Method Statement for painting of Steel Substrate
C3 Environment, Very High Durability (> 25 years)

Surface Preparation:
GENERAL
All surfaces should be clean dry and free from contamination. The surfaces should be assessed
and treated in accordance with ISO 8504. Oil or grease should be removed in accordance with
SSPC – SP1 Solvent cleaning.
Abrasives Blast Cleaning
For optimum performance, abrasive blast clean to SA 2.5 (ISO 8501-01) or SSPC-SP 10 with a
surface profile of 50-75 microns (2-3 mils). If the oxidation has occurred between the blasting
and application of this product, the surface should be re-blasted to the specified visual
standards. Surface defects revealed by the blast cleaning process should be ground, filled
treated in an appropriate manner.
Hand or Power tool cleaning
Hand or power tool clean to a minimum St2 (ISO 8501-01) or SSPC-SP2. Note, all scale must be
removed and area where cannot be prepared adequately by needle of chipping gun should be
spot blasted to a minimum standard of SA 2 (ISO 8501-01) or SSPC-SP6
Concrete Substrate
New concrete shall be properly cured prior to coating application. All surfaces should be cleaned
and free from laitance, curing compounds, release agents, efflorescence, grease, oil, dirt, organic
growth, old coatings and loose or disintegrating concrete. Surface should be cleaned in
accordance to SSPC-SP 13. NACE NO 06.
Non – Ferrous Surfaces
Ensure surface is clean, dry and free from metal corrosion products. For optimum performance
brush blast to SA 1 (ISO 8501-01) or SSPC-SP7 abrade using coarse emery paper following
treatment as above.
Galvanized surfaces
Degrease to SSPC – SP1 and remove any white zinc corrosion products by hand abrasion
cleaning.

Apply Primer in all the welding area and sharp edges by brush, before apply the primer coat.
This application process is highly recommended enhance the anticorrosive and barrier
properties.
Note: Coating performance is proportional to the degree of surface preparation.

Coating System:
Primer Coat : 1 coat of HI-PON 20-03 Epoxy Red Oxide Primer (DFT: 80 µm)
Intermediate Coat: 1 coat of HI-PON 30-03 Epoxy Midcoat 80 (DFT: 110 µm)
Top Coat : 1 coat of HI-PON 50-01 Polyurethane Top Coat (DFT: 50 µm)

Total Dry Film Coating Thickness (DFT) > 240 microns
