) using a mixer for about 2 to 3 minutes or
until a uniform consistency is achieved.
2. If necessary (if less viscosity is desired), 2 – 5% CEMTEC SOLVENT or xylene
can be added to the mixture. Pot life is 2 hours @ 25degC.
3. Apply the mixed material by roller, brush or airless spray in two coats, targeting a
thickness of 200 - 300 microns per coat (400 – 600 microns for two coats); allow
the first coat to cure overnight prior to application of the second coat.
4. Allow the coating to fully cure for at least 14 days before backfilling the substrate.
