1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Method Statement is to ensure that the sequence and quality of deep excavation works
involved in the project using excavating machinery in accordance with applicable contractor specifications.

2. SCOPE

This Method Statement applies to the deep excavation work for the specific Effluent and Clarifier tanks at
Zuluf Water Treatment Plant (C- 4200079656) and shall be conforming to the applicable standards. The
detailed specification for the activity will be as per WT2201-FIT-CW-TSP-A00-0002 Earthworks and Soil
Improvement (TS).

The various general descriptions for the activities associated with deep excavation as follows:

- Survey and setting out.

- Deep Excavation in soil or rocky soil or rock strata

4. MANPOWER & EQUIPMENT:

4.1 Manpower
The following manpower (Approximate) is required as a minimum for the execution of deep excavation
works. However, the amount of manpower and equipment shall be reviewed separately depends on the size
and criticality of the excavation works.

5. ORGANIZATION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER shall be responsible planning and arranging the resources of plant & equipment
and manpower etc. needed for the execution of works. Prepare the plans and schedule to meet the project target
milestones in liaison with planning engineer.

QC MANAGER shall be responsible for implementation of inspection activities as per specification and quality
control plan. Ensure the quality records are being maintained by QC Engineer/Inspector and collate records as
per the approved quality control plan. Follow up for non-conformities are closed outby the construction
engineers.

CIVIL ENGINEER/SUPERVISOR shall be responsible for carrying out all the activities including but not limited to
ensure the surveying and setting out is done as per the IFC drawings and works are carried out as per project
specification requirement, coordination with the contractor in day to day works, obtaining the work permits
whenever required and ensure the site HSE regulations are followed, organize all necessary resources are
available for execution of works to meet schedule.

QC ENGINEER / QC INSPECTOR shall be responsible for coordinate with civil engineer & contractor’s QC and
ensure the stage wise inspection were carried out and necessary inspection and test plan are made and signed
by all the concern personnel as per the approved Quality control plan surveillance of all related works executed
in his allocated area and report any non-conformance or areas for implementation to site QC manager

HSE SUPERVISOR Provide/arrange necessary PPE. Review Risk Assessment for the activity prepared by work
group and recommend safe work method to carry out the work safely. Ensure that all works are carried out in a
safe manner by coordinating with site engineers and foreman’s and to orient the workers on safety requirements
of project. Monitor & inspect the site on a daily basis and provide advice and instructions to improve EHS
standard in the workplace. Review method statement (MS) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and ensure that all
environmental hazards have been identified and addressed in the MS and JHA.

6. WORK PROCEDURE

6.1 Preliminary Work

- Permit to work shall be obtained from the contractor authorized personnel prior to start the
excavation work. Before starting of excavation work, dimension shall be marked on the ground as
shown on drawing.

- Location and excavation levels shall be checked and shall comply with the approved drawing.
Prior to start the work a topographical survey will be under taken of all construction area.

- The drawings are available at site is approved and as per latest revision.

- The area will be set out as shown on the approved shop drawing with total station and the area to
be excavated will be marked on natural ground with lime. The setting out of the excavation shall
be inspected by the Contractor prior to commencing of the excavation works. Wherever there is
required.

6.2 Deep Excavation

- Excavation shall be carried out as per marking drawn on the ground and mentioned in IFC
drawings.

- Any loose soil or large size stones over hanging on the sides of the excavated pit shall be
removed to avoid falling during the construction activities.

- Stability of slope of excavation to be inspected regularly during the excavation to make sure safe
to work.

- For safety reasons both Benching & battering of excavation wall may be used to minimize the risk
of soil or rock slipping into the excavation.

- No unauthorized persons should enter in the excavation zone and no movement of persons
allowed in the machineries swing zone.

- Surveyor to check the required depth of level in due course of interval to ensure the same and
checklist will be signed by site engineer.

- If any over-excavation has been done, then as approved by Contractor selected material will be
backfilled and compacted up to required level.

- Excavated soils shall be dumped at contractor allocated dumping yard. Excavated soils should
not be placed within edge of excavation or as per excavation permit condition.

- An earthen ramp will be made with suitable slope for access of equipment and men.

- After the completion of excavation, the permit shall be signed off by Contractor engineer and
issuing authority to ensure completion of all activities.

7. HSE REQUIREMENTS

- Confined space certificate shall be obtained before request by excavation permit, (If required).

- To avoid collapse, batter/benching /slopping the side and edge to a safe angle.

- Ensure that safe means of access provided for personnel and equipment.

- Deep Excavation board “KEEP AWAY”.

- All warning sign board shall be arranged prior to work and positioned at the location.

- Risk assessment conducted and to be approved.

- Do not allow any vehicle or plant near an edge of an excavation that may be likely to cause
collapse.

- Provided hard barricading or earthen bund of 1.5m width and 1m height Shall be made for
excavation pit.

- Night Illumination (If required)

- Soil removal safety (Extreme care shall be taken while removing soil from the deep excavation,
safe distance to be maintained form the excavation edge).
