Directions: Fill in the answer to the questions posed below. Attach the specified
printouts where indicated and upload the project in Canvas on or before the due date at
midnight. Please give specific interpretations as generic answers will not receive
full credit.
1. Use Statistix to compare the mean sizes/mileages for levels 1 and 3 of your qualitative variable.
In Statistix, you will need to omit all level 2 observations in your data set to create this printout.
Conduct the printout for a two-tailed test in Statistix. Attach the printout here and answer the
following questions.
Model N Mean SD SE
1 25 41840 25638 5127.6
3 25 54240 27428 5485.5
Difference -12400 26548 7508.9
Homogeneity of Variances DF F P
Folded F Test 24,24 1.14 0.3718
a. State the appropriate hypotheses that you wish to test to conduct a two-tailed test to
compare the population means. (2 points)
Ho: μ1−μ2 =0
Ha: μ1−μ2 ≠ 0
b. Suppose you wanted to conduct a one-tailed test of hypothesis to compare the two
population means. What would the appropriate p-value be to use when making the
conclusion? (2 points)
Since the p value is not low, we would look at the T= -1.65 and p = 0.1052
The values for equal and not equal are the same for T and p
c. State the conclusion you would make for this test. Use choose alpha. (2 points)
The null hypothesis is not rejected. Therefore T= -1.65 and p= 0.1052. With a 95%
confidence interval
2. Use Statistix to compare the variance of the prices for levels 1 and 3 of your qualitative
variable. In Statistix, you will need to omit all level 2 observations in your data set to create this
printout. Conduct the printout for a two-tailed test in Statistix. Attach the printout here and
answer the following questions.
Two-Sample T Tests for Price by Model
Model N Mean SD SE
1 25 26318 4714.5 942.90
3 25 23398 4481.4 896.29
Difference 2920.0 4599.5 1300.9
Homogeneity of Variances DF F P
Folded F Test 24,24 1.11 0.4029
a. State the appropriate hypotheses that you wish to test to conduct a two-tailed test to
compare the population variances. (2 points)
Ho: σ 21=σ 22
Ha: σ 21 ≠ σ 22
b. Identify the test statistic and p-value that you would use to conduct this test (2 points)
c. State the conclusion you would make for this test when testing at alpha = .10. (2 points)
The p value is greater than 0.10 therefore at 0.10 significance level, we can conclude that the
population variances are equal.
3. It was desired to compare the proportion of males and females that had a tattoo. I entered the
data into Statistix and created the following printout.
Sample
Size Successes Proportion
Sample 1 172 33 0.19186
Sample 2 108 46 0.42593
Difference -0.23407
Null Hypothesis: p1 = p2
Alternative Hyp: p1 ≠ p2
SE (difference) 0.05525
Z (uncorrected) -4.24 P 0.0000
a. Use the confidence interval to make a statement about the relationship between these two
proportions (in the words of the problem)? Make sure to include your reliability level in
your answer. (2 points)
Zero is not contained in the interval (-0.32661, -0.14152), therefore the null hypothesis is
rejected. There is enough evidence to conclude there is a significant difference in the
proportions. 90% confident
b. State the rejection region you would use if you wanted to conduct a two-tailed test of
hypothesis. You select a value for alpha. (2 points)
The p value will not be a positive value. The 90% confidence interval shows the region (0.32661,
-0.14152).
c. What sample size criteria was used to determine that this is a large sample problem.
Simply state the criteria used, you don’t need to show the math. (2 points)
The sample should be randomly selected and should not exceed 10% of the population. The two
groups should be independent of each other, and they should both have at least 10 successes and
10 failures.
